maybe you could explain a bit about why it is important to be hydrated before a session?

HI Juni! Hydration in the tissues allows the electric current to flow swiftly and easily into the follicle tissue, enabling us to use the least amount of current necessary to destroy that tissue, which in turn makes it much less uncomfortable for you. If your tissues are dry, it's like trying to strike lightning through something insulated... it doesn't work well! That then makes the process more painful (dry skin) because we have to use a higher intensity of current to get the follicle tissue destroyed. Hope this makes sense! You want that maximum moisture to act as a conductor for the electricity, and that will make for an easier and more comfortable treatment. :)

Is it important to exfoliate before/after? How long should the hair be? Have you ever worked on KP skin? (Keratosis Pilaris) I have it terribly all over my body and hair is almost impossible to manage. Shaving is the worst, waxing is decent but not long lasting and I'm still very prone to ingrown hairs, just not to the extent of shaving. I need help! Battling both KP and hair is impossible 😢

Can u use numbing cream? It's a hot needle going into the hairfollicle. It hurts.

I highly recommend numbing cream on certain areas, but to be honest, many areas don't require it at all, and with new epilators, most of our clients say it's way less painful than they were even expecting. Most common areas for numbing cream are upper lip, underarms and the deep bikini area. Be well! nicole

I went in for an ingrown hair removal in my underarm and the electrologist did a small section after and it. was. So. Painful. She said she doesn’t use numbing creams, could I buy some myself and put it on before my appointment??

Hi Melissa! I'm curious what type of setting your electrologist used, what type of machine she/he has, etc. But as to underarms, I definitely find it (from my own experience with them on myself as well as countless clients) that they are uncomfortable without numbing cream. When I had mine done, using numbing cream made it a breeze! But in the state of California at least, you must apply your own numbing cream, legally we are not allowed to put it on you. That said, get yourself a 5% lidocaine or better a compounded topical anesthetic formula, and you should be good! You'll LOVE having those underarms clear forever, if it's what you'd like to do :). Hope this helps! nicole

When my electrologist was working on my thick chin hairs with flash thermolysis- im assuming, I Was told that I have oily sebaceous glands when she was removing the hairs. I ended up getting burned. I am wondering if the high power combined with the oily sebaceous glands had anything to do with the burns? In that case is moisturizing necessary if you have oily sebaceous glands- does it make it worse?

Those are oil glands they are supposed to be “oily” so that comment doesn’t justify you being “burned”. That individual should’ve lowered the current instead of making up a fictitious reason about an oil gland when the sole function of the gland is to produce oil called sebum. Being properly and adequately hydrated before, during and after treatment can prevent “burns”. I was advised to make sure I was hydrated in the days leading to my appointment as well as the day of treatment.
