i know it’s faster and easier to just do laser on your body but personally i think i’d rather take the time and just do my legs, arms, bikini, and armpits through electrolysis because i’d rather get it removed forever then having to do it forever
@@lalaland2751it actually costs more to do laser on the legs than electrolysis! The doctor I used to do laser hair removal with said one session of laser for the legs costs $600. My electrologist charges based on time. So a 1-hour session of electrology costs $90. So in the end, 1 session of laser hair removal is worth more than six 1-hour electrology sessions! Plus laser is not permanent, so you'd end up doing more treatments and paying more than if you do electrolysis.
Heyho, I'd just like to give my two cents from my experience. Being properly hydrated an moisturized before the treatment seems to help a great deal aswell. I now usually drink about a gallon of water on my way to the appointment and apply aloe beforehand. My electrologist gets the hairs on the first "zap" and rarely needs to use her tweezers since the hairs just slide out with the probe. It's been really fast and painless these recent sessions.
You must have super thin roots! Im doing the chin and neck area for about 2 years and I have the same pattern as Melis and there's still a bunch of thick rooted bastards. But I drink mineral water beforehand (i didn't know hydration works) and the lady doing me was asking me they're sliding out quickly
Had electrolysis done successfully on my chin, upper lip, armpits, stomach, nipple area and just started my leg journey (starting with lower legs) to also help getting rid of my strawberry skin that has been bothering me my whole life. The pain is real but it's somewhat tolerable. Armpits where next level. Impossible without numbing cream. My first electrologist was a newbie so I had no success. I changed to another more experienced one and it made a difference after the very first session! I'd say the face takes the longest. I only had few hairs but it took more than 3 years to get rid of them. Still one or two tenacious ones left. Underarms were easy (6-8 clearings until gone). With each appointment, less and less hair needs to be treated, therefore sessions get shorter and shorter. Legs are a whole different story. They'll take long, maybe 18-24 months of consistent sessions. Electrolysis is slow, takes time, commitment and costs a lot of money. Don't expect immediate results. But since I'm into removal and not reduction and 2/3 of the hair on my thighs is thin and blond, electrolysis is the only option. Trust me, your patience will be rewarded with glorious skin.
I have a scientific background and I have researched these methods in detail for my daughter. Thank you Melis for an excellent video for girls out there. It feels genuine, and not a sales pitch. Electrolysis is the only definitive way forward, and some laser therapies such as Alexandrite can stimulate the hair and aggravate the situation in young ladies, and this video clearly recommends the best way forward on the face to really only be electrolysis. Brilliant video. Keep us updated as the technology evolves and as your experience widens. Thank you Melis once again.
Thank you! While watching your videos I am starting to suspect PCOS within myself. Oh god the hormonal and body hair struggle I have. I’ve been to the doctor several times about it, PCOS have never been mentioned. I’m going to remember. I’ve tried shaving, waxing, sugaring, threading, laser, chemical hair removal. Nothing has helped, only made it worse. It’s definitely made me more conscious about myself and my body and hair.
Biggest tip from my Electrolysist- WITCH HAZEL. She applies it during the treatment with a cotton ball and I use it every day between sessions. Bikini line is very painful- in my personal experience- so I apply 4% lidocaine (over the counter) 1 hour and again 30 mins before treatment. I will be trying a new Rx only numbing cream from my doctor- I hope it helps to numb even more so than the lidocaine.
I have been having blend electrolysis. But due to distance, I was unable to attend as frequently as I needed to, and after a year, i feel that there is no improvement to my chin or jawline. But.my.upper lip it has worked brilliant. Just had my first session with a new practitioner( both sets were registered with institute if electrologists). This new one suggested we try diathermy. I felt the discomfort was similar to blend. Tolerable for about 30mins. My skin reaction is stronger after today's treatment, then it was with the blend . I didn't feel as many hairs were snapping off, or tugging , with todays treatment, and as it us closer to where I stay, I will be able to go every 2-3 weeks with ease, so I'm.feeling positive .
Thank you for all your videos! It makes me very hopeful that I can get rid of my facial hair one day. How much do you think you've spent altogether on facial electrolysis? I know you said treatment length is variable between people, but I would love to get a sense of how much I need to save to get a good headstart on it.
Thanks for all the info , you also did your research. Your are gorgeous 😊. Looking foward to your updates . Love your dertermination sweetie. GRRRREAT VIDEO 👍👍👍👍.
Hi Melis! What do I do with the white heads/pimples that appear after? Just had my first session. Thank you in advance girl, love your videos and personality!!
I’ve had laser and electrolysis.Laser is great for clearing dark hair but it’s no good for grey hairs.I’ve probably had about a hundred hours of electrolysis.A two hour session was my limit.I couldn’t tolerate any longer than that.
Thank you very much melis for these information. I will subscribe your channel ❤️. I was wondering if I had never removed my hair, would I need more than one session? As in my stomach, face and thigh, its fair and I had never removed it. And as you mentioned in the video, electrolysis will damage the hair follicles, so if the all unwanted hair is exposed and damaged by electrolysis, do they need more than one session? If yes, can you explain why ??
What are your thoughts on just zapping the hairs and leaving them to fall out on their own? Would they fall out soon enough before the following treatment or are untweezed treated hairs stubborn enough to stay?
Since we cannot apply any products to the area for 24 hours after the treatment, should we apply spf prior? Or does the skin need to be completely bare? Can we wear moisturizer and serum before our appointment?
I went to beauty saloon in Istanbul.I wanted to have done electrolysis on my upper lips, chin and nipple area. But when my roots of hair not get damaged enough to loose hair ,my hairs grew back so longer and thicker. It was like stimulating.Did you experience it too?Why is that so?I have gone there 2,5 years but not my all hairs gone. And it didn't work on my upper lip at all.Sorry for my poor English Did they give low dose of electricity to my hairs? Can you reply? please 🙏
Im going to tattoo all my right arm but I have a lot of hair and when I say a lot I mean a LOT of hair and I dont want to shave my arm every week (my hair grows super fast). Is this a solution to my "problem" or is tattooing on top of this area wrong?
I'm gonna going to start electrolysis treatment because I'm scared of new hair follicles emerging cause of laser, but I know it's soooo painful. I watched another video on a woman with pcos and hirituism and she takes Advil and numbing cream an hour before her appointment each time just to reduce the pain a bit
Thank you so much for this It was very informative Would you recommend using a numbing cream before the appointment to help with the pain during the treatment?
I had very bad pigmentation at first until my therapist changed to the blend. It was depressing, but it's better. Vitamin C based fruits and supplements helped a lot.
Hi Melis, where I am from, there is just one electrologist. I do feel hair being plucked at times, sometimes I don't. I brought it up and she said it is natural to feel so in the first few sessions. I just have had 1 session for two areas. Is this normal? She is using thermolysis, and settings are 0.8 seconds, she says it is strong setting. What else should I find out about my settings? Her machine is called Apilus Junior.

Thank you for your video! As usually very informative and interesting. Are you doing electrolysis to others? Or have you got a someone who doing good electrolysis? Thank you
Hi Melis, Thank you for the information. I plan to get my electrolysis treatment next month for my under lip and chin area. What I want to know is, could I wash my face right after the treatment. To be more specific, could I wash my chin area with water when I take a shower? Thanks.
I am sitting here with my numbing creme on getting ready for my second appt. On my chin and neck....I have hormone issues....I suppose I could keep it under control with tweezers....but I have a fear which is: as a hospice nurse, I have seen ladies who are actively dying...and they cannot of course remove those hairs....the last thing I want is to look like a wolf as I laying dying....I know this may sound silly....but there it is. PS...As a nurse I would like to say please do keep your teeth fresh and the others areas to be treated..:))
Great video I have PCOS and I've been looking for electrolysis in my area and this gave me some great ideas for questions to ask. Btw If I waited 4 weeks I'd have a full beard hell if I waited a few days I'd have a beard, does it have to be that long?
They will typically tell you to wait two days without shaving. As long as they are able to see the hair under the magnifying glass and pull it then you're fine. Around 1/8 of an inch.
I don’t have a lot a lot of chin neck hair but it’s enough that I have to pluck everyday so I am skipping laser and going straight to electrolysis. I have my appt end of month. I’m excited for it. I hate having pcos 😔
@@pokaemon4153 hi! I have been doing electrolysis since March. I try to go once a week but if I don’t, I go biweekly. My hair is very sparse now and grows in a little bit slower but it’s still definitely there but not as bad as before I can definitely see a difference. I’m going to continue going
@@lyds_13 hi thanks a lot for your reply. Sorry for a late response I didn’t get notified about your comment. Just a last question if you don’t mind, I am very scared of getting pitting scars from electrolysis as I saw a lot of people online complaining about it. Is it real that it certainly happens or how does you skin react after your sessions? Thanks
@@pokaemon4153 hi I think it may depend on your Electrologist like their technique I’m Honestly not sure. I am pretty fair and right after my appt my skin is red and bumpy so later that day I apply witch hazel then a triple antibiotic ointment then the following day I apply hydrocortisone cream and I’m good. But the only scars I have is from when I used to pluck but they are fading. Also wear spf
What about men?, there’s places on my body I’m trying to get rid of and I’m still seeing it and I’m freaking out, I’ve been doing it since 2021, I need help I’m scared
Hey Melis! Can you please do a video on at home laser devices (IPL) like the Kenzzi and Philips Lumea Prestige? whats the different between at home laser devices and laser machines at a professional salon? why do at home devices promise permanent hair removal of fine dark hairs on fair skin while laser machines at the salon doesnt?
Hi! I just wanted to say that I have the kenzzi and used it for months! It worked well on my upper lip, arms, legs, and underarms(but not completely, just lessened it in these places) but did nothing for my chin. Again, no hair is gone permanently but especially on my arms and legs the hair is less and not as noticeable if I don’t shave for a few days. But if your chin is an issue for you, kenzzi didn’t do anything there for me since it’s hormonal I believe. I’m looking into electrolysis for that now :))
I know this comment is old, but I'm going to share this for anyone who reads it: I used the Philips Lumea Prestige on my legs, armpits and bikini area. In all areas, my hair growth got significantly worse. Much longer, darker and thicker hairs appeared and I have been dealing with them even since. I basically spent hundreds of euros on making my problems worse. Would not recommend it AT ALL! If you are set on trying it, please just do a very small area for a couple of months/half a year to make sure you are not getting yourself into this nightmare.
Hi Melis! I suffer from the same issues as you, as I also have PCOS. I was wondering how long it took you to see results from electrolysis? I appreciate your helpful information with these videos!
Hi! I personally saw a difference after 3 months where I felt comfortable in my skin. But the real results started around 2 years into it! That's when my sessions went from 30mins to 15mins as there was less hair. Hope that makes sense
@@melisatesbel Hi melis ❤️ If i had never remove my hair, do i need more than one session? As on my belly, face and thigh, it's fair and I had never remove it. And as you have said in the video that electrolysis will damage the hair follicle, so if all the unwanted hair are exposed and once are damaged, do i need more than one session? If yes can you explain for me, why????
It depends on how much hair you have and how fast the electrologist is. It can vary between 30-60mins sometimes longer. Some people don't get all of it removed in one session and just get treatments done once a week
Hi Melis, thanks for your videos, very informative. One question though: Can I tweeze in other areas of my face which are not treated with electrolysis? For example if I start electrolysis on my neck / chin /cheeks - can I still thread my upper lip?
Hi Melis...need your advice.. I never ever had facial hair ..only last year I waxed my face...idk why...and follicles go stimulated and now i have hair... but the thing is i got facial hair only on that part where i waxed...i didnot waxed my chin so didnt get it there. Plus after few months of waxing my periods became irregular...but still even assuming I have pcod ...i still didnt get hair on my chin or anywhere else where i did not waxed ... pls suggest should i go for electrolysis.? will it be permanent in my case as i dont think hormones are affecting my face??
Hi, I recommend electrolysis to get rid of the facial hair that came back thicker. It is permanent unless your hormones are imbalanced like mine (in this case, you need to maintain the results). You can go to the doctors to check if your hormones are imbalanced or not.
How does pricing work? Is it priced by the size of the area or by the length of time for the session? For example, does a 60-minute session for the lower legs cost as much as 60-minute session for the chin? Or would it cost more since it's a larger area?
what is your opinion on using at home laser hair removal like the Kennzie? does it actually work for long-term hair removal or does it only work while you're using it?
Due to shaving hair is stimulated and you get more hair on your facial area and laser only makes hair thinner, finer and reduce hair growth hair may grow after 3,6 months or sometimes after year... I have been doing for 2.5 years done my 15 sessions but didn't get a better result.... I regret of doing laser I wish I would know about electrolysis earlier although it's painful but it's only the one way to get rid of unwanted hair
Hello, I also have PCOS and was wondering although you didn't have a good experience with laser hair removal on your face, how was it on your body and are you currently still doing laser hair removal for your body ? Thank you !! :)
It works. Long & expensive process but trust me with PCOS do not laser your face.. with PCOS it’s hormonal hair and you’ve a high risk of making facial hair worse
love your videos , ive just had my second session of electrolysis on my chin and the fact that you said i shouldnt feel tugging or the hair being plucked makes me nervous because i feel it being pulled... what should i do??
Hi Melis, thank you for sharing this video. I do have a question, I'm 14 years old (My birthday doesn't come until December) and I'm VERY hairy. I'm fully brown ( both Arab and Pakistani) and quite pale. Since my hairs are so thick and dark, and my skin is so pale and dry, the areas after waxing appear green and off. I have tried EVERYTHING (everything is an understatement) but believe me when I say NOTHING, and I mean nothing worked. I'm so sick and tired of my body hair, and I really want a permanent solution. Do you think this will work for someone like me?
i have had electrolysis on my chin in the past and it was so effective. I get top ups maybe once or twice a year now. I've had laser for my upper lip area and the hair is less noticeable but still grows back so I have to get laser top ups often.
Hello, I have been to 3 sessions (45 each) so far (only chin area) and now after 2 weeks since the last session my hair is growing back and I don't see much improvement at all. I was kind of giving up on it, since I thought with such a small area it'd be a matter of maybe 6 sessions and I thought I would've already seen some improvement by now :( so do you think it's still too early to tell? (I also have PCOS and high testosterone, for which I've started taking BC last month again)
Tereza Přibáňová For some people it can take 1-2 years. You need to be very patient with electrolysis. I’ve been getting it done for 3 years. The results are amazing but just takes long. People with pcos may always need to have sessions a couple times a year post results because you grow new hairs due to hormone imbalance
I love electrolysis! However, people who want to get it should be consistent and not become lazy with appointments. Also, the person should have a solid skincare routine and not neglect their skin
@@chinnichinni1050 hey! I first use my cleanser then apply rose water to calm the area. After that I use Avene Cicalfate (which is a restorative cream) twice a day. If acne occurs (its ok and normal especially if ur skin is not used to electrolysis) use an acne treatment at night. Be consistent to see results and keep the area clean (dont touch it with your fingers or bacteria will accumulate and cause more acne). I hope this helps❤❤❤
This sounds like a option for me. However I'm concerned with the cost. My question is you stated to leave the hair alone between sessions but I have alot of facial hair, chin, neck, and my cheeks. It's thick and coarse. I would really feel uncomfortable going out side like that. What are my options?
My skin therapist has said that shaving or cutting in between sessions is also acceptable. As long as you don't remove the hair from it's socket, because then you interfere with the process.
I have severe cystic acne and hirutism it has affected my confidence so much I am almost slipping into depression what do you recommend electrolysis first approach or Accutane for acne first approach and how long should one wait starting electrolysis after Accutane??
Accutane first to clear up the cystic acne and then after the course is finished, you must wait 6 months to start electrolysis as your skin may still be sensitive. Even after 6 months, care mist be taken. I hope this helps!
So I have hair on cheeks, upper lip, chin, and neck. Is it possible to remove all the hair in those areas in one session instead of doing patches? Also, is there any numbing cream used to help reduce the pain of the probe?
Yep you can do it all in one session. I personally have never been offered numbing cream as a client and have never worked in a salon that provide it. But there possibly are salons that do
I don’t know where in the world you live but here in the UAE I can get Emla 5% cream over the counter. It helps me a lot with numbing before treatment. Upper lip for my is definitely the most painful area so I concentrate it on there, 15 minutes before my treatment.
Trans woman here. I've been weighing laser vs. IPL vs. electrolysis for my face, which is the highest priority area for me right now. I get wicked dysphoria from seeing a five o'clock shadow on my face. No matter how close I shave, it still shows up. I've tried an IPL device for close to a year but the shadow still shows up no matter what. And I've been on HRT for almost five months now.
Hi, I'm a trans woman from Australia, I've been getting galvanic electrolysis in combination with waxing on my face. Recently I've begun DMK alkali treatment as well. Laser, ipl, thermolysis and the combination of galvanic/thermolysis are not as effective for permanent hair removal and can lead to extreme collagen degradation especially on the face something us transwomen really don't need. If all you can afford is waxing then that's better than laser therapy.✌😃👍🇦🇺
@@matildastanford7019 That contradicts the information given in this video... Waxing while doing electrolysis is discourraged as it stimulates the hair growth and will sabotage the purpose of the electrolysis, as I understand it. Also, every body is different. I for example react terrible to waxing. It only stimulates my hair growth. But I am happy you have found what works for you :)
@@matildastanford7019 hello i am asian and thinking of doing electrolysis in australia , do you have any recommendation of electrolysis place other than galvanic in australia ? So far I have never waxed, and I think for patients who have laser or IPL it is not recommended to wax, moreover combining it with electrolysis will not work because it should focus on one treatment, why did you choose wax?
Thank you for this video . I really need an answer for my question as I didn’t find it online . I’ve done a first session of thermolysis and I DID FEEL THE HAIR PLUCKED ! The justification of my esthetician is that I have dry thick hairs . Is it true or she really did not do it well and tries to trick me ?
You shouldn’t feel the hairs pluck throughout the whole session. Once the hair is destroyed at the correct setting, it just slides out with tweezers. I recommend you try someone else and compare the sensation 💗
Hi Melis, I had electrolysis done recently and now my chin area is so numb. Also during the session I felt a lot of tugging when pulling out the hairs and the electrologist said that's normal.. What is your thoughts on this I feel I dont want to go back to her again
Hey numbness can happen especially on the chin. If it’s still numb after a couple days, use a warm compress (warm face cloth) to bring blood flow to the area. This will help! For future, i recommend doing a shorter session and asking for the hairs to be spread out (rather than treating every hair). Tugging is ok, but plucking the hair out is not ok. You can try someone else to compare the sensation 😊
Please answer my question.. Recently I have been diagnosed with pcos and I am experiencing hirsutism on my body.. especially on my face.. I haven't touched my facial hair yet.. The hair are fine in size. If I do electrolysis how many sessions do I require? Will it cause any permanent damage to my skin?
There is no possible way to determine how many sessions you will need to get your results. It can take 1 year for some people or 2 years for others. If you have PCOS it will not be a permanent result for you. Once the bulk of hair is removed, you will need to maintain by having top up sessions a fee times a year. Scarring and pigmentation are the two possible risks. But if the aftercare is followed correctly and the treatment is done by someone with experience, these risks are low.
Is the price really $30-$200? Seems like such a lifesaver but how many sessions? Also is there any way to tell if the person is doing it bad before treatment?
@@melisatesbel I've heard that thermolysis harms the collagen in the face and "pre-ages" your skin with wrinkles. If you're young, you may not notice, but will become apparent by the late 40s. Have you heard or observed this?
Hello! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO! I would like ask a one question please. I want to combine laser with electrolysis. For example, can I do laser next day after electrolysis?
Hi, laser requires the hair to be shaven and electrolysis requires the hair to be long enough to slide out with tweezers. So the two treatments don't go together at the same time on the same area. But one way to combine both is to complete a course of 6 laser sessions and then do electrolysis to get rid of any hair that is left. I hope that makes sense.
@@melisatesbel thank you so much for your response! The question is that I am experienced the paradoxical facial hair regrowth. I was so happy with the results of laser on my body that I've decided to do laser on my face, on that time I had about 20 thick black hair that I tweezed. So after laser now I have much more hair on face - incredible beard! I am scared to continue laser to don't make it worse...
@@yuliya_ivanovna_petrova The same thing happened to me! I personally stopped laser and only did electrolysis for facial hair. It took a long time to reverse it back but it is much better now

@@yuliya_ivanovna_petrova The only time people do laser first is when there is a lot of hair to begin with. From my personal experience, I saw that if it has already stimulated hair, it won’t make a difference if you do 2 more sessions.
