For an 84 year old radio it still does look pretty good Jay. Running over that cabinet with steel wool and cleaner does pretty much help the cabinet. Great job so far Jay. thanks for sharing.

Hi larry, so good hearing from you. I was so surprised finding one close by, about 25 minutes away othervise shipping could be to expensive. You are absolutely correct about the condition of this radio, need to make some time to work on the chassis. Have a good day Larry. Regards, Jay

Nice looking radio Jay. Should be a lot of fun to fix up. I'm sure your daughter will really like it once you work your magic on it. Zenith was a good radio, well made, but nothing lasts forever. What you've done so far has it looking so much better. :)

@@RadioFixer Thanks for the lovely comment, crucial in the current climate, not the weather-climate lol. Not my first comment here, and I did follow the link you suggested in a previous comment to the rat radio. I could only watch a little bit as it was eye watering you trying to extract that rat. I promise I'll watch that full series someday. This Zenith is by far my favourite looking radio design from that era, I have a 1938 RCA Victor 98x waiting patiently for a restoration, just other projects and life getting in the way atm. Your Zenith just blows other radios from that time period out of the water. Your daughter is very blessed. Take care friend

Joatmon, I know what you mean, wish that I had more time to do more repair and restoration. Hope soon I can make some time to work on the chassis. Glad that you have 1938 RCA Victor 98X, hope soon you will fix it and enjoy listening to it. Good hearing from you. Have a good day!

Great job on that cabinet, she’s lookin good. Most of those buttons and knobs you can probably get from restoration radio. I think, maybe, possibly, perhaps. 😮

Hi Jim, is so good hearing from you and thank you for taking time to sending me message. A true gentleman! In the past bought some knobs from them and was very happy with their products. Lately making my own knobs, guess I like the challenge.. LOL Love to learn new things, not sure if you had the opportunity to watch my video regarding that. I was lots of fun, "How to make Knob and other missing Parts" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5htJASUWE1k.html. Have a great day Jim. Regards, Jay

Turned out very nice, as expected, I think once this radio is done, you should put it inside your remodeled bathroom, I think it should go in to the Shower Stall!!!! It deserves the best!! 🙂 Robert, San Diego

Hi Robert, that is a great idea since have not used the shower yet.. LOL. Finally installed the bathroom faucets, was to hard to remove old ones since they were over 25 years old. I need to make somethime to work on chassis and tons of other stuff around the house, darn thing is a none stop, list is getting longer and longer. Which I could retire and do more fun stuff. How are you doing my friend, any new projects that you are working on? Have a good day. Regards, Jay

Lots going on, restoring and fixing radios, stereo and FM Tuners and ham gear. Keeps me busy in my garage for sure... Temperatures are in the Mid 70's right now, normal humidity so it is comfortable to spend hours doing stuff. After watching your video, I ran down to the local auto parts store and got some of that Hand Cleaner as that seems to work great on wood surfaces, and if need be I can clean my hands after working in the car's engine compartment. Don't be fooled, after retirement you will find yourself doing things you never got around to doing, seems only yesterday I retired, but it has been 4 years and a lot of my ham radio projects are still not completed,, nature of the beast.... Hi Robert, man you are busy doing fun things, hope will see some pictures soon, that is awesome. Here the temperature dropping as well so I can enjoy outdoor. No more high 90's or 100. now is dropping to low 80's.. LOL. As always is great hearing from you. Have a good day friend.

This looks like a model 6-J- 463 which has a 10 inch speaker. Chassis model 5679. Not sure if there is any paperwork attached to insides to confirm that but I did see a photo of that model on line and if you look it up you will see I'm right. Great job on the wood refinishing so far Jay. Looking forward to part two! P.S. Switzerland ,Fl is so hot and flat. Don't know why they named it that!

Hi Steve, just recheck inside the cabinet and it is model 5808 and have tuning eye vacuum tube. All parts are there so far, need to make some time to work on the chasses hopefully soon. This is the info about New Switzerland Florida that I fund. "Francis Phillip Fatio, Sr. (1724 - 1811) a Swiss native, brought his family, slaves and personal possessions here shortly after Spain ceded Florida to Great Britain in 1763. After obtaining a crown grant of 10,000 acres in this area, Fatio imported materials from England and built a country estate where he lived the life of a frontier baron. The plantation buildings were destroyed during the East Florida patriot revolt in 1812." Good hearing about you as always Steve. Regards, Jay

@@RadioFixer That is chassis number for the radio. But if you look up 8-S-463 you will see the photo and it is the exact same as the one I previously mentioned . Use that to find the schematic on line!
@hestheMaster

It can be found under the model number 8-S-463 with chassis number 5808. Had same wooden cabinet as a 6-J-463.

Hi Steve, I checked again and the tag that glued on wooden cabinet shows 5808 with no additional information. The chassis tag shows S736827 no additional info. I found schematic on Rider for 5808 model. Guess this is similar to other version. But how do I know, I was not around when they made these things.. LOL. Hopefully one of these day I get better doing this crazy stuff... LOL

Beautiful job, I have a similar radio, same finish that has been restored, the cat tried to jump on top and left some light scratches on the side,,,what product do you recommend to eliminate or at lease hide these scratches,,? I don’t want to have to refinish the whole side as scratches are pretty light ,,thanks Ken

Hello Ken, so good hearing from you and thank you for sending me uplifting message. I suggest to use the same product that I used in this video (GOJO Original Formula Hand Cleaner) use paper towel first to see if the scratches is coming off, if not use steel wool #00 with GOJO but be very gentle rubbing against the cabinet. I also sometimes use (Meguiar's Scratch X2.0), this product is liquid remove scratches and clean plastic, backlight, and furnitures. Again be very gentle. It should work. Feel free to watch my other videos where I used Meguiar's Scratch X2.0 on plastic and backlight radios. Please let me know the result. Good luck! Have a great weekend. Regards from Florida, Jay

Thanks for the info,,,,will the Mcquires actually work on a wood product that is finished ? Sounds like it’s really for metal and plastics,,,,I see. Different scratch removers but they are for either light or dark woods,,,afraid to use them on our radios as they are more blonde or.a med finish,,,,,looking forward to seeing part 2 of your video. I have about 8 different radios that all work,,,the Zenith is my newest,,,1939 as I really like the older models with legs , from the twenties, If you send me your email, I’ll send you some pictures I’ll try going lightly with the gojo,,,luckily scratches are on only one side ,,,, Have a good weekend Ken Spokane, Washington

Ken, good hearing from you. I used Meguiar's Scratch X2.0 on table and got a good result, of course had to polish it since Meguiar's leaves some Hazy. I totally understand what you mean, stay with GoJo cleaner instead. I would love to see your collection. Please feel free to email me at: radiofixer@yahoo.com

I want to congratulate you for starting this hobby, it is absolutely fantastic hobby and very rewarding to bring them back to life and sing again. I really appreciate your time watching my videos and sending uplifting comments. I am doing this as a hobby with no electronic background, trying my best to create detailed videos to encourage others without electronic background that are new to this hobby so they can understand and not get overwhelmed. The goal is to rescue old rusty, dusty, and ratty radios for future generation to enjoy the beauty of old technology and very unique designs. you might enjoy watching this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uMfL4Eakzng.html, it was 100% restoration. Each are so unique and different and I tried to take different approach to solve the problem. Have a great day! Regards, Jay
