I am doing this as a hobby with no electronic background, trying my best to create detailed videos to encourage others without electronic background that are new to this hobby so they can understand and not get overwhelmed. The goal is to encourage others to rescue, preserve, rusty, dusty, and poor condition radios for future generation to enjoy the unique designs and the beauty of old technology. Enjoy these videos! I wish you could show in the video how you cleaned the chassis… have you washed it with water? Or just blow the dust off with air? Any added soap or solution? Thanks.
@RadioFixer
@RadioFixer День назад
Hello, I think that I showed how to clean the electronic chassis. But don’t remember. 😂. Take it outside of the house since it might be so dirty. Use small paint brush and air to clean it. Document all tubes locations, then remove all so you can reach tight area. You can use liquid car wax after good cleaning. Be very careful not to damage wires. No water or any comical. Are you comfortable to use soldering iron? If this is your first time, practice on something else until you get comfortable. Hope this helps. Have a good day.

My first car EVER was a 73 Tii, in Verona red, I purchased in 1983 for $6500. I was 16 years old, had recently become a certified SCUBA diver and made a ton of money repairing in-ground pools that summer. Drove it for ten years until a dude in a Lincoln Town Car tried a u-turn across a too-narrow road way too close to me. Stuffed my Tii into the ditch to avoid a T-bone. I've had 4 total Tiis over the years, 3 '73 and 1 '72. I miss them all.

@RadioFixer
@RadioFixer 15 дней назад
Hello, good hearing from you. Feel free to watch this video "Part 5 - How to repair broken Bakelite radio". Where I discussed how to lubricate/repair electronic clock and hope can assist you. I think that radio was designed to run on 117 Volts electricity as I recall. These days in my area house electricity runs between 120 -122 volts, maybe due to that the clock runs faster but not sure if that is the problem or not. Try to use "variac transformer" where you can adjust the amount of electricity goes to the radio to see if that is the reason. If that is the case then try to install a diode to the hot powerline that goes to the clock to reduce the amount of electricity goes to the clock. I add diode to my radio that I mentioned above. Hope that video assists you. Feel free to let me know the result. Have a good day! Regards, JZ

When measuring the resistance of the 6.3V winding, by rights you should unscrew the pilot light bulbs otherwise their filaments are in parallel with the transformer winding.

James, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I don't recall if I mentioned that on my video, you are absolutely correct, all tubes and pilot light should be out when testing power transformers. Thank you so much for taking time to message me. As I mentioned on your other comments, I truly appreciate you experience and wish that I had mentor like you when I got started instead struggling for years to be able to repair these videos. It is absolutely a fantastic hobby and very rewarding as you know when they sing again. You might enjoy watching this on my channel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9XTMsSLZs90.html I had to build so much parts for this radio. Have a great day. Regards, JZ

For those not inclined to want to make their own, reproduction knobs for Zenith radios are available from Renovated Radios LLC.

James, you are correct Renovated Radios LLC selles most radio knobs and they look fantastic. I guess that I like the challenge and like to make as much as I can to see if is doable. LOL Most of the time I look around the house to see what I can use to fix the radios, it is lots of fun to figure things out. LOL. Please feel free to watch “Rat House Radio” on my channel that was the most interesting rebuild. I actually surprised myself fixing that. LOL Try this link to the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uMfL4Eakzng.html Have a great day. Regards, Jay

Hi James, thank you for bringing this to my attention. You are a true gentleman. I truly appreciate you experience and wish that I had electronic background or mentor like you when I got started. Was always fascinated with radios since was a child when we actually listened to radio shows as a family. Years ago before internet (LOL), went to public liberty and check out every book about the subject to understand it better. As you know book knowledge is great but I needed working knowledge and experience to be able to perform. Every radio I learn more and more. Have a good day! Regards, JZ

Deoxit is the goto cleaner for switch contacts, connectors and tube pins and sockets.

James, you are correct. I have used Deoxit for switches, contacts and very happy with it. Since we live in Florida the humanity is so high most radios tube connections and pins are corded and not having a good connections so I used the other product for that since it works very well in high hummanty. Have a great success using it on my cars that I restored and in process of restoring. Good hearing from you, thank you for reaching out and sending message. Regards, JZ

Alternatively, you could have fitted that replacement belt without dismantling the entire mechanism.

Hi James, good hearing from you and thank you for taking time to message me. You are absolutely correct about that. I had to remove it since the inner shaft (volume control) was rust out. Also there was not enough space to measure what size of built I needed. This was my first radio that had belt so I learn a lot working on it. I am doing this as a hobby with no electronic background, trying my best to create detailed videos to encourage others without electronic background that are new to this hobby so they can understand and not get overwhelmed. Have a good day! Regards, JZ

Another awesome video! Why do you only have 1.4 subscribers?
@RadioFixer

Steve, so good hearing from you. Thank you for reaching out. Glad that you enjoyed watching this video as well. I tried to do my best to use different techniques to repair radios then other RU-vid channels. I make or duplicate missing parts instead of buying or use other radio for the parts. Check some of my transistors radio videos. They are also fun to bring them back to life. Good question why not having enough subscribers. RU-vid changed their algorithm and the way people subscribing. So many of my subscribers are not receiving notifications when I upload new videos. I think that I have just close to 100 videos and other channels might have close to 1000 or more so RU-vid algorithm doesn’t promote my videos that much. Also their algorithm checks for how many people are liking the video and how many sent messages regarding that video. Over 75% of people who are watching my videos are not subscribers. The algorithm magic of RU-vid looks for how many select 👍 and how many sent comments. Any way I hope that I answered your question. Have a great day Steve. Regards, Jay

After seeing your video,I had to find mine to see if it still plays. It's been nearly 20 years since I recapped it. I recall that it was very difficult to get it apart with the way they mounted that loopstick antenna. And yes it still plays great!!😊

Gerald, so good to hear from you! Thank you for taking time to message me. So happy to know that your radio still working after 20 years recapping it. This radio was so challenging since it was rust out due to battery corrosion and other issues. It was fun to bring it back to life and sing again. You might enjoy watching “Rat House Radio” on my channel, that was a basket case. LOL Have a great day! Regards from Jacksonville Florida, Jay

Excellent video. Perfect detail and some great ideas. My only issue is you can't make a missing part. You need at least one to copy. I have a few radios that I'm rebuilding. All the knobs are missing. I'm looking for a way to make one know from pictures. Then I can cast a new set.

Hi Steve, thank you for uplifting message and taking time to message me. I know what you mean; it is much simpler having at least one knob to duplicate more knobs from it. What I did in the past used toothpaste or other bottle caps and create a mold from those since some of them are so close to radio knobs design. Look around the house to see what bottle caps can be use. I also fund one knob on eBay and duplicate that for my radio. It is lots of fun to create your own radio knobs, great personal satisfaction. You might enjoy watching “Rat House Radio” on my channel, that radio did not have any knobs and was a basket case. Have a great day! Regards from Jacksonville Florida, Jay
