How To Replace Husqvarna HU800AWDH Blade Adapter

The blade adapter with the sheared-off 5-point star is made from sintered metal (at 3:10, it says "SINTERGY"), a process where metal powder is mixed with a type of epoxy, heated, and injected into a mold. The mold is then put under high pressure and heat, creating a sintered metal part. Problem is sintered metal parts have very little shear resistance, coupled with high weight which provides a heavy rotating mass. Most sintered parts are rarely, if ever, deburred, leaving sharp edges to cause other damage and injury. Use of an alternate blade adapter is the best way to preclude repeated replacement of sintered blade adapters, which are currently listed in Amazon for between $14.00 - $29.00 and more. Several alternates are available, but the MTD 687-02528 blade adapter (for a 1"/25.4mm engine output shaft) seems to be a favorite because it's primarily made of forged steel and is much stronger with significantly shear resistance. Other models are available for different engine shaft sizes. Use of a part like the MTD may have a different blade mount, like a 4-point, which requires the use of a converter plate or a different blade, but several of my customers have elected to spend about $35.00 USD and make the conversion. In each case, no other blade adapter issues have occurred.

Same thing happened to me with my 2013 HU-700F. The star-pattern head had sheared off the blade adapter/pulley and broke into several pieces. Thanks for posting the video!

That blade has GRASS SIDE stamped into one end of it so you know to have that side facing the ground.

You remove the spark plug and pull the starter rope to pump the fluid out of the open spark plug hole. You can accidentally turn the blade by hand with a spark plug installed and have the engine "kick" and severely cut you or it can actually start and remove fingers and more. That sintered metal adapter is considered a fuse to protect the crank shaft snout from damage in case you strike a hard object with the blade. The failure that you witnessed is by design. That is a $599 retail mower brand new with that Honda engine. Wash it, replace the blade, wax the paint and you should easily grab $200 for it on Craigslist.

ALWAYS disconnect the spark plug before attempting to turn the blade. If the spark plug is connected, turning the blade can and will manually start the engine and possible injury will follow.

I have same mower and believe it or not go on website and parts pretty cheap direct from HUSQVARNA and I downloaded manual. I would have pulled it from trash too easy fix thanks, I love working on my mower and small engines

Is the key way attached inside the adapter?Mine sheared off due to using an impact.Can i just get a key and slide it in and be good to go?

Just pull the sparkplug and pull the starter rope a few times...that will blow the oil out the sparkplug hole. Quicker and easier. Oh...and you haven't failed until you quit.

When I attempted to remount my sharpened blade the screw just drops in and hits no threads. The star pattern on adapter is still decent and holds the blade but can't figure why the screw doesn't catch when remounting the blade.

My blade adapter key is broken in two pieces for you know what the part number is for the key.

Please remove the spark plug wire before you turn the blade.

Would this adapter the same for Husqvarna #LC221 A model? What is the adapter part number for yours vs LC221 A? If you know part number for my LC221 A Adapter, please share?

Hey Joe! Nice find. If it has a metal chassis, can't you beat out the dent? If not, just grind the same off both ends of the blade to give you clearance. Grind a new edge while you're there. Saves buying a new blade. :o) All the best, matey.

Anyone able to help, LC221A: 1. Is the female thread on Crankshaft (5:31) or on the Adapter (6:15)? Have the part number for three but Husqvarna has none in stock. 2. Adapter #590 04 42-01. What is this called so I can ask from Amazon or locally? 3. Blade #586 85 96-02. Would any 21" be okay? 4. Bolt #582 38 84-01. What are the dimension & size of the bolt so I can buy locally? Bolt fell out (can't find it) and blade flew (into the pond) almost cut my daughter's feet.

Don't ever turn that blade on its shaft without removing the spark plug, because you are manually starting that mower by turning the blade. That junk mower setting by the trash wouldn't be worth losing your fingers over. Joe take mower safety 101.

Please don't buy a new blade, just sharpen the one you have.
