LATOMMYLA I just watched you fuel line video, and that was great! You made it easy to follow and I think a novice could do it with your instructions! I've had a lot of practice at these now so I've gotten more confident!
I just bought a 1998. When I turn to the right the driver side shakes violently, and I was going 60 mph on freeway. Thought my tire was going to fall off. Looking to rebuild my suspension system your videos will be very helpful. Thank you so much.
@@GarageBuiltHondas I was able to swap the driver side front without a hiccup, I should’ve started earlier lol tomorrow I’ll get the passenger side done for sure. Thanks for the video
Just changed my rear struts and control arms, and stabilizer bar end links on my BB6(01 SE) yesterday.....took a bit longer than I anticipated, but went pretty well.....thanks to your video.....fronts are next week! Just rented the spring compressors from Auto Zone, and they made it possible....great video! Thank you! 🇨🇦👍🏻
You make it look easy. When I replaced the boots on the front drive shaft of my SH, it was very difficult to assemble the fork back on, due to the pressure the shocks were putting on it. I am not an expert so I am sure i was doing something wrong but I managed to get it done. I now want to replace the shocks and you made it look easy, i am not sure if I should do it myself. Also, i want a good set of coil-over that are not overkill, just better than stock for my prelude. Any suggestions? Thank you
Wow I did the rears the hard way I bnb didnt know the upper control arms came off that easy I was fighting the rears for an hour each with a scissor Jack on the upper arms to push it down
anymore details and future plans on your EF or ED's whatever u prefer? are u gonna turbo the track car what about the green si i want more EF stuff right meow! and love your videos and how clean your EF's are glad to FINALLY see a true honda OG with taste!
+chris mccauley Definitely plan on more mods/upgrades to the EF's! Just finishing up some work on the Prelude then back to wrenching on the EF's real soon! Thanks for the comment,I appreciate the support and always trying to keep them looking/running good!!
I just remove the top hat bolt while on the car and after raising it it'll just all drop out. You have to use a tap and gently tap out the bottom support bolt but other than that its easy and quick as pie. I've never been able to get any spring clamps to fit stock prelude springs anyways Haha Also while your springs are off it's a good idea to replace the shock tower mount bushings.
Great video, did you notice any difference from the rear driver side to rear passenger as far as height or suspension geometry, was everything symetrical?
do you have a list of the parts you used for this replacement? I have a 1998 prelude. trying to change out everything.thanks good video makes me feel confident to do it myself.
Quick question! Id like to restore my lowered 1998 Prelude to stock height. The current strut/shocks are some type of Bilstein. It's Yellow. I was wondering what I replace them with. Previous owner still has original springs. What are your recommendations? Thanks for your awesome videos man!
I have a question I lower my car with lowering springs but didn't change the struts at all and I know the ride is bouncy n hitting metal to metal everything is right the only thing I known is the struts are totally blown out.
Hey I have a 2001 honda prelude automatic that keeps stalling every time I drove my car really fast then come to a stop at a light or sign, the idel won't catch also and drops to low when that happens. I already changed my iacu and changed my catalytic converter any help right now would be great
The egr plugs are plugged with carbon they are little caps about 6 of them right under the fuel rail clean them and it should be good I did that on my lude.
What kind of springs are those? I have a 5th gen on stock suspension. Want to upgrade the same way so there ast shocks, where can I find those springs with that same spring rate.
I need help with my 01 Honda prelude type Sh , my vtec is not working and I've tried checking the vtec solenoid changed the gasket , I put my car and a scanner and the only thing that popped up was knock sensor (I replaced it , really hard ) and idle control system , I NEED HELP ,
Have you checked the oil level in your engine? I know some vtec engines will not engage vtec if your oil level is very low. Perhaps test your vtec solenoid to see if it is getting power. If it is, replace the solenoid. Its not unheard of for these to fail. Good luck!!
Hey! I have a 1997 Prelude SH. I am looking to purchase some aftermarket 17” wheels. What wheels and tire setup do you run? I am looking for similar fitment. Also I am lowered on skunk2 coilovers.
Hi I have the 01 prelude, just bought the coilovers, but one of the reverse 17 mm bolt on the bottom of the front shocks is prevented by the lower control arm... I tried so many different ways to remove that bolt, but have no luck because I have to remove the control arms which has a really tight bolt underneath it so you have to use a lift from shop... from your video, I didn't see that piece of lower control arm that's in the way of the reverse 17 mm bolt?
It's the 17mm bolt @0: 45 of the video, the bolt from the fork that's facing inside of the car... I couldn't remove that fork because that inside-facing bolt ... my friend says I need a clamp to keep the springs compressed so when I take the wheels off, it won't expand thus the height of the bolt from the lower side of the fork will be higher than lower control arm, which is in the way of removing that bolt. Do you think that's true? Any advice would be greatly appreciated because it's really frustrating im stuck with just one bolt and mechanics would charge 2-300 to change them...
Remove the radius rods from the LCA at the ball joint. Use a ball joint separator tool so you don't damage them. That'll give you enough room to get it removed.
Yes, a spring compressor isn't required for taking OEM springs off, but it is very helpful. If not using one, throw a blanket/towel over the top hat and parts as you remove them so it won't allow them to shoot across the floor. It's not a huge amount of force as I've done plenty like that in the past
Dude was talking to you about eBay parts a while back. Do you remember this preludes wheel and tire size? I just got some 17x 7.5 40offset, 215/45/17 and they rub the fenders like a mofo....
good vid. i am gonna try to change shocks on my 4th gen using this guide. i hope is the same. when i hit potholes at higher speeds seems like suspension is going out trough the hood. sounds like some explosion. springs don't seems broken. i am almost sure shocks are dead. i have them for 10 years
Garage Built Hondas I am in Eastern Europe. No Autozone here :) I found some for 15$. I have other tools from this manufacturer and they are always ok. Thanks for the tip anyway.
I'm not sure. Maybe his was missing. He hasn't owned the car for a long time. I couldn't tell you where the suspension was bought. He purchased it all and I did the work for him.
They all should have bump stops, it helps to protect the shock from being damaged by bottoming out. I think some people may not reinstall them not knowing what they do.
When I just did my rears the strut(washer) had sheared the bottom 1/8 of my bump stop right off? Like it was cut! I needed new struts badly! Used the old bump stop without the bottom half inch that was cut off clean, and worked perfectly with oem springs...cheers! 🇨🇦
+Brian Aguilar I think it depends on the transmission you're using. I bet the B16/ITR would be more aggressive. I'm not sure about the GSR compared to the H though.
Garage Built Hondas We just asked the dealer and they said they were discontinued for the rear That's why they sold KYB's off eBay for dirt cheap. Just doesn't make sense lol
Every video I've ever seen use a spring compressor. Apparently you don't need one for our setup? FYI I subscribed. Hopefully you'll get more 5th gen prelude video's up.
+Jesse McGill you need one to put the OEM spring back on for sure. But for lowering springs it's not needed. You can even remove OEM springs without it, but when doing so you need to put something behind and in front of the shock/spring assembly to soften/catch the parts when they shoot apart.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Ok thanks . I just bought some clamps and saw the video and thought I wasted my money on them. Mine is stock.i guess I will need them after all.
That tie rod boot at 6:36 looks shot, maybe they should be replaced as well. In my Prelude, it would make this horrible noise when I would turn. Based on the suspension components, I'm guessing this this is a base model and not a Type SH lol
+Gustavo Castillo it is, and it will be replaced along with both sets of tie rods. This actually an SH model with the 2 ball joints on the lower knuckle. Your comment was funny! Lol
Garage Built Hondas Haha, I made myself look like a fool then! Yeah, I haven't touched my Prelude since November of last year. I'm currently of doing a rebuild for the engine. This is a very helpful video, thanks for working on an SH!
+jronayne88 owner didn't know unfortunately until I got to work on it. He said the car was very soft and wanted to try something different. I mentioned that if these new springs/shocks don't feel any better, I'd stick with the Teins and the new shocks.
Garage Built Hondas what's your take on a bb6 prelude 97 stock h22a4 p5m ECU that has no check engine light, but once I rev past 6500, I receive a cel with p1259 and p1399 code? Cleared the code and doesn't come back. It consistently triggers once I hit 7k rpm.
+J. R. I don't know much about preludes, I did however just Google both codes and looks like there are plenty of people who have had these issues. I would read some of those threads and make a checklist of all things you've tried. It'll help you narrow it down and probably fix both. Google "prelude code p1399" and the same with p1259.
Garage Built Hondas thanks man! I'm not mechanically trained. I can just do easy bolt ons, change tires, oil, filter , coolant bleed, etc, but like getting into the engine oh man lol.
+J. R. At least you're trying! The fixes I was reading about seem pretty easy. I think you could tackle all of them after you mentioning the stuff you're familiar with!
Garage Built Hondas Well like every honda in California it has a salvaged title and the rear subframe is tweaked to the right so I had to disconnect the four wheel steer and man handle the hell out of it.
+Sr.Sanhco lol, not at all. But I was "always" looking and had money ready to buy so that helped. I still look weekly at what's for sale locally just in case that one pops up that is worth it. I have run across a bunch of very rough EFs though too.
Very Nice as usuale jon! I start making some videos too! Me and My Friend have make a video for Take down ( Sorry for My English! ) the gearbox on the crx ed9. And Soon We put on you tube a video of the disassembly of the stock gearbox and the mix with parts of a rover gearbox.. mainly for The 4.25 final drive !! If you are interested Take a look at the Channel! alfredo corradi #poveroracingteam
Both dampers ( shocks) are garbage brands. Brand name dampers like kyb Sachs, tockiko or even factory are the least you should use as replacement. If you want to lower the car, do it properly with proper spring rates and konis or better yet Bilstein dampers. Not disrespect but the owner should expect a crappy ride and handling and no durability.
