I have 2 dracaena plants and in our old house they grew slow with the larger of the two having very narrow leaves closer to the stem. Since we've moved I put them next to our deck door to allow for more sunlight. They have both grown atleast 6 inches or more with thicker healthier leaves. So my advice is to make sure they have a few hours of good sunlight for healthy growth. Good job in getting those sprouts!!

Thats great! Some species of Draceana require different lighting. Draceana fragrans takes low-light fine, but Draceana reflexa is more needy of light and will die in low light levels. Cheers! 🌿

Hi thanks for this informative video. Please advise me if you can. I have a dracaena fragans that has three trunks, one of the trunks had die back and had no off shoots, I have cut back the dead top to healthy material but I’d like to know how to get it to grow off shoots? My second question is on another plant there’s off shoots that are brown I think it was over watered. Can I cut the shoots off or cut them back? If so will fresh leaves grow? There are two off shoots at the top of the trunk like this. I have trimmed most of the brown away but it’s reduced to less than half of the leaves. Thank you for any advice you can offer

I got my dracaena fragrance off Craigslist free with a couple other very sick plants like a drowned orchid. The dracaena was left out in the sun to scorch and it was extremely over watered. It was completely yellow and brown when I got it. Now it’s got browning bad of of the burnt spots. I put it out in the rain a few days ago but now it’s just getting worse and worse even though it looks more green. Is there a chance my dracaena has leaf tip burn from fluoride in my water? Should I repot it? I’ll take any suggestions. I hope it’s not completely dying. 😫 I’ve been feeding it worm castings and misting it. Watering only with distilled water or rain water once a week when it’s dry. Also, I have it sitting on some wet rocks on a shallow plate all the time to keep the environment humid. Being careful the roots aren’t touching the wet rocks. 😖 Good news for the drowned orchid…it’s growing new roots and leaves!!! After totally being bound up in a crammed plastic container with mucky moss, then once I took it out of that pot, I noticed a bunch of tiny insects in the roots. I totally replaced the medium and let the old roots out to breathe even though they were already soggy with rot. Now for my poor dracaena, I might not be so lucky. They all came from the same owner. Even a drowned aloe too. But we all know, aloe bounces back much faster and easier.

Probably should edit the video. Mid video, Natureman cuts the draceana incorrectly. I cut it as instructed. However, towards the end of the video he comes back to tell us that he cut it incorrectly the first time. So he explains how to cut it correctly at the end of the video. The part where the draceana was cut incorrectly should be removed.

I have two new cornstalks and some of the leaf tips are browning and some have a singular brown spot. I’m new to the plant mom life but I’m wondering if I’ve either watered too much or not enough. I’ve only watered them once a week with the soil being dry in between waterings. Other than trimming, what should I do?
@NatureMan1
@NatureMan1 3 года назад
Overwater the leaves would yellow before turning brown. Its possible it may be getting too much water. They can go much longer than a week between waterings. I typically wait 3-4 weeks to water. Let it go completely dry and stay dry for a little bit before watering. Having consistent moisture even a little will quickly rot the Draceana. If the leaves aren't yellowing, then It may be a lighting issue. Depending on the species depends on the light. But try high indirect light for best results.

I got a dracanae of some kind off the side of the road and have been struggling to revive it. It was scorched and primarily consisted of leafless stalk. Over the course of a couple bad months for me one of the stalks died and a new shoot shot up from the soil so I think I can just prune away the dead stalk on that side. I don't know what to do with the other living stalk. It's so stringy and ugly. If I top it like you do, it will have no leaves at all. I think the stalks belong to the same root system. Is it possible to prune back the green stalk so it will attempt to create new shoots closer to the base? I'm hopeful about reviving it because of the new shoot.
@NatureMan1
@NatureMan1 2 года назад
Hi Sarah, lots of times with plants that have lots of energy in their roots but the stalks above aren't enough and are dying will send new shoots to use up the energy in the roots. It is not a guaranteed solution. If the plant is stressed enough pruning the entire living stalk may kill it all together. However, I would prune back the foliage to the last leaf node below the foliage to trigger more growth. Hope this helps, and best of luck! 🌿
@MachuPeaches
@MachuPeaches 2 года назад
@@NatureMan1 thank you for replying. Most of the leaves save for the few on top are completely gone from the live stalk. The other is shriveled and brown. The other day I was inspecting it and noticed that the living stalk DOES have a new bud emerging low on the stalk! I would still like to shorten it's stalk some eventually since it's kind of gangly looking and maybe propogate pieces from it. Do you think it would be too weak to do this with the new shoot? Or is there anything I can look to know if it's ready for something like that? I was watching propogation videos and it seemed all that was needed was a bit of the cane but I've never propagated a plant before.
@NatureMan1
@NatureMan1 2 года назад
@@MachuPeaches You can cut above where the new shoot is emerging. The plant will put its energy into that growth.

I don't have a green thumb, but I am a lover of all kinds of plants. I usually buy artificial plants to decorate my home because they won't die on me. I really wanted real plants though, so I bought a Dracaena. Sadly, my Dracaena Marginata is dying.😭 It has brown and yellow tips which I keep cutting. I read to water when top soil is dry 1-½ inches. I also read to put it in the shower and give it a good soak when it's dry to the touch. I did that. Then I let it drain and put it back in my kitchen. The leaves started turning yellow, so I figured it was root rot. I put it outside in the sun to dry a bit, but the leaves turned soft and brown which I had to cut a few of them.. After it dried a bit about two weeks, I only put one cup of water now. It's still dying. What am I doing wrong? I love my poor plant! If you can help me, I will subscribe to your channel!!!
@NatureMan1
@NatureMan1 11 месяцев назад
Draceana marginatas are easy to grow once you get a handle for them. They prefer medium to bright indirect light, though they tolerate lower light levels. Water when the soil completely dries out. A lot of times the top of the soil dries and deeper in the pot it remains consistently moist. That leads to root rot. Bringing it outdoors shocked it and it got sun scorch as it's been its whole life indoors. I HIGHLY recommend a Moisture Meter! Never judge a plants need of water just from the top layer of soil. I use one, and I swear it helps! I let my Draceanas dry completely (below a 3 on the Moisture metwr) then soak them, I never let them stay bone dry for long. That's the key I really hope this helps! 😁
@NatureMan1
@NatureMan1 11 месяцев назад
You can get a moisture meter on Amazon or your local garden center. They are never more than $15. And you can sometimes get them for less than $10. They do not need batteries, so they work forever. They detect electrical resistance in the soil to determine if thr soil is wet or dry.

I live in Canada and the weather here is -30. I went to the store to buy a Dracaena, as a new plant Mom I don’t really know how to take care of one so I’ve been doing some research. When I brought my plant home, it was exposed to the freezing weather for about 5 minutes. Now some of the leaves are wrinkly and has turned brown. My apartment also has baseboard heating, I’m currently using a humidifier to help with the humidity. Can you give me some pointers to help save it?
@NatureMan1
@NatureMan1 3 года назад
Yeah if it is subzero as little time as possible outdoors. Being outside in subzero temps for 5 minutes should have killed it. But if it is still alive cut back any stems that are dead. If there are no green leaves you can bend it to see if it is malleable or scratch the bark to see if its green. If not cut it back, and hopefully the living stems will send new shoots. Depending on the species most dracaena do fine in low light and water only when the soils starts to go completely dry. They have intolerance to wet feet. They are not finicky with humidity. Mine do fine in dry air no problems. Best of luck!

My Dracaena had root root. What can I do? 😭😭
@NatureMan1
@NatureMan1 3 года назад
I am assuming you meant to type "root rot". Draceana does not like any consistent moisture in the soil. I always let it completely go dry between waterings. I have learned regular potting soil doesn't always dry much, and can lead to root rot in plants. I use cactus potting mix or coconut coir. These soils dry the fastest. You can also add perlite to help drainage. Also if your Dracaena roots have rot, it likely can't be saved unless you cut the non dead stem to root.
