Thank you for walking us through this.

No problem, I thought it was worth doing as it's quite a big update and the last thing anyone wants is to brick their camera doing a firmware update.

I did the update and tested it using the SAMSUNG t7SSD. all seems to work out well.

Glad it all got updated with no issues, I have also found that drive seems to be working really well. It's a nice little setup.

We need the REAL TIME LUT function in the GH6 also. Panasonic gives too much video love to their photo camera G9ii and forgets the GH cameras, even with the GH5 and G9, G9 got more love

Yeah it's a shame they haven't ported that over to the GH6, I feel like it's going to be a 'new' feature in the next iteration of the camera at this point, which is a real disappointment. I don't see why it can't have live view composite mode either. They say that it's easier to just keep the features rather than remove them, so why isn't that in there? You're right in what you say, it only seems to work one way and not the other which is disappointing for GH line users. Who knows maybe it will appear 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the videos, i a of great help. For video at weddings , what lens recommend,

No worries, glad you are finding them helpful 👍 I don't shoot weddings but something like the Panasonic 12-35 mkii f2.8 might be a good option. I personally don't have it but I have the Leica 12-60mm and the Panasonic 35-100mm and they are both great lenses imo.

I am presently testing the Kingston XS2000 2TB SSD. Which on paper is faster than the accredited drives! it is vitally important that a really high end cable is used otherwise you get a message after a while stating that the drives read speed is not fast enough. So far in 5.7K ProRes 422 25fps It runs perfectly but the internal battery dies after about half an hour so a dummy battery solution is essential to use the card at its maximum otherwise there is no real advantage. The battery also is quite warm when removing. The result was the same using the original Gh6 battery and an old G5 battery both original or third party! The drive shuts down after a few minutes if trying to record in HQ with the Kingston XS2000! Work in progress! 👍🏾🙏🏾

Yeah having the right data cable is definitely important, I kind of touched on that in the other video where I talked about the short cable on the E61 drive. I have shot a bit with the AC10 adapter attached but I think for longer form content away from mains power it would definitely be a case of looking into a V Mount battery solution. Hopefully, there will be a few patches and additional support on the way as well, its still early days.

I have not updated my firmware for a while. Do I need to update 1 by 1 or just update the latest version? Thank you
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Год назад
I did all of mine one but one but I believe you can skip versions. 2.1 does have to be installed before 2.2 though as mentioned in this video. You can see all of the firmware updates available here - www.panasonic.com/global/consumer/lumix/gh6_firmware.html

Thanks a lot for all of your videos! I do have a slight problem… I formatted the card and put both files on the card, then inserted it in my GH6 but the ‘Firmware Update’ button is greyed out and when I click it it says ‘This menu item can’t be set’. I tried it on a different SD card as well without luck. Do you have any idea what I should do or what I am doing wrong? Thank you!

I tried everything, I only have version 1.2 installed so I tried to update to version 2.0 first. But same problem occurs. I have no idea what to do now 😕 Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hi, no problem, glad you are finding them useful 👍 It's hard to know without seeing but 1. make sure the card was formatted in the camera (not on your computer) 2. make sure the .bin files are on the root of the card (not the .zip files) 3. only have the card in the camera that your firmware update is on 4. Switch in to single shot in the top dial Then give it a try again, if you still can't get it working maybe do a quick video and I might be able to troubleshoot it. I upgraded to V2.0 first before trying the 2.2 update, to do that just make sure the 2.1/2.2 files aren't still on the card.

Do you need to take the Lens off to do Firmware Update? Roman
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Год назад
I have seen some people do firmware upgrades with just the body cap on the camera but I have never seen anything in the upgrade documentation to recommend it. I have never had an issue upgrading with the lens on. To be honest, it would take me longer than the firmware update to find the body cap for my camera 😂

Confirm .Kept my lens on. Went through just fine. The only ssd i have is Angelbird Atom X w adapter and is working only up to 2Tb unlike original fw i was using 4Tb CF Express from Angelbird Ya know.Great Channel . Thanks

@@DroseMr Glad the update went smoothly. Sounds good, I am using the 1TB version of the Samsung T7 shield and so far it is working well. Thank you, I appreciate the support.
@razfilmstv

so you have to format the SSD drive?
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Год назад
Hi, yes you will, its the same with CF Express or SD cards, you should be formatting them before using them with the camera. It's not compulsory with cards but there is a much higher chance of them having issues if they aren't formatted in the camera first.

is it possible to supply AC during the update so as not to rely on the battery? Why does it take so long to update such a large file size, because only an external drive was added.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Год назад
You could but most people likely won't have that option, so I didn't mention it. It's two updates rolled in one so only really a few minutes for each update.
@lnuponom2678
@lnuponom2678 Год назад
@@stevelitton So everyone can connect the camera to AC power via USB.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Год назад
@@lnuponom2678 You mean have a power bank connected while doing the firmware update? I wouldn't do that because it might cause issues during the camera restarts.
@lnuponom2678
@lnuponom2678 Год назад
@@stevelitton I had in mind both a power bank and just the supply of current through usb from the network, and even how you supply current through a dummy.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Год назад
@@lnuponom2678 I think not having any additional accessories attached is probably the safest way to do it. The internal battery is more than succificiant to complete the update.
