HTC Vive Unboxing, Setup + Gameplay! w/ Hat Films 

Ah... those are not sensors they are emitters, they sweep lasers across your room. They do not scan your room but you get to calibrate your space with the controllers. The ports on the backside of the emitters are for cabled sync (in case wireless is giving issues) and firmware upgrades, no active connection to the PC needed. The extra facial interface is actually a different size! But! Never mind that, you actually got it up and running :D And jumped into a quite tricky game to muster xD It has comfort options on the F buttons but yeah... perhaps not the most made-for-room-scale game :) Looking forward to see you guys play more in VR :3

Martyn, the "lighthouse" base stations are not sensors. The Vive has sensors all over the headset and controllers. They are the small circular recesses on the hardware bodies. The base stations emit laser signals into your room which the sensors on the headset and controllers then pick up and then use to calculate their own orientations and positions (based on which sensor holes were able to see which signal with how much delay, basically)

When he was showing off the controllers, he sounded like an aeroplane safety instructor.

I'm fairly sure the lighttowers are in fact not sensors, but send out IR beams that the headset tracks. This aproach, with tons of sensors on the headset, I beleive was chosen do to latency.

Windlands has an anti motion sickness overlay you can enable, it looks like a sort of wire cage over the screen which gives your brain a still point to focus on.

They were saying about motion sickness, I wouldn't be surprised if far-future VR kits develop a feature that (harmlessly) affects your inner ear so your brain almost thinks you're moving in order to try to combat this

Windlands can be really tough on the stomach if you struggle with simulator sickness.

I know some people complain about the whole 2 eye vr video thing, but with the rise of cardboard VR viewers and smartphones, I think it would be better to use both eyes so that those of us without a super-expensive headset can get some idea of the experience with a 5~ viewer.
