Hi, I need a joint sponsor (my father) becasue my 2021 was just shy of making enough (pandemic....). This was after I filed 485 with USCIS, they asked for a joint sponsor. Does that mean I have to complete this as well? the 864A?

I got an RFE for my joint sponsor which says "we could not determine that the joint sponsor is qualified" we think because in the most recent tax year of 2021, his IRS Transcripts shows collected $35,000 of "Total Social Security Benefits", none of it were taxable.... but on the "Total Income" line on IRS Form 1040 shows only $5,000. His total annual income was $40,000, which is more than enough to support a household size of 3. Does USCIS not count Social Security Income as qualifiable evidence of 125% of the federal poverty guideline compared to Taxable Employment Income because according to the RFE, only the "Total Income" line is used to determine a qualifying sponsor? My joint sponsor is retired, but makes more than enough income with Social Security Benefits to qualify. So we think the only other way to get approval is showing documentation of the value of his real estate property which is $600,000 and use this as evidence.

Got another stupid question. I have a co sponsor but he doesn’t live with me. He is one of my relatives. (Cousin) He want to co sponsor with me. I understand he has to live with me? My question is related to Joint sponsor filling the I-864 (Part5 Sponsor's Household Size). My joint sponsor has sponsored her 13 years old child in 2018 and this child is still a dependent to her and has a green card. Now, in (part 5 question 4) it stated such: "If you have dependent children, enter the number here. In Part 5 Question 6, it says "If you have sponsored any other persons on Form I-864 or Form I-864EZ who are now lawful permanent residents, enter the number here." Therefore, I want to know if we must enter 1 for both questions 4 and 6 since my joint sponsor has one dependent child whom she sponsored two years ago by filling form I-864. However, if we enter 1 twice that will add up to 2 which means we double counted this child twice. Please help me out.

So... they said they I don't meet the minimum income ... and I could send and joint sponsor form. My question is how do I do it? I want to use my wife's income as a household member. My spouse's joint sponsor is single and is only sponsoring myself with the i-864. My spouse is already a US citizen. Does this mean I can leave q 21 and 22 blank? (part 6 sponsor's employment and income). No-one is listed in 8. 14, 11, or 17 as using any income to sponsor me. (Just my primary sponsor and the joint sponsor). The primary sponsor is my spouse. My husband is an active duty. From what I understood from your videos, we have to file l-864 for the principal sponsor and l-864A for my husband who’s the one making the income. How would I handle this situation? My wife's 2020 income was short and did not meet minimum, we have asked her son if he could be a joint sponsor and he has agreed. his 2020 taxes were filed jointly with his wife they have two children and they, together met and exceeded the HHS Poverty guidelines for a household of 5. He has started a new job in Sept 2021 at $16 and was just promoted and is now making $18/hr which works out to $37,440 per year and falls short of the HHS Poverty level for a household of 5, but his job will pay bonuses and as a manager he will also put in a lot of overtime hours that will see him making $60K-$80K, his employer has given him a letter stating this. When I populate box 7 in part 5 I can only put his annual income based on his hourly wage $18/hr ($37440/yr) Do I include his letter of employment and check stubs and hope for the best? Do I need another joint sponsor? Can I have more than one joint sponsor?

So I am doing adjustment of status for my husband I brought here with the k-1 visa in October. We married December 4. I’m filling out the paperwork now for the affidavit for his adjustment but I don’t have paystubs for last three-5 months I just started working again after being with him for one year. During his visa interview they didn’t ask him for anything more and I had no joint sponsor I don’t know if I need to put one now? Since I don’t have many paystubs? We are going to use my husband’s(petitioner) son-in-law as a joint sponsor. Now the son in law lives with 4 kids and his wife (my husband’s daughter). The son in law is the only one working and is pulling in income for the whole household. Since he is married, does the wife still need fill out a i-864a even though she is unemployed and has no income?

Hello @Ksenya, does the income from the joint sponsor adds up to income of the petitioner/sponsor? For example; If I, the petitioner, has $30000 of income in our tax and it is shown at I-864, and the joint sponsor has $25000 income, and is shown at their tax document/I-864 as well, does the USCIS adds it up? like $55,000 in total?

If my joint sponsor has also filed self employment on his 1040 but makes enough money from w2 income do they have to also put the self employment information on the i864 or can he just use his w2 earned income since it’s enough to be a joint sponsor without the self employment
