Loki, the god of mischief, is literally gender fluid. Norse mythology is so much fun it's my favorite. Also Rick is my favorite author, go check out Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard!! I think you'd like it. It's only three books and they're available on audible! :) Have a good day!!
Jamie, I sent you a Instagram direct message, showing you my new hoodie i bought and its dinosaurs with LGBTQ flags with word puns in the dinosaurs names relating to the sexuality orientation/ plus trans one ^^ i sent a link as well
I hate it when groups of people complain about the representation of their group in tv. There's a show that shows a jewish girl as a total stereotype. Do I care? No. So why do they care when the gay character is white or black or asian or feminine or "too straight acting" or anything else? It's just toxic
@@miragreathouse299 you can choose to not care about it and that’s your opinion, it’s just a step in equality for everybody. If we’re equal why do some people always get portrayed as either the bad characters or side characters that don’t really matter. Also, religion is really different from sexuality, gender, race, etc, but we should still all get equal representation in public spaces and in movies. That’s my opinion.
MadTaz Glee Jewish is a religion and a race. Characteristics of Jewish people such as nose shape and hair texture were made fun of in the show. Anti Semitism is excused because ashkenazi Jews are white. So yeah, I’m tired of people thinking it’s okay to 1. Deny that Jewish is an ethnicity and 2. Tell Jewish people that anti semitism is fake when LITERALLY YESTERDAY a Jewish hate group requested to follow me and some of my other Jewish friends on Instagram. It’s not a “choice”.
@@sarahstardust me too, it used to be just my trans friends and I had our probouns in our bios, but now some of my cus friends are doing it and it's normalizing it and making it a thing everyone does, not just a "trans thing" and I really appreciate it . I also don't like to assume people's gender by their appearance, so it really helps me to not do that.
That's a thing we've been doing on Twitter too. I thought my pronouns were obvious - I have 'mama' right there in front of my name - but even with that and having she/her in my bio I still get people calling me by male pronouns. And even as a cis woman and mother of five and pretty secure in my identity, it pisses me off every time.
Loki is infamous for being a symbol of fluidity, and thusly her/his gender expression is not affixed. The character that Rick is talking about is kin of loki, he/she is genderfluid and REALLY cool might I add
3:45 fun fact: snails are hermaphroditic, so they'd actually be a great symbol for trans, non-binary and intersex people, since they also don't conform to society's heteronormative views of sexuality ;)
My biology textbooks are kinda neutral. They (sorry, should I use they or it? Still learning that english thing) just don't say a thing about gender or sexuality, no representation or anything. Maybe that's why my classmates are like that.
I find it hilarious when people say that non-binary/trans people is a "new concept"... Actually many cultures including Native Americans have had terminology for a "third gender" for hundreds if not thousands of years... It's not new at all
My “friend” won’t read the 4th Percy Jackson book in the second arc because of Nico’s sexuality. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND! ITS NOT REAL AND EVEN IF IT WAS WHY IS IT A PROBLEM?!
I love this. Yeah, Rick Riordan and his assorted LGTBQ+ characters have become such a sense of comfort for me, and honestly, reading about them was one of my big, “oh, I’m LGBTQ+ moments. I wish him the best!
The genderfluid character in Rick Riodan's book is the child of Loki. Loki, though usually male, transformed into a female on at least two occasions I believe. He even gave birth to one of his children. So, yeah, reasonable to write a gender fluid half-god child of loki, just in terms if a mythology standpoint. Unrelated, but relevant. One of the most famous stories from norse mythology has Thor cross-dressing. And more subtextual than anything, but Odin, the patriarch sky-god and leader of the aesir, was the god of magic among many other things. Magic was considered an extremely feminine thing to do back in the slavic and Germanic cultures norse mythology originated from, so it's extremely interesting and sort of telling about how the people who worshiped thought about him. Odin is always kind of characterized as this godly balance between two contradictory things. The creator of the world, he's also the god of death. He's both a wise, gentle father and an unmatched berserker. And yes, he's both characterized as very masculine and very feminine. It's not definitive that that was the intent behind his characterization because so much of norse mythology has been lost to time, but that's one possible interpretation and I personally really like that. Scandinavian culture was comparatively more progressive than others at the time so i feel it makes sense. Anyway, All-father bless.
well magic was a unisex thing and used by all genders HOWEVER the type of magic that was (almost) exclusivly used by woman was called "Seiðr galdr" (Seidr magic) but because Óðin wantet to be all knowing he wantet to know all aspects of magic equally so he was taught seiðr galdr by Freya
About norse mythology: Loki. I mean, Thor does walk around in a wedding dress for a while, but Loki is a actual mother. To a horse. Loki is nonbinary and no one can change my mind. ALSO cool Loki story I have heard (not gotten verified anywhere, but hey): Loki was originally just the god of Fire and Change. Not mischief or tricks, just change. A good god, like all the rest. But when viking society became more stable and conservative, suddenly a lot of stories about how Loki was bad popped up, and that's about when he got connected to Ragnarok (the doomsday tale), and became commonly known as the God of Mischief and the trickster in Valhalla.
From what I have heard that story is highly debated. Sturluson and other retellers have a theory that we are missing a few works that would put Baldur's death into better context. It could be the coming of new religions from the East. It could have been agricultural revolution or a change in cultural ethics. It's up for debate. Thor and the wedding dress debacle was to protect Freyja from being forcibly married to Thrymr. I love that poem for how little Thor can keep his cool during the whole adventure. Would love to see Hemsworth recreate that.
I remember once reading the whole Ragnorok thing was a very christian type of story and might not have even been part of the original mythos. And being a Christian story they felt the need for an "evil" figure and pushed the well meaning trainwreck that was Loki into that role.
I read somewhere that the Norse considered order and civilization as masculine and nature and chaos/change as feminine, hence why Loki shifted between the two so often.
@Amber Dantzler what @moon book was trying to say is that rick riordan now has a publishing company that publishes books by other authors that tell mythological stories in the same way he does. it’s called ‘rick riordan presents’
I always loved uncle Rick way more than J.k. Partially it was affected by the fact that i read PJO earlier than tried to read HP and camp full of kids with adhd and almost zero theory teachings, only cool shit seemed to me more appealing due to me also having adhd. After pjo magic school concept seemed so boring to me. And I don't need to be ashamed of being fan of JK phase bc i never had one
Amy Hewitt, yeah! He wrote an entire book from the POV of a distaste Bi, with a gay son with an emo boyfriend. And Apollo is a horrible father but at least he’s accepting and cares about his son. Like he does not give a crap he’s dating a boy, but he does kinda worry that his son is dating a pile of goth darkness. Lmao
@@fabuloushatlady7812 Well we don't know Will's sexuality (unless it's stated later as I haven't finished ToA) but yeah he only cares about the fact that Will is dating the (not so) scary son of Hades who could easily murder Mr Sunshine healer boy or get his father/undead army to do it for him
I just wanted to say that yesterday I was hanging out with a friend and we both got bubble gum ice cream (blue and pink) and I said "Hey when the 2 colors combine they kind of make purple, so that's like the bi flag" and my friend was like "And with the marshmallows being white you can also make the trans flag" *silence* ... us at the same time: "Jamie!". I just thought it would be funny and I wanted to share it, also love your videos, I'm pretty new, but they've helped me with my anxiety a lot and understanding my agender partner better, since I'm cis. Thank you so much for existing!
Same... except I'm cis....and I don't wear a binder...and I was in battle gear and a covid mask....in the field.... without a.c. ...in Louisiana.... soldiers and trans men shall crush the anti maskers....but not alone.
Gender Fluidity in Norse Mythology: the easiest read is that Loki is commonly seen as genderfluid, what with his constant shapeshifting, and often into a woman. Also: in that last meme/comic thing? That's not hair, that's a stylized raised eyebrow.
Loki in Norse mythology is literally genderfluid. Some of his titles are Mother of Sleipnir(who is an 8 legged horse), and Mother of Monsters(a title he shares with one of his mates Angrboða), Father of Hel and Lord of Mischeif. Genderfluid Loki is canon in Norse mythology🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚
Monika May I’m bi-gender/genderfluid (still trying to figure out which term is more accurate for me) and I personally don’t mind any pronouns people use for me. I have an online genderfluid friend who people will refer to as “she/her” when she acts more feminine and wears more feminine clothing, “he/him” when he acts more masculine and wears more masculine clothing, and then “they/them” when they’re more androgynous with clothing and gestures and such. It’s a really nice concept (to me at least and I hope I can have that one day). I can’t speak for Loki or other people with it, though. I suppose some genderfluid people like certain pronouns while others don’t care as much. It just depends on the person (:
@@trashmouthcharley The fictional character seams to predominantly identify as masculine (brother of Thor, Son Laofey/Odin) but will take on a feminine identity when the mood strikes (mother of Sleipnir and Jormundur, folk got around.)
So I finally got my binder yesterday- And the first thing I did today was throw on a cute dress and go for a walk for the sheer purpose of confusing people.
@@sam-jf7lk Solangelo was actually the couple that helped me understand lgbtq+ more (i was raised in homophobic family yeah). Like i read my first pjo book in 2 grade or so and when you basically grew up with characters it was so easy to just be oh okay they're gay, that's cool i still love them. Love uncle Rick 🥰
Monika May I have homophobic parents (and family in general) who tried to raise me to be anti-LGBTQ+. I was, too, at first. I feel great shame and disgust thinking back to things I said and did to people just for their identities and orientations. I started “maturing” out of that phase a few years ago. I just stopped feeling like I should care so much about other people’s lives unless they were actively and knowingly hurting someone. Then I got introduced to different pro-LGBTQ+ things, such as some music artists and songs, movies, books, etc. Then I realized that I was actually a member of the LGBTQ+ Community. I’m a pan ace and I’m bi-gender/genderfluid. Of course, I doubt I’ll ever come out to my family, it’s still nice finally understanding myself to this extant. Well, that’s all for my random backstory. I hope you have a good day!
"Rick Riordan" No it's Uncle Rick Also, Loki is a genderfluid god. He is mostly male, but he has given birth to children as a woman. And at one point Thor was like "A GIANT STOLE MY HAMMER AND WANTS LADY FREYA TO MARRY HIM BUT SHE SAID NO HELP ME LOKI" and Loki just dressed Thor up like a girl an changed into a pretty girl and did all the talking to get them close to the hammer then Thor got it back and killed them all.
5:10 To fill you in Loki is most likely gender-fluid. They spent a good amount of their time as a woman (shape-shifting helped of-course). One story that instantly jumps to mind is when they escorted Thor to be a giants bride so Thor could steal his hammer back (apparently the beard didn't give the game away somehow). They turned up as Thor's maid but after an excessive amount of alcohol decided it was a really great idea to turn into a Mare and jump into a paddock full of horny stallions as a distraction. And that is why you never mix your mission impossible style infiltration with booze. In all honestly Norse Mythology is amazing. Greek mythology reads like a tragedy, Norse mythology reads like the most bonkers fraternity party you've ever seen.
Me: *in history class* My teacher: *being sexist and saying straight out that girls don’t like school but for our essay we can choose a female celebrity instead of a historical figure.* (No girl in my class ever said anything about not liking school) Me and my ex female non-binary friend: *passive aggressively writing essays on women who fought for women’s education, and saying things like “this girl loved school so much she was willing to die for it” out of spite.* Me and non-binary friend: *Sitting angrily. Jame: uploads* Us: *happy gay noises*
Tamiki Amajiki, you bet we both wrote the most passive aggressive essays ever. We had to talk people we would like to meet( dead or alive ). And I choose Katherine Johnson, Eleonor Roosevelt, Greta Thunberg, Emily Dickinson (my current favorite person. You dramatic gay poet.) and Malala Yousafzai. And my non-binary who is dating a girl, and understands female struggles joined in with more women’s rights activists. We did not get this far just to be boiled down to makeup and clothes. Hell yeah I am going to one day get a PhD in high heals and lipstick.
okay jamie, here's the rick riordan genderfluid deal: in one of his series (Magnus Chase and the Gods Of Asgard is the name if you wanna look it up :-) ) one of the main characters, alex, was genderfluid. rick riordan has always been open on lgbtq+, making gay characters and all, but this was the first non-cis character. in the book, alex was shown presenting as different genders and using different pronouns. i assume this might've received some backlash because this series was targeted towards children, ' oNcE aGaIn FoRcInG tHe AgEnDa oN oUR chILdReN oH nOOooOO!!!!1!!!1 ' the books were about norse mythology, but i do not know how that relates to gender. feel free to comment if anyone has any other ideas or if i miss any points, it's been a while since i read the series. :)
This channel is making me learn how to LGBTQ+ people. You're all amazing! Also, a few weeks ago, I shared one of your vids with my in-transitition trans friend. *He* (still getting used to the community, I'm sorry, I'm trying to be more tolerant so that I don't sound offensive in my questions/comments, k?) is loving you. I have a feeling that he subscribed.
My friend: **gets a trans flag** My mom and dad: **looks at the flag and the mini flag I painted** Me: *i j u s t t h i n k t h e c o l o r s a r e n e a t*
Me picking out paint for a birdhouse: Well, I want it to be colorful, so let’s get some nice colors together that compliment each other well. *Grabs pink, yellow, and light blue* Perfect! Hold on-
I love Rick riordan there is so much diversity in his books especially the magnus chase trilogy wich sports many main characters including but not limited to, a black dwarf fashionista, a deaf mage who has arguments with everyone in asl, a Muslim main protagonist who fasts during a quest, a bisexual lead and a gender fluid Potter who is pretty lethal with a clay cutter and there gender bendy fashion sense,
In Norse Mythology, Loki is the father of the Fenris-Wolf, the Midgard-Serpent and Hel, the Goddess of the Underworld, which he had with a giantess witch, but ge is also the mother of Sleipnir, Odin's horse. Reason being, when the Asgardians asked a giant to build a wall around Asgard they promised him that if he finishes in time, he will be allowed to marry Freya, the most beautiful of all goddesses. When Freya heard of that, she went into rage mode and the Asgardians had to find a way to make him be late. Now the guant had a stallion who helped him and without whom he would not be able to finish in time. So a couple of days before the wall was finished Loki, a male god, turned into a mare, a female horse, and distracted the stallion long enough so the wall didn't get built in time and he got pregnant. He carried the foal until it became to big for his womb, when the foal tore out of him (Loki was immortal, so he just healed right up). The foal, Sleipnir, had 8 legs and even as a foal was faster than basically any other horse, so Odin took it as his horse. Sleipnir from then on carried the God of all gods, lived in Odin's hall, Valhalla, and carried dead warriors who died in battle to Valhalla. Sorry this is so long, I'm really like norse mythology.
I really like Norse mythology too, but instead of basically repeating what you said cause this is an oldish video that I know someone already commented on, I'll instead say that your comment is amazing, detailed, and explanatory, so thank you. Also, the character is a child of Loki, if you didn't know, Alex, is genderfluid, I think because he/she takes after Loki (who's canonically genderfluid in mythology as you described, comics, and hinted at in MCU), but I'm not sure Alex directly is genderfluid from being kin of Loki. I actually read those books and that's where the term first appeared to me, later helped me (along with theater & other self-reflection) to figure out that I am also genderfluid, specifically I'm a trans genderfluid enby, I relate to Loki a lot, he's one of my fav characters in MCU/Marvel comics, but not necessarily in mythology (cause Loki has done some really weird things in mythology lol). There's also a small comic strip, which I love & relate to, that I can't actually show here, but I'll try to describe it as best as I can: Loki: *younger, has shoulder-length dark hair & male presenting, with vest & button-down, goes to Thor, mumbling words* Thor... I don't feel like a boy anymore... Thor: *looks at Loki while sharpening a sword, in somewhat casual clothes, long golden hair ofc, pauses, then says* That's perfectly fine, Loki! *later* Loki: *female presenting with longer hair in a dress & makeup, slightly older* I am a woman now Thor: *in "usual" gear/cape/armor etc with Mjolnir* That's great, sister! *later* Loki: *male presenting again, different outfit, shoulder-length hair again* I am a man again Thor: *sitting on the couch with casual clothes/sweatshirt* cool Bro! *Loki is causing chaos & Thor is trying to stop Loki* Thor: stop this madness, sister! Loki: *mostly female presenting, longer hair again, with a fur cape & Loki's signature helmet* I'm a man! Thor: I apologize, stop this madness, brother! *both walking in casual clothes in the night, about to stargaze* Loki: *in androgynous outfit/presentation* I am neither now... Thor: that's fine, Loki *both lying down on the grass* Loki: *tied back somewhat long hair, pink clothes, but not distinctly male or female* I'm both this time... Thor: and that's alright too
@planet 4 yeah i just like to think "it's the environment they live in, it makes them apathetic to pain and suffering" so that i hate a bit less their personalities. Having a reason makes it better
7:47 I'm not trans but I feel this SO MUCH with the bi flag it's just ingrained in me I saw these dice the other day that were vaguely bi coloured and I really wanted them. Bi dice. BICE Edit: I'm reconsidering the "I'm not trans" part of this comment 👁️👄👁️
regarding norse mythology and gender fluidity: Loki, god of mischief, has both given birth to and fathered multiple children. thats the most succinct and concise way i can phrase that.
I put on one of my two dresses from Lidl (striped in white, yellow and black), put on my old light purple jumper, walked near a mirror and was like: Wait! Am I wearing a flag or did I watch too many of Jammi's videos? Seriously, thank you for all your videos. I learn so much. I don't understand some of it but I learn that it's none of my business because people are people :)
8:00 Same! I bought dyed eggs today, opened the package and not only were they blue, purple and pink, they were also neatly arranged with purple in the middle. Made me happier than it should've.
When Jamie said that you can spot those colors from a mile off, I felt that. It explains a lot. I could always see the yellow, white, purple and black colors in people’s outfits from across the store and be like, “✨Me✨”
For the Norse mythology thing, Loki was often pansexual and gender fluid in Norse mythology. I haven’t read all of the Magnus Chase books (which are Rick Riordan’s books featuring a trans character) but I believe that one of the main protagonists is a child of Loki and is portrayed as gender fluid.
I'm going to quote an article I read "the viking system was a one gender system, a system based on physically adequate and physically inadequate" in other words their society was based on their sexual Orleans functionality and in the case of men size, if it was too big or too small it could affect their social standing, they only care whether you can bang, if you can't that's where you got a problem, not what gender you identify ad lmao
My birds have the colours of the trans flag and it makes me so happy. Bourke's parakeets are prone to pink colour mutations and they often have a bit of blue plus white downs. I've been living with Bourkes for years but after my coming out last year I can't unsee the fact that I have four trans flag coloured balls of floof :3
I rearrange my family's cups and bowls into rainbow order so much it has become a habit, and I get a little upset when I see they aren't so I rearrange them again (even if it isn't my job to put away the dishes) and it gives me an immense feeling of fulfillment even though it's just cups
1:58 I just realised-- That would be a transmask-- Also I feel like a mask could either hide stubble or be disguised to look like a beard, so it works for both sides!
My best friend got me a card for my birthday this year, which I'm pretty sure she got from the bookstore she works in, depicting two kittens on a striped blanket. Striped in blue, pink, white, pink going back to blue. And while I'm enby I'm pretty sure she actually got it for the cute cats.
