I sewed a Barbie and the Rockers Gown entirely BY HAND...no sewing machine needed!

I was obsessed with the animated Barbie and the Rockers when I was a kid, and I wanted to wear Barbie's outer space ballgown so badly. So I drafted a pattern for the gown from the movie, and then I sewed my childhood dream dress, 100% by hand. That's right, no sewing machine needed! So this is a little sewing tutorial that I made to document the process.

Meghan your first video was well done! Throughly enjoyed watching you create this incredible dress. I am an 80's kid so Barbie was huge growing up. I enjoyed this. I like seeing the thought that goes into making something. I especially appreciate the discussion on perfectionism and how unproductive it can be. (Perfect mockups defeat the whole point of making mockups.) Also, it's great to see a kid's dream come true in adulthood.

Thanks Todd! And for sure, I've never been a fan of perfect, wearable mockups, especially since I hand sew everything! I'd rather spend that time and effort on the actual garment, to me mockups are just a prototype to test the fit of a new pattern and that's it :)

Hi Meghan, when I heard you started your RU-vid channel, I had to Subscribe and I'm glad I did as you are a national! Wow this video was amazing! Funny thing, a few of those stitches, I have used when I would mend or hem my cloth. I was wondering, how long did it take to finish sewing your beautiful dress and when did you start your RU-vid channel? Thank you and I wish you the best!👍👍

Thanks for the subscribe, Rosa! ❤ So cool that you've used some of those stitches before, they're great for mending and hemming! It took me about 3 weeks to draft and sew this dress. Usually with modern clothes I can sew them by hand in about a week because they're less complicated than historical garments, but this one took a bit longer because of filming and editing :)

@@meghansandor Hi Meghan, as a child of the 60's, I would make cloth for my Barbie doll as they were to expensive to buy, so maybe that is how I've learned to sew like that, not sure! I also took sewing lessons which I so much loved to do, I still love to sew that is why I will restart doing this year. Thank you!
