I went low carbs back in June 2021 because my body was like a house on fire. I was 5 foot 11 inches, weighed 244 pounds, had blood pressure of 195 / 98, I had pain and arthritis in my right knee, right elbow and right shoulder and I was eating constantly at McDonalds and all the big pizza chains, - in other words a standard North American diet. I felt like I was 2 weeks away from dropping dead. Now I'm down to 175 pounds, my eczema is gone, my arthritis pain in my right side joints is gone, my metabolic syndrome is gone. My blood pressure is down to 145/85 and my a1c has gone from 8.0 to 5.3. I want to get down to 158 pounds to make the blood pressure problem improve. Two months ago I went from Keto to carnivore because I was still experiencing little cravings for something sweet now and then like ice cream or a kit kat bar. Now that I'm on carnivore I feel so much stronger and mentally alert and my cravings for sweet stuff have vanished. From my experience what the authorities tell people to do on the subject of nutrition is all wrong
@Thethingswellmake

Definitely- one of the reasons I actually went through with trying this way of eating was that I was seeing how much we were being lied to on other topics. I saw they were trying to eliminate meat here in Europe (especially beef and lamb) and thought, maybe I should eat more of those if they say we shouldn't eat them. I know that sounds cynical- and it is, but that way of thinking has worked well for me lately. I just saw a video where a girl was saying that she was basically only eating meat (but drank diet soda) and the cravings didn't go away until she ditched the last bit of sweet. So, yes, even the tiniest bit of sweetness can contribute to those cravings. Thanks for telling your story. I've been trying to get my sugar down a bit (it's not too bad, but I'd like it to be lower) and it seems like a long game to get some of these markers to change. I'm also hoping for eventual weight loss. For now, concentrating on healing. I wish you continued success and the best of luck!

I too have no more sugar cravings in fact sugar tastes so awful to me now that I literally can't swallow it. A friend at work (i think she is jealous of my weight loss and trying to sabotage my progress) got me a piece of vannilla slice and I couldn't even chew it, it tasted like cardboard that had been soaked in icing sugar and I instantly felt nausea i had to spit it out and rinse my mouth. 6 months ago I would of eaten 2 slices and loved it 😮

I'm on my 3rd day of carnivore 🐅🦁🐺😁... I'm 57, and have been massively addicted to sugar pretty much my entire life. I also have struggled enormously with a binge eating disorder, and had been finding it nearly impossible to shake it. I have been incredibly disheartened and discouraged. However! Three days ago, a random video about carnivore eating plan popped up in my RU-vid feed, and I was intrigued. I decided to give it a go, and after 3 days, I can already tell that I feel much less bloaty, and so far have not even THOUGHT about sugar. That video popping up was NOT a coincidence, I'm certain! I am jazzed to see where this journey takes me. At this point I also have an objective of 1 month...but I have a feeling that it will turn into many more than that. I'm excited!! 😃👍🏻😃👍🏻😃👍🏻

Four months is a good stretch. They say at least three to even see effects. I’ve been 10 months carnivore and if healed so much. In November, I really started up my exercise, some serious exercise so the weight loss really doesn’t show and I don’t care because I don’t weigh I measure. But I feel so good at 64 I just cannot add all the garbage back in that I was eating. And by garbage I mean vegetables

Ha ha! Yes! It's funny because I was always feeling like I had to push my son to eat vegetables. I feel horrible about it now. We live, we learn. I definitely have added more muscle, so as the fat melts off, I think it should eventually show. The scale doesn't really matter too much, I just weigh myself out of curiosity. I definitely notice my clothes fitting much better. I'm wearing things that I wore when I weighed 10-15 pounds less, so I think that's a good sign. 🤣🤣🤣

Excellent message, thank you. I turned 60 in September and around mid-October I "stumbled" into "Beef, butter, bacon and eggs" as a way of life. I got bored with it right around Thanksgiving '22 and started adding salsa, avocado and grated cheese to my hamburger for a "Mexican style" and Italian sauces for "Italian Style". Just did my labs the other day and EVERYTHING has improved. No carbs and no sweets since October '22 but I do use "Keto Cups" by Evolved for "fat bombs" when needed...! Thank you again

I think that's awesome. I'm definitely not a carnivore purist or critic and think we each need to find what works best for us. We just found out my husband is a lean mass hyper responder, and he's adding in a few carbs here or there while we wait on the data about how the high LDL numbers in his case may or may not be a problem. I don't really crave the other stuff for now, so sticking with a more strict carnivore. 😊

I hear you on the brain fog! I had fatigue and constant hunger and brain fog so bad after a year on WFPB vegan after like you trying everything to heal autoimmune Rheumatoid Arthritis and Interstitial Cystitis, I wondered how the heck I'd ever managed to single-handedly run my own magazine business when lately I'd not even had enough brain power to make a RU-vid video! Instinctively, I knew I needed more fats and started watching carnivore videos after my doctor suggested I try it. It was really hard to switch from vegan to steaks, but it's only been a week, and unlike all the suggestions I decided to ease into it allowing myself a banana and oat milk smoothie once a day which eased the diarrhea eating so much meat and fats gave me and reduced the electrolyte depletion others all spoke about when transitioning. I've noticed already that my mind feels so much clearer, way less anxiety, sensitivity, hunger pangs are non-existent, no puffiness and bloating, more energy, I just feel happy and like my brain is happier. I'm now convinced to keep going and see how it goes with the bladder pain and Rheumatoid pain once I've stopped the banana smoothie. Already people are noticing an improvement in my skin and my nails are growing stronger too!

By now, I'm not really using any anymore. I may have an occasional tea or coffee when out and about- or on a day that it appeals to me, but it isn't very often anymore.

Here are the benefits I have seen: Mental clarity, I don't nap anymore and I'm only tired at the end of the day when it's time to sleep. My rectal bleeding stopped around day 4 (ulcerative colitis). My stools became completely normal. My skin cleared up, like you only get about 1 pimple around my cycle! My teeth became whiter and stronger, feeling as though I don't need to brush (but I do haha).Chronic idiopathic pruiritis gone, along with my Bipolar and BPD. No more mood swings. Inflammation completely went away, couldn't stick my tummy out anymore, and lost 11cms around my waist in just over two weeks. My period pain used to be so bad that it wasn't unknown for me to faint - didn't even have a cramp. Androgenetic alopecia - I was at the point I was out buying wigs. Not only did my hair stop falling out, it has started to grow back! The one thing that shocked me the most was needing less sleep. I've never functioned on less that 8.5 hours, and still, it took me a good 3 hours to properly wake up. On carnivore, I'm happy with 6, 6.5 (body needing less time to mend?!) and I'm bounding out of bed, focused and ready to go within half an hour. This diet has quite literally saved my life. @Salty Girl hi :) to be honest, I started to notice real changes on day 2 (mental clarity) and kept getting better from there. Carnivore flu is a thing and can be due to electrolyte imbalances - I just upped my salt intake and felt much better, this happened about a week in. As far as fat loss goes, most of my loss within the first 2 weeks, I'm guessing, was inflammation. I'm not a professional of the diet, but it may help to look into Dr. Kevin Stock (he has a website) as there is a load of info on there about specifically losing fat with the diet. Naturally fasting helps too. I typically eat my first meal around 1pm and last meal around 6. Hope that helps xxx

Hi Pamela! Thanks for the tip. Yes, I think that if I cut down on the dairy (mostly full-fat cream), I would probably see some weight loss...And, of course, IF would also help. I was mostly one meal a day during the week before I started this. So, it's amazing that I can eat more often and not really gain. I also really appreciate Dr. Berry and Neisha. I may try to reach out to Dr. Mindy Peltz and try to review her book on fasting for women. Glad to have you following along- and good luck with it!

Me neither- so sad. It was illegal for years here in Spain- and I guess they just legalized the sale again for raw cheese making, but there are tons of regulations- like it can't travel more than 100 km or something stupid like that. I'd just like to give raw milk a try. I don't do a lot of dairy, but I do like it. For now, I mostly have heavy cream, butter, and some cheese occasionally!

WOW! Just stumbled across your channel and let me say, I would never have guessed you to be late 40s. You look fantastic! SOO happy to hear another person finding the Carnivore diet is helping them. When you were describing the brain fog, I found I had that too but I didn't know it until it left. Then suddenly I was able to get things done that I'd struggled with in the past. Some of that has come back - I started as Keto back in Aug, 22 then switched to Carnivore about 2 months in. BUT I find I generally feel better having a few more carbs in my diet than Carnivore allows. I don't want to go back to my pre-Keto way of eating so if I keep my daily and weekly carb intake low, I feel my best. Keto allows like 25 grams carbs/day so multiply by 7 equals 175 grams per week. MOST days I have zero carbs so this gives me the flexibility to eat out with friends and really eat whatever I want, including dessert. Not only do I not feel bloated, gassy or mentally foggy, I actually often feel GREAT after this meal. BUT I hop right back onto the carnivore/keto eating habits with the next meal. This has been a really surprising thing for me and I'm loving it. Anyways, keep up the great work and as someone who's 55, you look MAH-VEL-OUS!!

Aww. Thank you so much! I'm glad you're able to find something that works for you. I've been experimenting slightly on the weekends, but I generally feel better during the week when I'm doing a more strict carnivore, especially when I eat more beef than anything. That said, I think it's good to allow yourself the freedom to eat a variety of foods as long as you seem to tolerate them. It's a great way to get to know what foods work best for you and also allows for more normalcy when socializing. 😏 I also think that cycling with higher and lower carbs does seem to work well for a lot of people. I haven't experimented much with it, but may consider it in the future. 😊

I do find I feel better when I stay more carnivore, though. All of that said, I've always followed that sort of plan and it has always worked well for me. I think cycling in that way can help if you have plateaus too. I usually would always gain a few pounds each weekend, though, and work on taking those off during the week. With carnivore, I don't really go up much on the weekend, if at all.

I am 1 month in. I can agree with so many things you have shared. Now I have a better understanding of the upper torso and head and neck itching manifesting in oxalate dumping. I had just stopped taking Zyrtec, like many meds I no longer seem to need. Zyrtec apparently had been masking the oxalate dumping. I am now taking Zyrtec every other day and then I will step my self off over a few weeks. The itching started on top of my head and was a noticeable change, I knew something had changed. The fog clearing has been massive for me. Inches come off before pounds, but I have lost 5 in the first 2 weeks and shortly I am thinking 5 more will be lost. Hi Kathy! It's interesting that you say that about no sugar- because I was very, very low sugar and still had the brain fog. Some of my other conditions were better, but others were worse. My low sugar, low carb, mostly paleo diet was heavily focused on "superfoods"- matcha, chia seeds, celery, spinach, almond flour, and almond butter, etc. So, it can be a sugar thing, but it can probably also be an oxalate thing. My diet was super heavy in oxalates. Hopefully, lowering your oxalate intake can help with some of the other things. The way I see it, giving it a try for a month can't really hurt. Most people, once they've done the month, see benefits and continue on to see if things get even better. I'm hoping the same for you! I should have my interview with Sally Norton about oxalates up soon. I did it Friday evening and was out this past weekend, so I haven't had a chance to watch it and edit it yet, but I'll be working on it as soon as I can!

@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake Год назад
As Dwight said, weight loss for females on carnivore can be a bit more tricky. We have hormonal differences that can complicate things. When I was losing weight at the beginning, I was doing quite a bit of exercise and we often dropped dinner because we weren't hungry for it. Once I started getting oxalate dumping symptoms (more on that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CSQTt8vzxP8.html ), I stopped exercising and started eating more often to self-soothe, and I gained back the weight. I've even gone up a bit more in the last week (but I did go off slightly on the weekend and we haven't worked out this week). Interestingly, I had also raised my fat intake by quite a bit when I was gaining back the weight. (In large part by increasing my butter intake) I lowered it again because I thought that going overboard on butter may have been part of it. It will probably take time for both of us to find the right rhythm, the right ratio of fats and protein, and find what works for us in general. It may also be heavily dependent on us healing first. I saw a testimony of a woman who actually gained over 20 pounds and then started losing dramatically months later (the first 8 pounds in just a couple of days). I've always been one to take a long time to lose weight and generally had to do heavy fasting and eat very few calories to lose (and even maintain). I had been eating only one meal a day before carnivore- and that one meal was mostly comprised of vegetables. So, I'm guessing I was probably pretty malnourished despite feeling I was eating a mostly healthy diet, and it will probably take a while for me to get my metabolism to where it needs to be for my increased calorie intake and a whole new way of eating. In any case, not gaining a ton of weight when increasing the amount and frequency of eating makes me quite happy. I know I don't have a ton to lose, but have some clothes that I want to fit back into from a few years back. I'm able to get into some of them, despite weighing much more than when I wore them before, but there are a few dresses I love that I'd love to be able to wear again. (And wouldn't it be nice to feel confident on the beach in a bikini?) 😏 I wish you the best of luck and hope we can both get to our goals. 2 weeks isn't long, so I hope you are able to stick with it a bit longer to see if you get better results with non-scale wins (and eventually the weight goals too). I am a bit curious about what you have been eating. I ate a ton of fatty meats at the beginning. I may need to go back to that.

I have Candida overgrowth. It has caused so many issues. Continuous bladder infections and sinus infections for years. Problem was the more antibiotics I took the worse things became. It took me years to understand what I had done to my body. Probiotics have saved my life for the most part. I still have a white tongue and it is a little better, now that I have done mostly carnivore for 3 weeks now. I had a major sugar addiction, caused by the yeast imbalance in my gut. I’ve done low carb for a while now but still had sugar in my coffee. Now that I’m doing carnivore I have removed the added sugar. The problem I’ve had is that as the candida dies off it makes you feel horrible. But I am trusting the process that I have to give my body time to heal, after years of this. Best of luck to all who are on their journeys!

I started the carnivore diet only a couple of weeks ago. Being a "foodie" and a sugar junkie, it's been tough. But I've been tougher! I found that if I ate before I got cravings for sweets I either wouldn't get them or they weren't so strong that I couldn't ignore them. Because you aren't supposed to have any condiments, I think I've found a genius way to have the flavor of condiments anyway. I always liked ketchup on my scrambled eggs and trying to eat them without was getting more and more difficult. So I got out my pastry brush and put just a drop or two of ketchup on the bottom of the plate and smeared it around the plate and then put my eggs on top. Viola! I don't believe that 1 drop of ketchup is going to ruin my diet. And, I've done the same thing with hard boiled eggs but I'm using mustard. It really livens up food and I don't feel like I"m missing anything. I don't think just meat and salt and water is sustainable but with just a touch of flavor it can work long term. Next, I'm going to make bread using egg white and whole egg powder. Oh, and I'm also going to make clotted cream for my coffee and experiment with making it into some kind of dessert? Wish me luck-
@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake Год назад
As long as you don't have issues with condiments, I see no problem using them in small amounts. Some people are very sensitive to even small amounts of certain spices and condiments. That's why some suggest that you cut everything out for at least a short time so that you can better judge if those things really affect you if and when you add them back in. Some are also very strict about coffee. Each person needs to find what works best for them! I make "bread" quite often with just the whites. I don't bother with any powders. 🤣 And your coffee sounds delicious. I'm sure you'll love it. The not-so-strict people also add a bit of vanilla extract. 😏 I definitely wish you luck and all the best!

I got a huge bag of roasted n salted cashews to snack on and had eaten half the bag before I felt saited then that night I fried the cashews in left over bacon greese and butter - soo delicious 😋 but since that binge I haven't had craving for nuts since. yesterday I got craving for marinated Artichokes, I don't even like them that much so this morning I fried the Artichokes in left over beef sausage greese with garlic and scrambled eggs and it tasted amazing. My sense of taste and smell has totally changed and I'm better at listening to my body, since being on carnivore I never feel hungry or thirsty and my sense of taste and smell has totally changed, I think the weird and random cravings for non carnivore food is my body telling me that I need something from that food that's not in the meat.. Yes, you can take supplements. I'm taking some electrolytes to help flush out the oxalates- mainly calcium citrate, potassium citrate, and magnesium citrate. I occasionally take omega 3s if I haven't been eating much seafood that week. (I have those leftover from before, though, and mostly just want to use them. I don't think it's necessary.) I started exercising again recently. I've been doing weight training and walking on the treadmill while I read emails, etc., mostly. I had stopped for a while when I first started just to focus on healing, but I wish I had just stuck with it. I haven't lost hair at all. I did lose hair when I lost weight a few years ago on a mostly plant-based diet. I imagine that the stress of losing weight too quickly on any diet could cause stress which could lead to hair loss. I wasn't eating enough food back then. I'm eating a lot more now so that could be why I feel better.

I understand. I actually tried the anti candida diet, which allowed meat and dairy and really only cut out sugar, grains, and fruits (if I remember correctly- it's been a while). Anyway, I thought it was impossible to follow and felt I "needed" fruits back. In the end, I'm not sure why I find this so different. It may be because you focus on eating and not what you can't eat. You allow yourself to eat when you are hungry and eat until satisfied. It's such a good feeling that it just motivates you to continue. In my case, people around me are eating bread- and I used to feel so deprived if I was avoiding it. Now, it just doesn't appeal to me, and I really just want a steak! I was really surprised, but it's been very easy for me once I got into the groove of it. I really don't feel motivated to stop. I have eaten a bite of a fruit a few times, but they now seem way too sweet for me. Like a bite is all I really would want. (Again, super surprising to me!)

Sorry I missed this before. Honestly, I'd say that if you're starting out, you can definitely be as strict or as not as you need to be for you! I'm definitely not a purist, but may experiment with being much more strict in the future just to see if I get added benefits from it. Some people think you can only be considered "carnivore" if you completely eliminate all plants, but in reality most animals that are considered "carnivores" are really only meat based and do add in some small amounts of other things. I would suggest eliminating the sugar completely, though, because that is what leads to cravings and problems with blood sugar, metabolism, etc. Some people do better by easing into it and slowly cutting down on sugar and plant foods. You may do best by going that route if you aren't feeling well. I was already eating a pretty low carb diet (with lots of nuts and seeds instead of meats) and am an "all or nothing" kind of person with these things, so I just dove right in. In the end, had I known what I know now about oxalates, I may have eased in too. Especially if you're really having issues, I'd suggest finding a doctor who is open to keto/carnivore type lifestyles and consult with him or her. Good luck! ❤️

5 years ago [in my mid 50’s] I tried Keto… had fantastic results but slowly I drifted to a [kinda?] Paleo diet, My big takeaway was NO processed sugars… Like you my reason was also skin issues, heart burn, bloating,etc… but the big reasons were joint pain [which I never had before] and nearly bipolar depression..came close to getting meds, but just couldn’t bring myself to it… figured I’d just “John Wane” myself thru it So fast forward to now. As I slid towards Paleo [some] of the issues were coming back… the depression and the massive brain fog, half the time I couldn’t find the words I needed to finish my conversations, frustration! I too listened to Jordan Peterson [and his daughter] and thought the “carnivore” things just seemed…insane. I too was experiencing, major mental blocks… working on clients videos and music became almost impossible to do [particularly the work that needed to be done with clients not here] So trying the carnivore diet seemed crazy at the time, but it may be the best idea I’ve ever tried. I don’t know how long I’m going to stay a Carnivore, but for now it’s working and thank you for your video! There is SO much more to my story, but I’m sure no one wants to read about it LOL [thats just fine]. Also to much to write…. I haven't heard anything about asthma. I wouldn't be surprised if it helped, though. It would depend, probably, on the cause of the asthma. Carnivore can help with inflammation caused by some plant foods. That inflammation may at least worsen asthma. But, again, I don't know for sure. When younger, I had exercise-induced asthma, but it sort of went away on its own as doctors said it probably would.

Perhaps, instead of weighing oneself, one should measure waist to height ratio and track that as an indicator of diet performance.
@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake Год назад
Agreed. I should have measured myself when I started, but since I sort of started on a whim, I didn't really think about it. I had been weighing myself with a tracking scale anyway, so I was able to see those changes.

I did the same with super foods. I ate my weight in almonds spinach and sweet potatoes. I started the carnivore diet and lasted almost 4 weeks. I don’t know what happened. I got so ill and each day I was getting worse. I went through the worst nightmare I’ve ever experienced in my life where I couldn’t stand for more than two minutes. I had never ending heart palpitations, I was extremely short of breath and couldn’t even finish cooking a simple meal without having to go over to the couch and collapse for 30 minutes to recover before I could return to the stove and finish. I got to where I was literally afraid to take a shower without someone else at least being in the house with me because I was too weak to stand for 15 minutes even for a quick shower. However, my sister didn’t experience any misery or adverse effects whatsoever. I don’t know if I went into instant oxalate dumping on the carnivore diet or if my body was telling me that it simply cannot live without carbs. I’ve done diets in the past that were extremely, and I do mean extremely low carb but I still was having some level of carbohydrate intake every day. I will go to my grave wondering why the carnivore diet made me so very ill but I’m willing to try a variation of it again. I hate myself for failing. I collapsed at my friends home and I knew then it was time to stop. I couldn’t let my pride and stubbornness caused me to wind up in the hospital. I pray I never feel that bad again. The only good things that happened was that I gained great mental clarity and my bladder inflammation disappeared completely. I think next time I will try a diet that is 90% meat with some asparagus each day and perhaps one or two pieces of Melba toast. I wish everyone here success and good health.

I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you! I think some people do much better by easing into things, especially if they were eating high oxalate foods before they start. I didn't realize it at the time, but I started getting those first dumping symptoms only a week into the diet. I was very strict at first. I think I'm better when I keep a few oxalates in for now. I'm by no means an expert, but if it were me, I'd probably add in more animal foods, little by little, and lower oxalate intake little by little. I just published my interview with Sally Norton tonight. You can see it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LRaxoR2qlNM.html I also did a video on my experience with oxalates! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CSQTt8vzxP8.html Not sure if any of that will help, but I do wish you the very best & good health too!

Sounds like you had what they call Keto flu. Usually it has to with needing electrolytes. I personally did not have that issue but I did a lot of research and still do. I like watching Dr Cyves and Dr Berry and Neisha. I do mostly ketovore right now I eat mostly carnivore but if I have a day I want a veggie or fruit I will go for a small serving of low carb options. My toe fungus cleared up along with my Vitiligo has started to regain pigment back. No more swelling feet. I've started doing Keto in April of 2022 and transition to to ketovore about 2 months later.

Side note: I question the advice to consult with one's doctor before one starts any change in diet. Doctors are not infallible, even those with an education in nutrition and then it's only a secondary degree to prescribing medications. They also might not be up to date with the latest research. However, telling us to consult with our doctor stops people from winning a lawsuit if the advice results in a health crisis.

Basically, yes, I think it's generally a call for legal protection. I think most of us realize that doctors are trained to follow the conventional food pyramid and it takes a special doctor to not think you're crazy for trying something like this. Luckily, more and more doctors are seeing benefits in their patients when lowering the carbs.

The biggest limitation of any discussion of a carnivorous diet is the lack of research. All of the studies on an animal based diet are in a very short (a few days), or case studies of Antarctic explorers or victims of scurvy or reviews of cultural practices, which always involve at least some plants. Studies that last few days can only tell about short-term effects in the longer term poor nutrition, may cause thyroid problems, hormonal problems, nutrient, deficiencies, and other health issues. Proponents of carnivorous diet claim that human body’s nutritional requirements are different after several months of eating only meat, but there is NO research to back this up (personal experience does not research make!)

I should add that my skin is so much better these days and I no longer deal with recurrent UTIs and Bartholin cyst. I think those were all due to my high oxalate diet! (I have videos up about that too!)

Hello! If you're feeling better otherwise, I'd stick with it. After this video, I actually gained weight for several months. I finally started to lose it again a few weeks ago, but we're on a cruise right now so I have no idea what I weigh right now. (Plus I'm on very relaxed carnivore while on vacation.) Anyway, sometimes people need to heal other issues before they lose weight. You can also consider playing with fat ratios. Some people need a lot of fat to lose the weight. For some, just adding more tallow or butter does the trick. For others, alternating leaner days with higher fat days works. Concentrate on feeling good. I wish you the best of luck.
