On another note I laughed at the fuel flying out and hitting the wall which brings up a story a friend told me when he worked at a Ford dealership in the mid to later 80's. It was during the winter and in cold weather and Ford was having some issues with the fuel injection system pouring in the rich mixture on their gas engines and if the engine never started due to how cold and stiff the engine was ( probably the block heater not plugged in or a bad battery with slow cranking speed ) , it would literally flood the engine with fuel. So pickups being towed in and then they would pull the plugs and turn the engine over with the starter to spit the fuel out which is not entirely safe regardless being gasoline. But on the faithful day one of the mechanics ( not my friend ) pulled the plugs on a towed in truck but forgot to disconnect the plug wire power and he cranked it over and one of the spark plug wires managed to light it off and was there excitement in the shop. The flames were shooting up high in an instant and there was this sign above that bay "Tune Up" and the sign was blackened !. I don't know how bad the damage was to the truck but luckily the building did not light on fire in any major way as they got it put out but I'll bet that was a bit too much excitement that day for the mechanic. Its good to have a water supply and a few capable fire extinguishers at the ready for those holy you know what moments.

Glad to see you back. I started giggling when I saw the petcock, I guess 1/8 NPT plugs comes in multiple varieties for some. PERA had a good webinar recently with Lake Speed on fuel being the enemy of your engine. Refreshing to see quality workmanship and repairs done right to OE spec.

I love Lake Jr. His enthusiasm for the industry and the latest cutting edge tech is inspiring. I’m about ready to hit the buy button on a Sunnen CV 16 because I’m tired of hearing I don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ve been doing this for 30 years, bla, bla….. lol

@@northwestlighttruckservice278 Lots of good information out there on modern cylinder bore plateau honing, not so many doing it! Hard to find automotive machine shop anymore. Very good one right down road from me, but he won't touch a diesel and stays swamped with racing engines. He has been on the Hidden Horsepower podcast and is known as "Horsepower King". Luckily everything I overhaul is wet liner and use I use OEM parts.

Based on what you found on the other side after you shot this video, would you suspect one or more of the hold down bolt holes had some fluid in it and possibly was torqued down as per the how the torque wrench would react to a oil/fluid partly filled hole, yet in reality anything but torqued, I guess that would mean they were idiots anyway you slice it !. That reminds me when my brother had his EGR fail and had it towed to a shop that specialized in Ford diesels, they did the EGR delete theme and the ARP studs and so on. However my brother only went about 80 miles after the repair and noticed it was blowing smoke out the pipe. Once again ( and that is with a camper on the truck both times ) towed back to town and they found a tear in one of the injector orings. Must have gotten damaged they figured as they slid it into the bore and yes they covered that issue. The engine has worked fine ever since so a good chance they must have torqued the injector bolts down properly, not that it has a pile of miles on it though.

I would say probably nothing to do with oil in the bolt hole, more likely just not torqued properly. I check the rest of em and was able to move the torque wrench before it hit 24 ft lbs.

@@northwestlighttruckservice278 Crappy workmanship in a nutshell it would seem, unfortunately there is a lot of that which goes on.
