I spent two days shooting my new Mandarin Duck Devourer 2 piece Take Down Longbow and missing everything I was shooting at all because of one little item... Watch the video to see what that item is... Thanks for Watching!!!
Thanks this makes good sense. Rest the loser limb tip on top of our boot or shoe is the easy fix. I had one of these rubber protectors on my recurve when I was a kid and it didn’t affect anything performance-wise. And yes it protected the lower limb tip. However, it covered up the string loop so I didn’t see it to notice the gradual damage being done to the string by the right angle edges of the bow limb edges. This was a USAC All American recurve - with no limb tip overlays. Long story short, it finally cut through the string and the string busted at the shot. Same as dry firing a bow. Fortunately no harm done to my recurve. I then learned to just keep an eye on the limb tips and all has been fine ever since. I try to never put the bow tip on the ground.
I make my tip protectors out of deer skin. There is a hole in the protector so that the string is not covered other than the back side of the loop. This prevents interference with the mechanics of the string and still protects the tip. They do wear out but it takes only 15 minutes to make one.
I just took my well tuned ILF bow, that was tuned with one of these suckers on it. I pulled it off and my groups opened up 6-8” more! I just re-tuned with it off, and it will stay that way now!
Yep... I took them all .... off my bows. Tip protectors seem like a good idea to me. But, I was thinking it was a weight issue. A little extra weight.. right on the end of a limb and none on the top limb. You take care of your bow... and stay mindful. You don't need a tip protector. If you use your bow for a walking stick... then maybe you do. I personally, don't need them. I first noticed something on my Bodnick MowHawk Longbow... it wasn't even hard (heavy) plastic... like some are. It was soft swade leather... but it threw that bow off balance. Good Video.
Tips of limbs and center of string are critical to bow performance. A steep lesson, but great you know now! Best way to save a tip is glue on super thin antler laminated on or... just go without!
I use tip protectors on all my bows without any problems! But You have to readjust your nock point after putting them on! The weight on the lower tip changes the limb timing! People tune there Bows before they put them on and then they wonder why the arrows fly bad!
I’ve been cutting my tip protectors short of the string notches for 50+ years now and no longer use that kind because they are much heavier than the black ones. Don’t add anymore weight than necessary to that bottom limb.
I use Plastic Dip rubberized coating. Dip the bottom tip deep enough just over the notch but not touching the string preventing the cured coating from sliding off.
i use the black ones, cut a slice about 1/2 in, no problems, i lean it against trees when fetching arrows,my old longbow is nicked up on lower tip from this practice
Unbelievable I just can’t believe that’s what caused an issue All these bogus claims and comments about a limb protector??? I been shooting trad bows for 25 years and have limb protectors on all my bows I’ve NEVER had an issue I believe y’all might just be whining about nothing,,,,, Someone somewhere may have said something y’all overheard and you latched onto it as a reason your shooting was off that day 😂
Get to the point! This could’ve been a 30 second video that would’ve made me want to watch more of your stuff. Nope. Also, Don’t bait people with a stupid title like that.
