If your Note 9 won't connect to your S-Pen, you might have a fake S-Pen. Here's how to tell. 

I recently purchased a used Galaxy Note 9 on eBay.
One of the features I love most about this phone is the S-Pen. With the Note 9, the S-Pen not only lets you write notes on your phone just like if you were using a pen or pencil. The S-Pen with the Galaxy Note 9 can also be used as a Bluetooth remote control for some features of the phone, such as the camera; you can use the S Pen button to remotely control the camera shutter.
Although my phone was in every other way in perfect condition, I could not get these Bluetooth features working with my phone. The phone just would not connect to the S-Pen which is equipped with a Bluetooth transmitter.
I finally got to thinking that maybe my phone didn't come with a real S-Pen. Maybe the S-Pen it came with was a knockoff.
And that's exactly what it was. Though it functioned in every way like an S-Pen as far as writing and drawing was concerned, it didn't have any Bluetooth features and it could never possibly connect to the phone.
So after suspecting that my S-Pen wasn't an OEM genuine one, I messaged the seller who insisted that he sent me a real S-Pen, but I let him know that the pen just doesn't work with the phone for any of the features that require Bluetooth. So he sent me back a replacement S Pen, which turned out to be an original S-Pen. Once I had the original S Pen, I was able to connect it to the phone and use all the cool features that a genuine S-Pen allows.
In this video I will show you how to tell a real S Pen from the fake one that I received. If you don't need any of the Bluetooth features though. I found that the fake S-Pen I have works just as well as a real S-Pen, and the fake ones are a lot cheaper which is nice.
Overall, if I had to purchase an S-Pen, would probably purchase a non original one because they cost so much less and even though they don't have the Bluetooth features, they work just like the original pen for writing and drawing. Just my opinion though. Perhaps an artist who's familiar with these pens could comment on the pressure sensitivity differences (if any) between the real and knockoff S-Pens.
