THANK YOU, now I unders5and.
@@Justin.Martyr I don't believe Baker's Chocolate is the same. It's the process. Cacao is less processed. You can ask this question to the internet and see what the general answer is.
You are doing a great job doctor. Your efforts inspire and motivate me and I'm sure others. The world needs more thoughtful and caring people like you. Thank you so much!
You might want to reconsider how much chocolate you are eating. Consumer Reports found dangerous heavy metals in chocolate from Hershey's, Theo, Trader Joe's, and other popular brands.
@@brianmcnary3960 Sorry to hear that. According to Healthline, coffee can enhance brain function,. boost metabolism and help you burn more fat, reduce disease risk of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, decrease diabetes risk for type 2 diabetes, improve liver health. by reducing the risk of liver diseases like cirrhosis and liver cancer , improve mental health and lower the risk of depression and suicide and caffeine
I eat a bit of pure cacao from the Philippines occasionally and cook with it when needing "chocolate" but will start consuming it more often. I don't mind the little bit of "bitter" taste at all.
Very clear, well referenced and explained, practical and do able for ordinary people interested in improving their health. Many thanks for this valuable content.
Thank you Dr. Van Dyken for sharing the information, I look to increase NO production by exercise and diet as well I understand some sun exposure helps too. After watching my parents decline, I'm more aware of slow changes in cardio health
I really appreciate your style of sharing. Your mouth rinse may not have increased NO, but it is better than traditional. I have my patients chew mint leaves or oregano leaves or basil leaves, then swallow or rinse with water. I don’t know if NO will be increased, but…… at least we are not destroying the bacteria to convert nitrate to nitrite, with traditional mouthwashes. Thanks for such excellence. By the way… I have been a dentist for 44 years, and first learning all about NO.
actually started just today a cup of warm cocoa with a pinch or cayenne pepper and 1/4 tsp of cinnamon. What would be really great is for people who have added Cocoa to their diets, some time ago to come tell us today what they have found in changes ? Too many of us find what we are looking for and fail to report back later what changes they seen or felt. I am included in that group, but maybe I can start a change in myself with this comment that might help others do the same. Thanks for sharing.
@@shan5445 I started the Cocoa with cayenne pepper a few days back and so far I am not seeing anything different, plus I added L-arginine and L- Citrulline pills. I have no medical issues, other than glaucoma, I eat mostly plant based, do not eat sugar and very little salt. I exercise regularly, But at age 70 its seems like a losing battle. but I will never not try. If you have some other thoughts please share.
Hi very good presentation, n very informative, your topics are well research, something that people needs for reference n truthful reporting, I will like a video on Benofotiamine
Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices.
I eat a 100mg bar of 90% dark chocolate every day. My skin and complexion have never looked better. I have a healthy diet and I exercise also and drink a gallon of water a day. So on top of this it's made my skin and complexion glow immeasurably.
Many thanks for your very informative channel. Cacao contains caffeine, caffeine in coffee can injure endothelial cells does cacao have the same effect?
I heard Dr. Beth Shirley, a nitric oxide researcher, say that the ENOS pathway is only 50% efficient after 40 years old and just 15% effective after 60. Does this mean that nitrate rich vegetables will work better for middle-aged and older people using the nitrate/nitrite/nitric oxide pathway?
In 2015 Massachusetts University laboratory patent a electronic spark device that generated Nitric Oxide although approved it was never developed, Can you imagine the cost of putting a pulmonary patient into an isolation bed with Oxygen and Nitric oxide piped to their bedside, well that was the fear of the shortage of hospital beds, the proof of concept is ready but funding is impossible 😀
Curious if alkalized Dutch Cocoa would have same effect? I buy Dutch Cocoa for the alkalizing effects. Anyone know is Dutch Cocoa will help with NO production?
I am going to eat some %100 Cocoa before my Martial arts workout today. I have been eating 90% or above for awhile now everyday. I am getting used to it.
I thought I was low on Nitric Oxide because I have low energy...though I have an ounce each day of DARK choolate. Perhaps the low energy is just Seasonal Affective Disorder as it not always sunny in Oregon, or maybe it's because I have low vitamin D... so I'm happy to find out my dark chocolate ( at least 72% but more often 86%) has NO.
@@outofthedoldrums the report shows that everyone tested had lead and cadmium just a few were better than others. This is not the type of food that people should be taking a chance on.
If you make it acidic wouldn't it harm the enamel of the teeth? That wouldn't be a great trade off to increase NO. Most of the enamel erosion is due to acidic foods or oral bacteria producing acids after eating certain foods we eat. In any case, respect for presenting negative data
......I developed a painful oxalate kidney stone from consuming raw Cacao. I better choice to increase Nitric Oxide levels in the body would be a sustained release L-Arginine or its precursor L-Citrulline.
You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health. Lower stress, reduce obesity and more exercise are key to a healthy life. Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world. Fast food and sugary drinks are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity. Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly. Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer. Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game. A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun. Every city should be a bicycle city. Speak up for bicycles in your community
My cardiologist has put me on an ultra low fat diet. So, I think any type of cocoa is out due to its fat contents. Also, I gather that if your endothelial are trashed due to any cardiac episodes then their NO function has diminished
Chocolate contains cocoa butter, which is high in saturated fat, yet one-third of chocolate's fat comes from stearic acid. Although it's a saturated fat, stearic acid does not raise LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) as do most other saturated fats.
Actually, not all chocolate/cacao is full of heavy metals. Even consumer reports agrees - certain brands are ok/recommended. Check out the full report. As to the funding - all the studies I cited are not funded by industry. One of the studies had a cacao drink donated to them to use, but the researchers and the study was not funded.
Yes, then they go on to tell you which chocolate brands/bars/powder have the lowest levels. They actually have recommendations and top picks for the products lowest in heavy metals.
@@outofthedoldrums I spent a lot in high end chocolate - lots of heavy metals. Speaking from years and years of experience.
