I have always thought that infinite got pulled into null space after he was defeated. My theory was that the ruby itself was alive and evil. It makes way more sense that Mephiles was pulling the strings. However, Sega rarely goes that deep in something that isn't a comic book, so it will probably never be confirmed.

This is actually a really interesting theory. It invites the possibility of something far more dark and serious happening behind the scenes and more dangers far greater than what Sonic and his friends have face before have yet to come. This actually makes me want to adapt this theory into my Sonic Forces fan comic I'm making and turn it into something much bigger.

My idea is that Dark Gaia is the Iblis remnant of Solaris, with some pieces of mephiles The time eater is one of the mephiles remnants of Solaris, with some Iblis The phantom ruby is the closest to what is left of pure mephiles, it has its own will and powers but it is incomplete and cannot manifest itself fully or use its powers fully, and as such is seeking out a host like infinite, and then going to track down its other remnants, it’s the reality manipulating part of mephiles while the time eater is the time manipulating part, one has the mind and consciousness, the other is a pure destructive force bent on destroying time

Sonic forces is still one of my favorite games. I am still a little upset about how they teased us into thinking there would be more dlc. I hope they make a sequel. I am not gonna read the comics until I know for sure they are cannon or not.

So, Mephiles is Thanos and Infinite is Ultron? Well, even if that’s not exactly the case, I really love this theory because it means that Mephiles, one of my favourite Sonic characters, is still alive. It could also give an explanation for why the 06 timeline came back in Generations. When Ellis blew out Solaras’ flame, that timeline was erased, but perhaps Mephiles was the one to bring it back so as to give Silver his confusion.

I love your theory and Mephiles is tied with Infinite for my fav Sonic villain. So I would love for both to come back. What I love about Infinite is the untapped potential he has and what the fans have done with him. It seems like Infinite has become the new Mephiles (a villain from a game that wasn't really liked, but the villain himself has a great following)

Absolutely fascinating! I'm reminded of a dark silver fanfiction I read a while ago... it makes me wander. If what your saying is true then it's possible that could explain infinites suddun and seemingly pathetic tantrum. Infinite came in contact with the phantom ruby *before* he officially meets shadow. If mephils was already linked to infinite in some way like say his emotions where somehow synced with mephilis's. That could provide a more realistic situation. So in essence if this what I suggest is so... shadow indirectly called Mephilies weak... which would explain his fit of anger. This also shows that Sega could really make things interesting if they brought back infinite and actually cared about explaining his character more thouraghly. :/

So having Shadow clean up his two biggest mistake's ever wad make more sens than it being Sonic. Or Silver. Don't you think? The two hate Shadow the most out of the 3 hedgehog.

I really hope with all the changes going on with yt algorithms, they work in your favor. I'm sure glad I was recommended this one. Seems like I've been getting smaller channels in my recs lately. Nice to see a positive Sonic channel with some cool thoughts and theories to boot. And yeah, Infinite definitely needs to return. There's so much potential there. And with your theory, it would be a great way to bring back Mephiles, too. I really hope Sega/Sonic Team don't continue to waste such cool characters. It'd be a great way to keep a little continuity with the series.

The thing about this theory is that it fucking makes sense to such a high level, like, if this is true, they could be setting up for mephiles comeback, and boy it would be THE greatest story build up in years! Because the way I think whenever seeing a new villain is oh amazing, but sonic will win in the end, for mephiles however, this was not the case, considering I played sonic 06 at a rather young age, everything about mephiles just disturbed me, now that I think more about, mephiles never really wanted world domination or anything of that sorts, he literally wanted to erase existence! Now I'm pretty sure that someone with that kind of thoughts, and as unpredictable as him, deserves an amazing comeback in a more recent sonic game

My idea, he sets his sights on revenge and he and eggman collect the chaos emeralds in order to supercharge the phantom ruby, with all collected the new phantom infinite goes to take sonic and his friends down. Eggman would rather take over the world but infinite does not betray him, more like he is going off on his own now but he might come back to help in the future. There could be a cool cutscene showing infinite on a tall tower recapping the events and losing his mind, not a I AM NOT WEAK moment but more punching the floor and walls around him while screaming he hasn’t changed. It could be cool because now it is personal and instead of saving the world sonic has to save himself

Somewhat related, Infinite has gone against all three of the hedgehogs as well. Claiming that fighting Silver "wasnt part of my agenda", this could had been because Mephelis knows Silver can be manipulated and to leave him out for a later plan or pick them off one by one and break hope. Because frankly if Sonic or Shadow ideally Silver would take lead but that kind of pressure can break a person especially living up to those too, in this time Silver can be easily manipulated.

And nah, you're good man. Forces had a lot of little details that are easily overlooked because of how quick the game can be beat. But if you really look into the story, especially the Japanese story without corny English dialogue, there's subtle details that if explored, could have greatly improved the story. But, of course, a lot of people don't play Sonic games for the story, so the creators don't care put to much emphasis on overall quality.

Sorry for the comment spam, but to elaborate on the details thing, on my first playthrough of Forces, it didn't register with me that Infinite actually murdered a lot of people. The game made it seem like they were just knocked out, but when I looked at the Japanese cutscene of the avatar's flashback, the screams of the people he attacked sounded pretty horrific. And then there's the dialogue where he says he only let the avatar live, as in not get killed, so that they could go and spread panic and fear to the others. He was a pretty ruthless villain, yet people just disregard him or he's kind of been relegated to being an 'edgelord' or that 'I'm not weak' meme. Anyway, he's probably my favorite Sonic villain since Chaos. Where was I going with this? Oh yes, subtle details getting overlooked, but when looked at closely there's more to the story. Damn it would be awesome if this (or something similar) was the explanation to phantom ruby's origin. Great sleuthing dude, I'm subbed now so I'm looking forward to whatever content you have in store. :)

I like the idea/theory that Infinite knew the Rookie sometime before his corruption and was their friend but Robotnik turned him into a weapon. It would have added more depth to Infinite.

I always interpreted the lines as infinites self turmoil the pain of losing basically his only family (Jackal squad) and "I can't resist" being his inability to resist power he will do whatever it takes to get revenge even if it means destroying the world. Cool theory though I really like the idea of mephiles creating the Phantom ruby

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I've been trying to come up with a solid background for the AU Rewrite I'm making, and up til now, I've been banking on the Nocturnus Clan, Black Arms, and another (original) alien species making a really bad mistake. But now?... I'm torn between that story and Mephiles. However, if I involve Mephiles *with* the Black Arms... Hmm. @@Ranfriendss because god has cursed me for my hubris and my work is never finished but seriously, I used to follow the UTMV crowd, and although it didn't come up much bc the focus was more on making interesting team-ups, rivalries, drama, high-stakes hero-villain plots, etc., my favorite bits were always lore-centric. Because of that, I got super into things like the Swap and Fell bases, since they were more or less blank slates with one guiding theme to set up history for, or the Dream brothers and Reaper AU, because they were already based primarily in that lore-heavy line of thought so when I got into the Sonic franchise, it immediately struck me how *disorganized* everything was - and I'm not upset about it, because obviously that can be fun in its own right and I have no idea how much time and effort goes into making this big-budget cash cow walk. But nonetheless, I wanted to figure out what it might look like if it *was* more cohesive. So, I started an AU, tying together as many mainline games, comic arcs, and spin-offs as I could, while creating a solid background for worldbuilding that would allow it all to take place in one timeline, albeit with a lot of modifications to make the story flow smoother... And, of course, just for good ol' wish fulfillment. Let Shadow have a support Chao 2k20 and then I got emotionally invested so I just kept making stuff up and have posted basically nothing bc I'm plagued with that nigh-universal dilemma of Art Procrastination, bc I never feel like it's "ready" to be shown off... Oops

Pyrite The Sand Gem If I may offer a word of advice, sometimes it’s better to just take the leap and release it even if you’re not 100% comfortable with it. No point in doing all that hard work it no one sees it right? You’re always gonna be more critical of your own stuff than other people, so it’s best to not let that stop you from sharing that with the world

this is very similar to my own head cannon but I personally think the time eater and ruby are progressively diminished forms of Mephiles and infinite isn't a puppet so much as a new host to be used for Mephiles to use to return with. I prefer the idea of him being on the back foot after solaris' defeat, he's struggling to survive, actively trying to return in some form or another

Sonic Forces is in dire need of a sequel...there are more questions then answers. Where did the Phantom Ruby come from and who created it? Is there really more to Infinite then we are led to believe? What happened to Dr. Robotnik after he was defeated? (No I don't count his appearance in Team Sonic Racing. That's a spinoff.) It's really a shame the closest thing we got to a sequel to Sonic Forces was Sonic Mania Encore but really all that covers is what happened to Classic Sonic World Sonic after he returned to his world and since the other Sonic had really little to do with the plot in forces outside of fan service for people who played Mania do we really care? Probably not.

I do love this theory but it half makes sense The reason I said half is because Mephiles is gone and Saga promise to never bring him back so my theory who might be the puppet master is DR EGGMAN NEGA you probably know who he is he is the arch nemesis of silver the hedgehog he is from the future and he is Eggman descendant and it will also make sense. Where the Phantom ruby came from because the troubled child living t phantom ruby came from because it can travel to different dimensions and you know who is the master of that Eggman Nega yes he’s also enemies with blaze the cat he even tried destroy the world twice so make sense why infinite tried to throw the sun ☀️ in the resistance faces but hey is just my theory

MetalSonicBoom 123 Interesting theory, I never considered Eggman Nega, but it is possible. However, even though Sega said they wouldn’t bring back Mephiles, they also said Classic Sonic wouldn’t come back after Generations, they change their minds a lot.

There is not without a doubt that it was The End. His powers and color scheme is too identical to the theme of Sonic Frontiers. Fake realities? Null Space? Corruption? You cannot tell me nothing checks off.

Ok I don't agree with this theory for a few known reasons. 1:There is no known evidence that Mephiles created the phantom Ruby and it think it is Created by Eggman (The one form classic Sonic's dimension) mainly because he knows how to use it so easily 2: Infinite and Mephiles don't have the same ablites Mephiles and shot dark energy and balls form his hands travel through time make clones of himself and create living shadows and fly, while Infinite make illusions fly shot red cubes and send people to null space. 3: I think the lyrics I can't resist means that Infinite can't resist his angry towards Shadow. 4: Not just Mephiles was erased form existence's but everything in 06 was to excluding the characters involved with the solaris project, So for Mephiles to come back his other haft Eplise would need to come back as well and the comic you show at 5:00 is not cannon

If the dark half separated from the flame before it was blown out then he’d have no form and no way to ever become a god again. Leaving him just so angry and unable to win. So he’d have to manipulate realities using the phantom ruby.

Basically the light of the flame was destroyed Leaving the darkness if it in a state where it's goal is impossible to fullfil and what option is there when nothing matters other then to destroy everything so no one else wins (time eater and phantom Ruby's extreme levels of destruction across multiple timelines/universes)

I don’t think it could be bringing him back for his punishment because despite people mocking infinite he was the best sonic villain we had in a while he DEFEATED sonic and had the resistance on the ropes until they were able to save sonic hell if he didn’t drop the prototype ruby he would of won! My guess is mephiles is saving infinite for a future plan possibly for when he makes his big return

And sins Infinite and Mephiles hate Shadow so much. Then maybe if it's true, then the game that shows his return, then the game won't be a Sonic game, but another Shadow game. So this war may not be over, in the end, it won't be the Sonic Heroes who saves the day, becouse the'll just be in there way. Because the prime target, is Shadow the hedgehog him self.

Thegalactiknight I’d rather not say what the theory is about, don’t wanna ruin the surprise. But I will say that it’s something the fan base as a whole has been pondering for a while. As for the CD connection, I think it’s possible that it came up while designing Infinite, but I don’t think it holds much meaning in terms of his overall character/backstory.

This seems kinda like a parody video to be honest. Your theory seems to ignore any conflicting evidence such as it being heavily implied that Eggman called Infinite back to use the ruby himself while you also make up abilities for characters to support your theory. Mephiles has never shown the ability to create full on illusions and Silver and Shadow has not been shown to remember sonic 06 though crisis city for some reason still exists in at least one timeline. It is also worth mentioning that it would be out of character for Mephiles (if the time eater is part of him in sonic generations) to let sonic live and especially torture him as the only person he shows strong feelings towards is shadow after getting trapped by him in the past. Mephiles has also been shown in the past to act before the good guys even gets to know what's going on. Mephiles is my favorite character in the series so i really like the idea of him coming back, but i can't ignore that your theory seems a bit uneducated in terms of sonic lore. please correct me if i'm wrong about anything. I'm just as human as you are and the sonic lore is so huge
