Both are really great but I think the ace pro has more dynamic range in low light settings. Really can’t go wrong here.

Yes, I think it's at the point where if you'd watch them separately you'd never know the difference. Both have their strong points in low light, and both beat the Hero 12.

@@mikhail823 Well, I wouldn't call it a focus issue, but rather a minimum focus distance that some of us ignore. I've learnt where the sweet spot is and I'm always in focus now.

It does a really good job when it comes to the stabe in low light, but I'm guessing that's a little bit of magic when it comes to processing, whilst pixel peeping you can see the image suffers from softness and this almost kind of pixel mashing look. The Action 4 has more brightness and can see in darker situations, but its stabe goes to hell if you're moving around at night.

I’ve learned that you can get near perfect EIS in low light on DJI OA4 by setting the white point to somewhere between 5000-5500K instead of on automatic. Haven’t tried it myself yet as I only learned this yesterday but if anyone tries it or has done it before, I’d love to hear your experiences - to whoever may read this comment lol Thank you so so much, I’ve asked for low light comparisons on other peoples videos and you are once again way ahead of me xD

I'll have to try that out and see how well it does. The AWB at night needs to be spot on, especially with all the coloured lights, so 5600k might be something I'll have to try, I have it set on just about all my other cameras, so why not! Lol, thanks!

Those who care for night time videos want to walk to show the streets and people without the ugly EIS jitters. So the Ace pro looks 10x better than DJI in the automatic mode. If you use your footage for a walking at night style of channel, most viewers would leave the video seeing the DJI jitters at every step while they would keep watching the AcePro footage. If using manual settings on the DJI can fix the jitters, then is worth to compare them again in those settings.

Simple as that. It’s unwatchable when you have micro jitters everywhere, I agree the colours look nicer but you can get tiny improvements on ace pro in post, you can’t fix jittery mess in post.

looking at that big fingerprint on the insta's screen, you basically ruined its footage...and I am not a big fan of that oa4's jittering, the ace pro does do a better job on highlight control and stabilization; please be mindful when you are doing the comparison, this is not an authentic but unfair comparison

I think the thumbprint is pretty authentic, who out of us has never touched the lens on an action camera, I mean they're made for getting dirty. Yes, the jittering on the DJI is hard to watch, it's like bad audio, makes me want to turn it off.

A big point that ppl forget to mention, is that the acepro can only shoot only in 8 bit color & no Log picture profile, while the action 4 shoots in 10 bit & has a log option.

Yeah and it’s a huge difference! 8 bit= 256 RGB Colours while 10 bit = to 1024 RGB Colours, which means smoother gradients, less noise, less banding, less blotches.

The Ace pro with no lens removal is a definitely no-go for me. But the improve stab in low light is very nice and obvious over the action 4 in the setting you choose. Would you be nice to do a comparaison in low light but with EIS prioity on action 4 (If i remember correctly it exist on it) ? Or a 1/200 minimum shutter speed (also think it exist on it) ? If the action 4 manage to have a good low light stab even if it s a little darker, it s a total win for action 4 imo. On other subject, I have watch a lot of Ace pro review and I really find most of the time that the footage is ugly, the over sharpen is very agressive, over saturation too (maybe less) and most of the time you also have very crushed black, I hate this look. On standard setting with low sharpness or in log, the action 4 really manage nice quality imo. TY.

Actually it's the same system like in GoPro, but they put some glue on it. If you use the force, and remove the glue, it's removable.

Cause he’s stating the facts and basically the insta ace pro is way too hyped and expensive when you compare footage quality of its competitor(s). Maybe they can tweak it in firmware updates to toggle the AI influence better, in the future… so far I’m disappointed by the glorification of reviewers when it’s not actually that good…

Wow, I don’t know what to think of all other RU-vidrs who tested this before and showed the Insta 360 camera coming out a stop or two better than DJI & GoPro. Did they intentionally deceive us as well or their none production units were actually better?

these are look a like with a little diffirent in saturation , action 4 with a bit higher saturation in red and yellow and ace pro had a bit lower normal saturation .i think DJ action 4 had image enhancement make its set in high EV.

In the past, action cameras were compared during mountain bike rides or jumps to the water. Now 99% of reviewer films their dogs, garages and walks in the parks.

Yes, that's correct, nowadays few people use them for action. I think the larger screen on the Ace Pro is no doubt a positive side for vlogging.

I can do that, however, it's like comparing the Hero 12 to the Ace Pro in low light, the Pocket 3 is rolling with a 1" sensor and has a completely different field of view, it's a quite a different type of camera, but sure, I've got a load of questions about that.

I find that the Action 4 footage looks quite bad especially with the stabilisation. Yes, in some parts, it looks brighter but this is offset by the bad image quality. The Ace Pro definitely looks better to my eyes here.

They both have strong points. The Action 4 is brighter and sees in the dark better, the Ace Pro has better control of the stabilisation in low light. Take away the stabilisation and the Action 4 will come out on top.

4:30 The low light stabilization of Ace Pro is no match to action 4 if you check the jittering of the neon light (dom) of the bog building in the background. But action 4 has more colors in post and less wide lens distortion.

I can agree with this thought process. However, Insta is offering free "no questions asked" lens replacement for a year after purchase of an Ace Pro. I do agree giving creators a different version is def not ok, and I do not agree with that. That does frustrate me as well when watching review videos. @@Slashingthrough

You can replicate the better stabilisation by manually pushing the shutter speed up on the Action 4, which will result in a similarly darker image.

Shutter blur on the action 4 in a few spots , very minor though. Ace pro colours are weird in some spots .

good job, the action 4 is better in very bright places and in very dark, you do not make me a favor to compare dlog-m anyway, i think action 4 have a settings that priorotise the stability over the image at low light do you have try that also?

It does seem the Action comes out on top, and with stabe on it would look at ton better. Yeah, I forgot the DLog-M, next time. The stabe on the Ace Pro wins, hands down, the image wins on the Action 4.

Did you need to clean the AcePro camera? If not then the lens flares are pretty bad and it almost had a smudged look to it. I'm starting to think I should stay with my Action 4!

Well, it's possible that when I film these tests I touch the lens, I try not to, but it might happen. However, being action/vlog cameras, I'm guessing if they don't get dirty then it's not very authentic, right?

It looks to me like the Ace Pro has moisture inside the lens cover that is causing the picture to had a smudgy effect. Also, I'm curious as to what ISO settings you had on the cameras.

Both had very clean lenses, all was on auto. The Action 4 is in my books the winner. Turn off stabe, stick that thing on a gimbal and it's over.

I have seen that flickering on other Ace Pro reviews, it’s kinda funny when it happens in the middle of their paid glorification of the Ace pro.

@@independentmind6345 Yeah, I think it's about the auto-flicker, it has trouble with some light sources sometimes. If I have it on 50hz it seems to work fine. Maybe the auto option needs an update.

The blown highlights are killing me on the DJI. What would the image look like if it were exposed for highlights? I'm just curious on how much shadow detail would be lost. I've never owned an action camera before btw.

These things have tiny sensors compared to your full frame mirrorless cameras, so they really have a hard time during low light. The Ace Pro does such a good job due to the A.I. in camera processing. The Action 4 does a good job, but as you see it fails in the highlights, has more noise and can't stabilise as well as the Ace Pro.

Biggest concern is still the lack of a lens guard for the ace pro. This needs to be fixed first before i will decide any purchase.

Insta360 offering 100% free "no questions asked" lens replacement for the 1st year after purchase. I've had every iteration of Go Pro's, Action 3, 4, Insta360 X1, X2, and now the Ace Pro. In the 10+ years i've used an action cam for dirtbiking, motovlogs, skateboarding, bmx, surfing, etc, i've never once, not even close damaged a lens. {EDITED} Thank you for your response, Phillip

@xundeadxempirex Did you know that I’m also an Insta360 affiliate, actually longer than I’ve been a DJI affiliate. I’m just saying what I see and feel. The lens is a problem, and I’ve been gathering information, from various sources. It was meant to be a removable lens, but the test models were causing leakage, so Insta either could push back its launch many months or drop this as a fully sealed camera. I do appreciate they’re offering free lens replacement, I think that puts a lot of peoples minds at ease.

I appreciate the calm demeanor in which you handled this. As a consumer trying to get accurate reviews, I feel there is a lot of biased reviews which is only beneficial, imho, to people who are loyal to a specific brand and don't get an accurate account of what we're looking at. @@PhillipSkraba the free lens replacement is only valid for the 1st year. Next you have to ship your camera to nearest insta360 service point, which means your camera is gone for a few weeks. Also the shipping costs are for the customer. So is this a good offering? No no no.

You're welcome, I'm a fan of showing people how things really look. Here you can notice a couple of things, the Action 4 is brighter, but falls apart in stabilisation, whereas the Ace Pro is a touch darker but controls stabe with A.I. technology, giving it a head start over the DJI. I'm playing more with the Ace Pro, even right now, I'm doing a time-lapse as I get ready for bed to see how all its features work.

Its not that the ace pro is bad, it has excellent out of cam quality, the down side is sometimes we want more control of our video style instead of the hdr look all the time.

DJI is better but jittery, AP is much smoother, hmmm... this is a hard one. But some areas, AP is better then DJI with exposure and still consistently smoother video, where as DJI is 'cleaner' but framerate is jittery so I guess which is more important both can be fix via post production. But again, look at the background detail, AP has that hands down with this camera as well, hmmmm. with the 8k being kind of goofy on this camera, do you think with the 5 nm processor and the 8k sensor that it would very be improved in future firmware upgrades? I'm curious.

Manually increasing the shutter speed eliminates the jitter, but makes image stop or two darker.

@@kaltask1 why compromise if you don't have to is all I'm saying. You make one thing better but the other is worse, if you had to do that to competing camera, it would be a negative right? It's a catch 22, increase shutter for better quality but lose light, decrease shutter for better light but lose quality.

Myself, I went for Action 4, as for low light I still carry the Pocket 3 as it does better in low light even at 60fps than Ace Pro does at 25fps and if you pan too fast at 25fps you get nasty blur which I hate. So in my opinion Action cams with low frame rate, I don't class as action cams any more, especially as their stabilization goes out the window anyway and in the case of Ace Pro, although its stability may be slightly better it is at expense of picture quality and blurring in the darker regions, good for daytime only, still, unfortunately.

The Hero series and Action series are fantastic action cameras, but I wouldn't pigeon hole the Ace Pro as an action camera, but rather a vlogging camera, and viewing it that way I'm a lot more at ease using it.

Well, if we turn stabe off on both cameras, the extra low light brightness on the Action 4 would win. I've never tried at 60fps, but I might give it a go.

At least some clips I saw they where quite dark, but no noise in the image. It was as dark as hero 12, which had really noisy image.

Thanks for the response. For me the image stabilizer is essential. I would then use the pocket 2 or 3 for lower light but field of view is less on those. I had the action 4 for a few weeks and made many indoor videos with it and the action 3 at the same time. The action 3 was darker but did not show the same stabilization wobbling, so I used the action 3 footage. I think the Ace Pro will do what I need and bridge the gap more between low light and using a pocket 2. Thanks for all your videos i enjoy them.@@PhillipSkraba

A very good test, thank you. I was also considering buying the camera, even though I already have the Action 4 and Pocket 3. But I don't see any advantages here, but a lot of disadvantages compared to the Action 4. And in poor lighting, the Insta will probably clearly lose out to the Pocket 3.

It does have better stabilisation at night by darkening the image, and it has hdr, whereas the Action 4 opted for wider dynamic range, which I prefer.

To be honest, i don’t always use the low light image enhancement on OA4. I think it’s better natural looking when you prioritize EIS in shooting lowlight and just custom set the sharpness and noise red.. that’s just my impression.. 🫶🏻👌🏻💯

Yeah, I think so too, but here I wanted to level the playing field and see which camera actually looks better, and it's not easy as one is brighter, one has better stabe. If you were to turn the stabe off though, which I do a lot at night, the Action 4 is the King of low light.

It will depend on your settings and how much light the sensor allows. you can use the included night time glassless lens that come with the dji, giving you more fstops.@@PhillipSkraba

@@grahamjones7070 ? 4:35 on Zoom in the background where the mini van is on the left, vehicles are more defined on Ace Pro, also, look at the hanging christmas lights on the light poles, they are also more defined, both colors are off imo, DJI is over saturated and Ace is under saturated but I'm a detail person, I can alway fix color post edit.

Great video. I'm really struggling with DJI A4 results when compared to my GoPro10. Perhaps that's just a reflection that I've been using gopro cameras for such a long time and I know them back to front! I just turn on my gopro and film... it always works! Problems I hate about my gopro are over heating (fecking nightmare... hold in the start button for 10 seconds to reset!) and shimmering (aliasing) in many scenarios. Despite your negativity (and they are much appreciated!) I far (by a long way) prefer the images you are getting from the Ace Pro.

An incredible number of people say that the Insta360 ace pro is absolutely king in low light. Yes, it seems that the ace pro has slightly better stabilization. But the picture quality is more or less exactly the same. Shame on those who had the camera before it was released, must be allowed to say that they lied. I will get my ace pro in a few days. If this is what I get. Then it will be returned after some tests

Oh my....! The stabilization on the Action 4 is way worse than the Insta360 Ace Pro. For each footstep we can see the lights trembling....either walking or running. The colours are more natural in Action 4 though.

Your image quality look way different from everything I've seen comparing these cameras on the Ace Pro. Dark, very little detail, soft, etc. It doesn't help that the Ace Pro looks like it has a smudge or condensation on the lense. Instead of having the same settings on each camera, how about the best settings FOR EACH camera. That would make more sense. BTW, the stablization is terrible on the Action 4, in this test.

I hate to say it because I really have hated the hype for the Ace Pro, but as far as image is concerned, the colours look beautifully graded straight out of camera on RU-vid to me, its possibly over sharpened, but hard to tell on RU-vid. In this videos the Ace Pro looks more like a larger camera image to me than the Action 4 image. Look at the street light at the end on both cameras (6:33), lights just seem to be flaring on the Action 4 but the Ace Pro sees detail in the bright lights?

I'm right there with you. It's not always easy to say, hey, I was wrong, but I was and I wasn't 😂 The Ace Pro is not a GoPro killer, I'm standing strong on that, it is also not the King of Action. The Ace Pro is by far the best vlogging camera I have ever used, and so IF Insta360 were to label it The Vlog King, I'd be right there egging them on, however, I think all the confusion and bad blood came about when they labelled and marketed it wrongly causing hype of the wrong nature. The Ace Pro, after using it for a few days, and looking at it in a completely different mindset, as a vlog camera, is so far excellent.

Ayo the ace pro is better BUT by how much? Is it worth the trade for your peace of mind that if you scratch the lens, you can just buy a replacement? Is it worth the peace of mind you get knowing that the tape to make your screen work isn't exposed? I hope next year they come out with ace pro 2 with changeable lens cover, no flip screen, just dual screens like the dji action 4 and the go pro 12, 10 bit. OR dji action 5 with an AI chip. Even with that statement, i know i want more improvements for the ace pro vs the dji, i just want the same improved low light (and maybe the ai warp... it's fun and if you can apply it to photos too, that would be HILARIOUS)

From 5:57 on with the darker area, do you not find the DJI over saturated? doesn't look natural to me, and also, look closely behind you, the background the jittering and blurring on the DJI is bad, it's actually giving me a headache, I'll say AP is the winner overall. Unusable footage, imo. I would never use that footage in any situation. Its jittery literally the whole video except in higher lit areas.

I’ve had a few days playing with the Ace Pro with my family, and sure, it was hyped to be a GoPro killer, the King of Action, but it’s not. It appeals to a much larger audience, to me, it’s a vlogging camera, a camera for people who don’t care about action sports, about 10-bit, Log footage etc, it’s for those that want camera to social media without a complicated workflow. That’s how my conclusion, and I’m on board with that mindset.

AcePro is a winner in most scenarios. Dynamic range, zoom, low light and stabilisation without motion blur are much better on insta 360. But not ideal, 06:42..
