Just put a field find 302 and swapped into a blown up 289. Tore them both apart and Frankensteined the best parts. I followed your videos and it runs great. Thanks a million.

Nice sounding Stang. Enjoyed watching your 289 rebuilding series. I do a lot of wrenching myself but wished I had an ‘Alf’ mechanic nearby that specializes in older Mustangs. I have a 68 coupe with a 331 stroker, 5 speed, rack and pinion steering and a 3:44 Eaton TruTrac rear. She scoots along pretty good. 😊

Hi Alex! Great stuff and info and tips as always. I did the sign of the cross over the engine at start up for your Comp flat tappet cam, lol Hope you don't get one one their bad ones that many have reported and wiped out in no time. Take care. Cheers from Motown.

Lol oh you noticed that! No I just delayed the release of all the videos because it's been a huge struggle for me to keep up on the work I have and yet still film videos that still need to be edited and uploaded. I find being able to post consistently is good for the channel and gives me more time to film and edit.

But ya luckily no camshaft issues. It makes me wonder how many of the issues they have are because people don't use the right lube or break-in procedures.

Kind of an older comment, but it's pretty much the same as a 289. Just use all the external parts for your year of 289, they'll bolt right up. The only extra things you need are: A 50oz flywheel(or flexplate) and harmonic balancer (balancer needs the correct # of bolt holes for your crank pulley) and a plug for the driver side oil fill hole. NPD, CJs, etc all carry the conversion harmonic balancers and speedway has the flywheel/flexplates.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos from start to completion of this 289 engine build. I have followed it in rebuilding my 289 this past few months. Keep up your videos. After watching this start up, I have 2 questions I would like your response to. First, I noticed that the pcv valve was routed onto the front of the carb. Can it be installed directly to the intake manifold? And second, I am installing a M5R2 5 speed transmission out of a 98 F150. Do I use the 289 separator plate or the F150 plate?

The best place for the PCV valve is a manifold vacuum source at the carburetor's base or spacer plate. The reason for that is so the crankcase pressures get recycled and evenly distributed throughout all 8 cylinders. Some carbs have a large port in the front and some have it in the rear. I'm afraid I will not know the answer to your separator plate question.
