Question folks, I purchase ONN. antenna and the motor power is a coaxial and the antenna is a coaxial, the instructions do not say how to power the motor and the antenna at the same time while the antenna is high up in the air. By looking at it I would split the coaxial signal to power motor and antenna at the same time or NO motor control. Any thoughts from you experienced folks that know more than I? thanks in advance

I purchased this one 4 years ago and it picked up 3 pbs stations and 2 network channels in my rural area. After 1st year a dead oak branch fell on it and it broke the rotor. I had to super glue the antenna back to the rotor and rotor no longer worked. It still picked up the 5 channels though, just had to manually turn it at times. This winter a windstorm took the whole thing down and it broke off the 3 rear aluminum antennas. I just put it back into service and it still picks up the 5 channels. Not bad for such a cheap antenna. However, I am looking to go to a stronger antenna and mount it to my chimney much higher in the hopes of picking up more channels.

Homemade chow, how did you get it from the roof to attic, and attic to tv? I’ve ran coax in my house but now I’m trying to do it on a relatives house, it needs to be more concealed
@homemadechow3532
@homemadechow3532 4 года назад
Hi Scott. I ran the Coax down the chimney and used cable ties, the kind that have a screw, and secured that to the house. I then ran it under the eave and through a hole that was already created by the old cable line into my attic. There, I connected it to a splitter that was originally being used for the old cable company to send the signal to the TVs.

I got one of these the other day and installed it. It works but the "150 miles" printed on the box refers to the range diameter with the antenna located in the middle. The radius of reception is more like 75 miles. The furthest stations I can pick up after the sun sets is about 75 miles (Detroit TV stations). During the day I can only pick up the local stations which are about 20 to 30 miles from my house.

Yes, it's impossible to pick up stations beyond a certain distance due to the curvature of the earth. Placing the antenna higher, or living on a hill can help with greater distances.

The controller signal is strong enough to control the motor from a farthur distance. I had a power source located in the attic next to my coax splitter. It was just easier for me that way.
@JodBronson
@JodBronson 5 лет назад
I ran mine with a 50 Feet Cable..., it seems to be working fine. Although there is no need to Rotate, since you will forget the Position of the Antenna anyway. Best is to point it towards a "major" Tower, and just let it sit there and believe if or not, you will get more stable Channels. Most major TV Stations, they rent the Towers out to broadcast their TV Signals. "Only" local of specific City Channels have specific location. But like PUBLIC PBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, ION, QVC, ETC, ETC...... They rent the Towers all over the place to broadcast.

Im curious as to whete the motor receives its power from? Is it getting power through the coax cable? The adapter cord isnt long enough to run from an outlet to the motor on the unit. It just runs from the outlet to the control box. Or does the motor have batteries. I am to install one of the onn brands just like this one but i know they cant be expecting cystomers to have extension cords running up the sides of their houses especially as they recommend mounting the antenna 30' above the ground. The channels looked pretty good from what i could tell on your video. Congrats.

@homemadechow3532
@homemadechow3532 6 лет назад
Hi Robert. thanks for the advice on adding the connections to the video. I should have added that. I agree that the cable supplied with the antenna is quite short. I had to by a longer one. Also, where my splitter was located in the attic, I would have had to run a 150 ft cable from the antenna to the main room where the tv is then another 100+ ft cable back to the splitter then the signal would have had to travel back another 100 feet to my tv in the family room. That was way too much. Just easier for me to install it in the attic. Also, I have a very strong signal where I live for all the local channels. I've never needed to move the antenna once. Very happy with the product. Thanks for the feedback. I hope this helped.
@DP-hy4vh
@DP-hy4vh 5 лет назад
The short cable on the back of the box connects to the TV. There's two connectors on the back of the box, one for the antenna, one for a second TV. My antenna came with a 33ft cable but I used a roll of my own coax cable so I could install a grounding block to protect the antenna from lightning as well as grounding the mast with a separate wire.

Could you use a pole and bracket bought from the hardware store or does it have to be the one that comes with it for the rotator? Walmart has this antenna for $60 or $20 without the pole.
@homemadechow3532
@homemadechow3532 5 лет назад
You can use another pole. Just be sure there's a hole in the top to allow for the set screws to go through. This way it won't blow off in a strong wind and it will stay still so the motor can rotate. A Los be sure the diameter of the antenna pole is the same as the one supplied. Good luck. I still love this antenna and the reception.

SOS! Help! May b mine is mis-complete or I'm a total idiot (the latter is more likely) but I can't secure that piece of bent pipe 2 the plastic base of the motor. The diameter of plastic opening is probably 50% bigger then the pipe diameter. Even when I align the screws with the bigger '3rd hole' (which I assume is for that purpose, the other 2 is 4 securing the pipe 2 the mounting bracket) the antenna still wobbles... How did u manage to tighten it stable?

@@homemadechow3532 yeah, it's the round 'bracket' (?) @ the bottom of the motor base, plastic 1, your screws r orange-capped. the 'J pole' (they call it in the manual) is supposed 2 fit it snug (I guess). but my J pole is 1" while the bracket's inner dia is 1 3/16". your screws r @ 90° while mine r @ 180° (across the bracket). may b that allows u 2 'puss' the pole inside the plastic bracket against it. mine just give me 2 points of contact and it doesn't work. if i had 3 screws (like some Christmas tree bases do) then it would work, but u need screws @ an angle, not opposite each other, 2 hold the pole tight.

@homemadechow3532
@homemadechow3532 5 лет назад
Hi John, If you're referring to the two grey plastic reflectors on the top and bottom of the antenna, then my recommendation is to hold them closer to the bottom where the hing is and press them back until they lock in place. I recall these being very very tight and I thought I might break them, but it does snap in. If your talking about the aluminum reflectors that stretch out in the front of the antenna, then I would look at the way the square rod is aligned with the plastic inserts. It may sound simplistic but that rod may not be precise to the space in the plastic rod. Try pivoting them before sliding them on. Otherwise, you may actually have a rod that is not the proper size. I have to say that the front reflectors on my antenna were very easy to slide on. I just used the wrong set screw on the 1st one. Ha ha ha.

It doesn’t matter where you mount it it doesn’t matter if it looks pretty it doesn’t matter if you can put it together the one that I got does not work and there’s no way that you can’t work because the battery cover you remove that and guess what all of the metal contact points that are designed To take the voltage from the batteries and bring it to the remote so it will work the middle contacts do not exist I’m sure that maybe I might get a response when I sent the email and the pictures to the company that brought this to me through Walmart now Walmart says they want to compete with Amazon but when you sell something and you deliver to the customer and there’s no way they can use it because the remote is defective it was never properly put together what good is it I’m sure there are a lot of people on RU-vid to get these things free as long as they do a sweet video to help promote the product give me one free of cost that works and I’ll do a video that people want to buy it but first I need to get one that works

Hi Stick. Sorry to hear you got a defective product. Hopefully the manufacturer will man up and replace it for you. Just another note, I never got this for free. I just feel that I use RU-vid so much myself to get helpful tips and guidance, that the least I can do is give back to the community that helps me. Sure some people get paid for it. Who cares? As long as the information I was seeking was accurate and true. Just another note, I don't get paid for this. I hope you get one that works. I still love my antenna and it still works great.

Sometimes people do get a lot of stuff free if they promoted my frustration is is if Walmart wants to promote products they should ensure that what the customer is getting in the box is complete and everything works or they should be able to get a rapid refund by caring the product into Walmart and showing the product as far as it being defective like mine and get an instant refund When you pull off the cover to install the batteries there are terminals for the positive and the negative on one side but on the other side of the battery compartment there’s no metal that supposed to be used to connect the other two ends of the battery together that means there’s no electricity going into the remote which makes the remote useless Walmart should have a policy if you can bring the product into the store and show the defective part and show them your email they should automatically give you your money back right then and there no questions asked Amazon would certainly do that if they had a store

I agree as I bought it and it is a piece of junk. Could hardly bring in my 2 local stations. Rabbit ears gave me 3 channels.

I appreciate your comment. However, in my case, I've had this antenna up for over 4 years now and it still works like a champ. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones.
