Ha! Look for it on Friday, probably on our blog. I'll update the description here with a link too. I made a custom combinator today for it with some parameters you can tweak to tailor the kit to your liking. In retrospect, I should've put that out along with the video but I didn't think people would want a lofi kit sampled with a phone but of course people want that! lol Lesson learned. In future vids if there's something to give away I'll plan ahead. But yeah, check here on Friday or our blog because I think our content guy will be releasing it officially. /ryan
I've added them to the description but since you're the pinned comment I'll put it here for people to notice too. Ben's drums are up on our blog now: www.reasonstudios.com/blog/friday-giveaway-bens-drums
Thanks Ryan! I think you are one of the best demonstrators on RU-vid - really appreciate your "simple", clear, and concise videos that reflect a lot of thought and planning on your side.
@@HOLLASOUNDS ye you can do it in ReCycle too, but the point is to not interrupt your creative flow and train of thought by having to go into menus and drop downs and dialogs and other interface stuff. Going into another program and back definitely breaks the flow.
@@Kaitain Not really as I made a hip hop beat that had a piano melody I made so I saved that and then used it as a sample with the intention of creating a new lofi beat. Took Me about 10 minutes to lay down the lofi idea from using the piano loop I made.
I recently found myself coming back to Reason, tried the Reason+ trial and found myself subscribing. I know subscription isn't for everyone, but having a vast collection of instruments, downloadable patches, cross platform compatibility etc under one roof is really attractive. So now, I'm back on Reason to give it another try and I'm really enjoying it!
As an owner of Reason 10 I actually despise the rental model. I may sell my license and go for rental. I dunno. Dont understand why they wont consider those of us who have literally owned Reason since day 1.
@@globalgogetter4469Yeah, I’m not a fan of the rental model either. With today’s pricing, the license model is cheaper after 5 years. That’s assuming you upgrade to each new version of Reason right away. If you wait for sales or skip a version, that break even point comes earlier. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Ryan is the best! I love these videos. I always get into doing things that take me out of making music and more into worrying about the minutiae. Thanks Ryan!
we all can fall into that trap! You're not alone, but hopefully I can help us all remember (myself included) that sometimes we don't need to be so worried about the process and instead focus on the result - the music. Thanks for watching! /ryan
I've been ranting on the sub model and the lack of user friendliness in the DAW, but as a rack reason is amazing, and also the sub model is growing on me. I'm thinking to sign upp. I'm hopeful for the future development of Reason. Kanon bra Reason och tackar för eran hårt arbete. 👍
Reason has always been the Real Deal, waiting to get back on it since 4.0 coming from hardware experience and back to Reason should be an amazing experience after the gained experiences through out the years. Great Vid.
The Reason i stay in Reason Studio, is because the creative process is always straight foward like that, can be simple and effective or very complicated and sofisticated at will, other DAW disconect you so much from the most important thing, making music, the way you wan't !!!
Haha! I actually had that made by one of those t-shirt print on demand companies. I wanted to test out the process and their quality for a different project so I made that one as a trial printing run. :) /ryan
I love this method of working! I'm going to start experimenting with Mimic's slide mode. Far too often I get bogged down with production decisions.... Fast creations like this seem very attractive right now! :) Thanks Ryan and Reason!
Yeah me too! I think we all get bogged down like that if we're not careful, which is why I was so excited when I realized how quick this workflow was and wanted to share with everyone. Hope it results in as much new music for you as it has for me! /ryan
@@ReasonStudios I would be interested in seeing a quick way to import these slices into Kong and other devices as well. Thanks so much for your good work and I'm looking forward to watching more of your tutorials. I've been using Reason for many years in conjunction with MOTU's Digital Performer. It's a very powerful combination!
Thanks! I'd love to say I do it only for all y'all but honestly the way I learn this stuff and use it myself is to break it down nice and simple so I can understand and approach it creatively. :) Then I just share what I've figured out with you guys in case it helps you too. Glad to hear that it does! /ryan
I think, but I haven't tested it myself, that it's as many slices as there are MIDI notes and I think that's 127. So you could definitely get every note of a guitar. I'm not sure I would want to do it that way though. Mimic isn't designed to be a multi-sample style of Sampler. NN-XT is still better for that because it supports multiple velocity and layer cross-fading and stuff. But there are ways to create quick and dirty sampled instruments that I'm using Mimic for similar to this video. Sometimes the best sampled instrument is the one you actually make. It doesn't matter if you could do it better some other way, if you don't actually do it. And so for me, the quick and dirty approaches are often the best because I actually do them. (if that makes sense) Great questions! Thanks for watching! /ryan
You are so deep in the element of demo-ing reason products and workflows, somehow you have always looked to me like you were created in a lab just for that purpose lmao or like an AI or something The song you created for this vid takes the edge off🎶
Dope video. Did you record the samples from your phone? Is there a certain app that's especially good for field recording? Also can you please do a micro tutorial on compression. There are tons of videos out there but they don't put it in simple understandable terms like you. Keep doing what you are doing we love it and appreciate it.
I just used the built in video app because I realized in that moment that I'd be making a video. There's several audio recording apps but the built in voice memos is honestly what I use most times because it's the fastest and most convenient. I also have an app called Voice Record Pro which does some fancier things but most times I still just reach for the immediacy of Voice Memos to record an idea. But check that one out too. Oh and compression video: It's on my list to make soon! /ryan
Hello Propellerheads Reason, I reported a problem. I bought your software and installed it but I won't get buttons when I open Reason. What am I doing wrong? I have Windows 10
Thinking to come back to Reason but the 12 demo doesn't show the letters inside the app. No presets names in the browser and no devices names at the rack. Also the preferences are not showing options.Any idea? I've got ATI Radeon 3000 with driver up to date. I have tried V11 demo and seems ok. No graphics issues with Studio One, UVI Falcon and the rest of my VST. Thanks;)
Hey Ivan, I checked with our testing and support guys and this is what they told me about your issue. It sounds like an older unsupported video card: "If possible update the video drivers. If it still doesn’t help, it may be because there are no drivers that are new enough for the problem to go away. You want at least an OpenGL version 4.1.0 or newer. That card is 14 years old and has no official AMD drivers for windows 10. The card only supports opengl 3.3."
@@RyanHarlin I really apreciate your effort to put some light in the dark here. My system become old, just like me:). I was trying Windows 11. Everything is working surphising well but it's time to move on. Thank you very much again👋👋👋
You could drag the same sound file into multi slots and use that mode. You just would need the extra step of cropping the start end times for the one slice you want to trigger.
@@ReasonStudios I must say I do connect massively with Mimic. I started producing back in the late 90s using an SP1200 and this gives a me a similar vibe without all the faffing about. We don't realise how spoilt we are nowadays!!
@@chrisevans5082 Oh really!? I've got an SP 12 sitting in my closet and I've got a video I want to make with it for this channel. Faffing about is a perfect description of its workflow! :) /ryan
Hey Ryan did you get the link to the combinater livestream outro groove remix I posted? I was a bit concerned that posting links would make the comment go into your spam filter. The vid is the latest upload so make your groove remix before you listen to My one so that what you make is bassed purely off the sample and then we can see how different your idea is. I assume others will join in on the remix challenge.
Well you could but the workflow would be a little more involved. I would have to drag the audio into Reason's sequencer and use the Bounce Clips to New Rex File feature. Already, I'm out of luck if I'm using the Reason Rack Plugin so then I'd need to go into ReCycle to make the rex file. But once I had the Rex File I could indeed load it into Dr. OctoRex. You are correct but all of the other things like adding filters, shelving EQ, compression, noise coloration... that would all have to be done with additional rack devices. And while I could pitch the audio in Dr. Octorex, I wouldn't be able to tap into the advanced stretch algorithms of Mimic either. So yeah, there's 17 ways to do almost everything in Reason. In fact, part of the fun of Reason, at times, is figuring out different ways to do the same thing, but for a task like this when I'm in a creative flow I want the fastest easiest method and so for me Mimic has jumped to the front of the list for tasks like this. /ryan
Just... thanks. I have a PO-32 and so far I've been playing loops and chopping them. Can't believe I missed the direct sample record function! Such an idiot.
i just bought a syntethizer Behringer Poly D, a brand new soundcard Behringer u-phoria umc202hd its impossible to play on my macbook speakers with Reason..
well it's the same workflow of cubase sampler track or logic quick sampler.... but I prefer the old workflow of sampling with cool edit pro (or directly in the host daw) and cut, trim etc etc.....and THEN.....mapping them into sample libraries. yes, more time consuming less catching musical ideas....but saves a lot of disc and ram memory! all those gap fills are memory wasted on your drive and computer ram, I am obsessed to optimization of space even in real world ;)
IMHO, you're wasting time and possible creative flow by worrying about that. It's 2021 and disc space is insanely cheap - there is literally no reason to bother optimizing space for sampling like this.
@@EnochLight yes true, for one or two tracks but when you have tons tons of tracks, samples, ideas...nothing is infinite maybe neither universe is....so I like saving space. maybe this comes from my childhood when I've used a lot hardware samplers like kurzweil and you had 64 or 128 mega, so you had to do that! However is not so difficult nowadays, functions like strip silence in nuendo/cubase or logic work good and in few minutes you have an optimised group of audio files ready to be mapped in your sampler. in the past you have to trim manually and I admit was really time consuming.
I wish these official tutorials weren’t just advertising for new instruments. I miss the 52 weeks of reason stuff or even Ryan’s super neat series. Tossing around tips and deep dives will get producers salivating. We are nerds for this stuff. Your promotion the last few years has been very meh. And the tutorials are just promotion.
I'm gearing up to make some new videos like you're describing, actually! I couldn't be more excited for them and if you have anything you specifically want to see let me know. I'd love to hear suggestions. My plan currently is to do some short videos like this one and others that are meant to show a quick little idea that hopefully inspires people to try it out in their own music making, and then also some longer vids like I was doing with the Beat Cheat Sheets and Mix Fix Tricks. That stuff + a return to livestreaming and other projects the other people on the creative team are working on should make the remainder of 2021 a fun time for this channel! /ryan
@@ReasonStudios This is MUSIC to my ears. Where is the best place to give such suggestions? I'll start here (I'm on Reason+): 1) Please get into proper Lo-fi hip hop/chill beats, (like the type heard on the Lofi Girl channel). Reason used to be known for more techno/electronic style music, but today it has GREAT tools for lofi. We have a few effects like Audiomatic, Echo(with the tape wobble feature), and Scream, as well as various presets that are lo-fi friendly (like Radical Pianos). Would be great to get a serious overview of the tools available for lofi, and maybe a Combinator 2 patch creation that leverages the various tools reason has to create a sinigle instrument/effect. As well as how to use mimic to sample for lofi. 2) 808 creation using MODERN tools reason has to offer 3)Preset discovery. It's still very daunting to dive into Reason's vast preset library and it is not easy to navigate. Would be great to see some preset overviews that could be used to create various popular styles of music. As well as tips on how to find what you're looking for. 4) Mixing and Mastering using a modern "Reason 12" workflow to get a big, Phat sound without crazy clipping. 5) Acoustic guitar options In Reason or for reason. 6) Beat Deconstruction. This is probably not ideal for you guys considering copyright issues and finding guys good enough to do it, but Channels like Point Blank Music School and Beat Academy often do re-creation of modern, popular tracks in Ableton. These are very popular and the Reason community would 1000% benefit from similar content. You guys used to make some great high-quality tutorials, but that lion's share of them are from 9 ~ 12 years ago!!!!! We need (and deserve) a refresh.
@@lenglain8230 I could make Lo-Fi with reason 4 in 07 so not sure how your struggling. You can chop up Reasons old school hip hop rex loops for the beat. Make a piano melody using Reason nnxt grand piano preset set to 90 bpm then when done set tempo to 200 and export that piano and then import it and slow it back to 90bpm for that low piano vibe then add a simple usion for that classic lofi distorted piano vibe and then add in a bit of Scraching rex loops and that's it. No fancy stuff required.
@@HOLLASOUNDS Please re-read my comment, I never said I was "struggling" to create lofi. I actually stated that Reason has great stock tool for lofi and that it would be cool to get an official guide on this from Reason Studios. You're also suggesting a 2007 workflow when reason has new tools to do this which is exactly why I'm suggesting an official tutorial on this with the updated modern workflow..
The people at Reason should start think of some midi controllers device support instead of this kind of useless videos about useless gear. If we can't control Reason on the stage like Ableton than what is the point?!...
@@rootbeermcgee vst3 is NOT there until they add it so that doesn’t count Combinator ……..is nice but is just a touch up on something that was already there Mimic is the only new thing As such, no. And if they added fruition to R12, I’m pretty sure they would piss off a lot of people that PAID for it separately.
They won't put it in the shop. People would buy that and not upgrade. I might've stayed on 11 if I could get mimic independently. Glad I upgraded tho.😏 Now its $70 more!😳
