I think the one major difference, is that the series was more clearer in showing the people killed by Omni-man's beating of Mark. In the comic, you see the crash of the subways, and buildings going down. But they don't focus on the people who died in the attack. It's not just the gore, it's seeing those people's faces, seeing them humanized, before they die... that makes this scene even more traumatic in the series, than it already was in the comic.

The Train scene especially broke my Heart. Omni man kept on implying how humans lives are fragile in comparison to them but I feel like all Mark could see was how much Helpless he was that he couldn't save any of those people and how he couldn't "save" his dad like he wanted to from the wrongs he was doing

Omni Man could've just thrown the train at mark or sum shit, would've been same result. but the whole episode is Omni Man gaslighting and making Mark think all the bloodshed is his fault, and he purposely holds Mark there to show him there's no point in tryna save people. literally the conversation they were just having right before the train comes

Yea, so the whole episode mimicked a lot of what was in the comics in terms of choreography and dialogue. But there are still lots of differences including that scene where Omni-Man held Invincible while the train came crashing into them, trying to mentally break him. I'm glad they included that because that scene was in-flipping-sane.

When he says "let's see how you handle this" he is referring to the destruction his body is going to leave, not the punch he is laying into him, and that hit me hard when I first watched this episode how he is just trying to break his son in all these ways.

Bro same. I think part of it is for most people, we could never imagine our dad’s trying to actively kill us, let alone hurt us. Yea parents aren’t perfect, and there are obviously outright criminally abusive parents out there. But to have someone who’s supposed to be the hero just go all murdery on their own kid...and after all that, Mark still loves his dad. Fucking brutal.

Possibly best 1st season of any show. wtf!!! The way they have adapted the source material is brilliantly done. Some scenes are word for word, others have changed for the better. Kirkman has decided to move some things around, to many things to mention. Either read the comics and have some things spoiled or just watch the show, no half-steppin'.

After seeing the fight dozens of times, it finally dawned on me: In a world of kill or be killed "I can always start again " IS THE VILTRUMITE WAY! Fight to the death, heal up, repeat, If your child doesn't survive, have another one. Nolan is frustrated that he didn't warn his son that this was coming. Hopefully, Mark is like Shizuo, who broke his own bones until they stopped breaking.

Everyone’s always hating Amber, but no one considers her POV. We all love Mark, but imagine someone else in his place. Amber is just wanting a relationship, but her boyfriend is constantly flaking out and making up lies. We know it’s for a good cause since we’re following Mark’s story, but if you turn it around, then you’d realize that Ambers gradually increasing frustration is totally valid and realistic. Amber’s reaction in episode 7 proves she’s not a phony. Had she been like “Oh my gosh! You’re a super hero!?? I never knew.” then that honestly would have been worse and done nothing for character development. I’m glad the writers didn’t take the cliche route, because it would have made her a weak character in the story. Also, she’s not perfect either. She saw Mark’s side of the story on the TV and realized he has good intentions, which is why she opened up and had sympathy at the end of the season. There’s more depth to the show than people give it credit for…

There are a few differences like the train scene: the comic just has them landing in the tunnels and doesn't show the whole holding Invincible to an incoming train, and there are episodes that happen a little later. I think the changes they made from the comic to TV made it a better story.

My only issue is that it makes Omni-Man less redeemable. Because if the creators want him to start and wake up and see what a monster he is and become good again, how can they justify for him killing a good 100,000 people? But we’ll see….

Robert put his ass in this episode....it was the living embodiment of what happened in the comics and more... it's tough to say where you should stop...because we don't find out about Rudy until AFTER the Omni-Man fight. Even the Battle Beast fight happened after Omni-Man.

I as a comic reader and somebody who loves this series watch it, and i see all these characters and i remember how their stories go for bettor or in the case of many for much worse, and i can't help but grin because if you thought this was sad, this was emotional and this changed so much, you are going to have your mind blown by whats coming. This series jokingly branded itself as "the greatest superhero series in the world!" and eventually that became true. So i leave you with one word that will be a word that will change this series and everything in it. Thragg.

I jumped on the comics after a few episodes and read it all in a week. They did an amazing job of adaptation; they've kept the tone and the main storyline but some event happens in a different order and do'nt always involve the same characters so you can still get surprised watching the show. I really enjoyed the rest of the season even though I knew where it would end up; you can read it all and still fully enjoy the show.

To add to what others have said, volume 1 (of 12) of the hardback Ultimate Collection covers 1-13, which is basically the first season's story arc. If you don't want to spend as much Image also has their Compendium format, which has the whole series in three massive paperback tomes.

It is hard to say how far you can read in the comic without being spoiled for season 2. For example The part with DA Sinclair where he confronts his professor happens in issue 20, but the fight with Invincible in Sinclair's hideout happens in issue 37. But if you read as far as issue 37 you will see things that probably won't happen until season 3 or maybe even 4. If you only want the Nolan stuff you can keep it to about issues 1-15 or so.

The fight between Omni-man and Invincible is pretty much directly imported from the comics. As for the rest, there are a few changes here and there, like Robot getting his Rudy body, that happen much later in the comics than in the series. If going by issues, I would say it's safe to read up to issue 13 or the first 3 collected volumes.

From what I remember reading the comment, the huge white haired and bearded viltrumite in the scene they were killing each other will play a role, maybe even in season 2. But mainly Nolan did not make the train hit mark and kill all those people using mark as a meat shield when I read the comic, which is a crazy and nice touch to the scene.

Something I’ve never seen anyone mention is, what Nolan, not Omni-Man, Nolan says in the flashback. “Yeah, I saw. I Saw.” He’s not talking about Mark hitting the ball. He’s not talking about the home run. He’s talking about the feeling Debbie pointed out to him. He saw the value of humanity. He’s probably thousands of years old, and he was bogged down by the weight of the world, and the indoctrination of Viltrum. Even after everything he’d been through, everything he’d been taught to think and feel, he saw what Debbie was saying. And despite the centuries, possibly millennia of conquest and genocide, 17 years broke him, for even the briefest moment.

There are some slight changes and the fight is expanded to show how ruthless Nolan is, but it's more or less the same as what happens in the comic. They keep the big moments. The show pulls some plotlines from way ahead in the story and rearranges a lot of things, but season 1 pretty much ends where issue #13 ends.

The fight was mostly comic accurate with a few changed elements in it, like Nolan using mark as a wall against the train, also that added scene of young mark playing baseball. But other than that it played out close to the comic. This fight happens in issues 11-13 of the comic.

You should be able to read up to issue 25 now without major spoilers.some events in this season even happen past that in the comic,mainly the reanimen and college stuff.

Well, surprisingly enough (or maybe not) this first season only covers roughly the first 13 issues of the 144 issue run of Invincible. It cuts a few things and also brought some things that happen after issue 13 up, like the Mars adventure and the college trip and DA Sinclair's reanimen, so even if it is generally very true to the comics there are some relevant differences. In any case, as I've read somewhere in the comments already, I think this is one of those cases of you either read the entire thing and enjoy the experience of knowing what's coming, the foreshadowing and references that you pick up with that knowledge, but also the delight of seeing how they change things and how they somehow are managing to enhance and mature the story, or you hold tight and read it after the show is done.

Viltrumites like saiyans, get stronger each time they recover from serious injury. After this episode Mark should be a lot stronger than he was. And if immortal comes back and trains with Mark...

No, they get stronger with age and training, just taking a beating doesn't make Viltrumites stronger, what happens in the comics is that they emphasize their ability to overcome challenges, which often consists of facing physically superior opponents and winning. If just nearly dying was enough to make him stronger Mark should have been able to beat Thragg for the number of times he almost died.

the irony is if you think about it he IS invincible. the man hasnt been vinced yet. he hasnt died, therefor hes technically still in the bounds of his namesake hahah

There is some new things thrown in the show that wasn't in the comics, some stuff that happens later in the comics happened early, some things that got skipped might happen in S2. We'll just have to see.

I really thought it would be tough to top episode 7, but I kind of think they did with this finale. It was insanity from the start. From what I can tell, the fight is pretty similar to the comics, thought much more brutal. The subway scene is new to the show, I think.

This episode was almost word for word from the comics. Also season 1 is chronologically upto issue 12, but things have been kinda rearranged. I really recommend reading the comics !

I have 150 straight issues. I've noticed the gender swaps and race swaps too. The main thing for this first season is Robot making the clone so early. That shouldn't take place until the 30s or 40s. 🤨
