Although this video was from three years ago Allulose is still being used by lot's of people with diabetes and to decrease the bad effects of sugar. I tried an organic maple syrup with allulose and it tasted great. Wasn't quite as sweet but still good. I just ordered a bottle of the liquid Allulose to use for different things. It definetly dosen't elevate my blood glucose very much at all. No gastric upset either,

The information about the interplay between carbs and allulose is very interesting. I just watched a video on making sugar free licorice in which the ingredients are gelatin, allulose, flavor drops and flour. I thought that because the recipe had flour in it that maybe it was not really sugar free, but from what you are saying, it is pretty close to sugar free because I think you are saying that the allulose will block absorption of the flour. That is pretty cool!

Allulose has been the key to help me lose weight. I’ve lost 27 lbs so far by cutting out sugars completely and replacing them with Allulose. I have also gone low carb in other areas of my diet, but the biggest culprit was the sugary drinks, which I now sweeten with Allulose. A word of caution - allulose does still have a negative gastrointestinal effect beyond a specific dosage, which I’ve discerned for myself to be around 30-40g per sitting (more than enough for even a sugar addict like me).

A surprising fact is how malleable our tastes can be. I also disliked stevia's bitter aftertaste initially. But having picky cats that I needed to supplement, I learned how to add tiny amounts and slowly build. I did that with stevia and sugar for myself. I started half & half, which tasted fine to me, then over a couple of months, changed the proportions till 100% stevia tastes better, now! I guess, allulose wouldn't need that process.

The carb study Thomas references is very easy (and delicious) to replicate at home. Sugar free jello pudding is basically pure maltodextrin. Make it per the package directions and mix in 25g of allulose and test your blood sugar. Do it the next day but, use 25g of swerve (or other sweetener) and repeat. You can even do a third day with no additional sweetener. I might try this starting tomorrow.

@arwenwestrop5404

@@kristentaylor5359 the problem is that we do not just pay for the shipping, which is relatively high, we also have to pay VAT, sometimes import tax as well, and because it's handled by the post office, they take a share too. Allulose has a low Glycemic Index so you can also subtract the entire value of Allulose from the total carbs per serving when calculating net carbs. Total Carbs (g) - Fibre (g) - Erythritol (g) - Allulose (g) = Net Carbs April, 2019, the FDA said "Allulose is different from other sugars in that it is not metabolized by the human body in the same way as table sugar. It has fewer calories, produces only negligible increases in blood glucose or insulin levels, and does not promote dental decay." Also, the FDA said, … we consider that allulose should not be included in the “Added Sugars” declaration, including the %DV declaration. Furthermore, we note that, based on information about usage levels provided in GRAS notices (Refs. 5-7), we expect that the caloric contribution of allulose will be insignificant in most cases and will substantially reduce the amount of total calories and calories from added sugars in products where it replaces those added sugars Therefore, we intend to exercise enforcement discretion with respect to the exclusion of allulose from the gram amount of and the %DV for “Added Sugars” declared on Nutrition and Supplement Facts labels, pending future rulemaking. www.fda.gov/media/123342/download

I've been doing low carb with intermittent fasting and periodic prolonged fasting this year. Started at 410 lb and I'm down 85 lb so far. Should be able to hit my goal of 100 lb for the year. I do consume significant amounts of diet soda that contains aspartame. Perhaps I'll worry about cutting down on that when I reach my weight goal... A man has to have a few vices. My artificial sweetener of choice is liquid sucralose for coffee or tea because it has the least aftertaste for me. I recently purchased some allulose to experiment with some baking or candied nuts. I'm pretty hardcore on the low carb so I won't be indulging often as it does still have some significant carbs. Every couple months, I will allow myself to take a break from the diet for a week or two. Usually during fruit harvest or during festival times so I can indulge a bit in the products of orchard. I do love sugar but I try to limit my consumption, even during breaks. Taking breaks so that I can have regular pizza or a bowl of pasta or a few actual sandwiches with real bread have let me keep my sanity. Best of luck to everyone on their journey

Hi Thomas, thanks for this. Question, do you feel good enough about allulose to feed to your children? Im trying to find snack food replacements for my grandson but worry about sugar substitutes. Any of your research talk about effects on kids?
@ccoodd26
@ccoodd26 3 года назад
Individual sensitivities are always a possibility. Allulose has the same chemical formula as fructose, but is arranged differently. This difference in structure prevents your body from processing allulose the way it processes fructose. It’s been shown to resist fermentation by your gut bacteria. There's multi variable interactions going on that we don't understand yet.

So I’m not Keto but I am on a specific kind of diet at my drs direction and sugar and sugar alcohols are something I’m supposed to avoid, so I’ve been using stevia and monk fruit BUT I just ate some bran flakes with granulated allulose sprinkled on top and wow 🤩 if I wouldn’t have known I would absolutely thought that was sugar, sooooo good! Yes! The very best caramel ever is just allulose, heavy cream, vanilla & salt to taste~ seriously SO freaking good. Can store for a couple months in fridge (like it would last) & even freezes well. Just bring to room temp before using, from either.

@@SativaSteven Sure Steven~ Just combine: 1+1/2c. heavy cream, 1/2 c. allulose, 1 tsp. vanilla, & 1/4 tsp. salt in a medium, heavy bottom pan, over med/high heat. Bring to a boil, whisking gently~then reduce to a simmer & cook until it thickens & turns golden brown. It does take awhile to get there, but once it does, pull off heat so it won't burn. Keep in mind that tastes vary, so you may want a little more or less sweetener, salt or vanilla. I tend to add a little bit more of each- especially vanilla =)

*Just realized, I could have just dropped the link to where I originally found it, but it's such a simple recipe that I've memorized. Here's the link anyhow, in case you want to try some of his other recipes- good stuff on "thebigmansworld.com" He has a killer Coconut Bar recipe I'm trying out today~ (think Mounds.) His recipes are very simple, & some of them may need to be adjusted to suit taste. I'm now experimenting w/making actual caramel candy- that sets up chewy- since we are caramel hounds in this house. I found a microwave recipe on "kimspireddiy" but I'd rather not use the microwave for candy. Also, not sure what kind of "sugar free syrup" is referred to in the recipe...more research needed on this one. :)

Allulose IS sugar, of a different molecule that you absorb at about 1/10th of actual sugar. This makes it great for recipes that really require sugar, like barbecue ribs, because it actually caramelizes. I think you can actually literally make caramel out of it. It's not "free," calorically, but it's close. I've been using it as an alternative for a couple years. Oh, the best thing? It tastes like sugar because it IS sugar. It is about 70% as sweet, so I spike it with a little monk fruit sweetener to bring it to 100%.

Other sugar substitutes have been known to make the body crave sugar because of how sugar substitutes mimic but make the body ultimately feel deprived of sugar. I apologize for not having the background in the science behind this to describe the impact, however, just wanted to ask if allulose may similarly end up doing the same thing.

I had bariatric surgery 2 months ago, and after surgery I can’t tolerate many sugar alcohols. In fact some cause me to have dumping syndrome. I used to a monk fruit erythritol blend, and now it makes me sick. I only use monk fruit extract and a sugar alcohol free monk fruit powder. I do see allulose being used a lot in the bariatric community, and people with sensitive stomachs seem to tolerate it well. So, I might give it a try.

As far as I understood, this was a cell culture experiment. Nothing else can happen if there's only hepatocytes in a plate than either processing or accumulation. So this should not be interpreted as if accumulation would happen in a fully working organism.

The liver is supposed to be the number 1 detoxification organ in the body. After drinking alcohol for example it will end up in the liver as the liver behaves as a gatekeeper and filter it lout of the body. The ingredients found in pee and poo mainly comes from the liver and it detoxifying properties. So what he basically meant was that the liver filtered 95% of all allulose out of the body thru urine. So basically it isn't digested or utilized in the body as normal sugar would, you eat it and pee it out. The only reason this could be negative to the liver is only if the organ already has problem doing its job such as in ppl with liver cancer or hepatitis for example (which would be problematic for every other substance such as a Tylenol). Other than that, it's OK!

Yeah but each has it's pros and cons. You probably can find use for all of them just have to be aware of consequences. For example stevia doesn't (personal experience) raise blood sugar as erythritol. I consumed them during a fast and felt zero negative consequences from the blood sugar standpoint. But they don't taste that great. Stevia especially. On the other hand allulose has better qualities then two former sweeteners yet it has calories and metabolized somewhat like glucose, therefore cannot be used during fast. Educate yourself and make a choice.
