Is loving motorcycles genetic?

There have been several articles claiming that a gene, the DRD4-7R allele, is the reason some of us fall in love with riding motorcycles. I set out to investigate the source of these claims to figure out if there is ANY validity to them.

Haven't watched the video yet, but multiple BSB championship winning rider Shane Byrne was adopted as a baby into a family with zero history of motorcycles, and only started riding in his teens. (Johnny Smith did an interview with him on his Late Brake Show channel to introduce him as the channel's bike tester/expert)

Underrated channel by faaaar Even a "boring" concept like this had me hooked Really hope you find the time to make more videos even though the algorithm helps the "shorts" category

Honestly the reason I’m doing shorts now is because I have so many ideas and I’d never get to so many of them if I didn’t 😂 I’m glad you watched this one, I enjoyed making it!

I look forward to your videos like I look forward to FortNine and Kurzgesagt - well researched and entertaining. If you’re asking, I’d love to have some key tags to buy (2, specifically).

Key tag like a chain for your bike key? That's an interesting idea, I'll investigate where I could get those made.

I mean a 2 inch thing to put on my key ring (textile, preferably). I don’t have time to figure out how to send you a picture, but you can search “motorcycle key tag”.

As someone with ADHD, dopamine definitely has SOMETHING to do with ADHD, imo. Im not a scientist, but so much of ADHD has yo do with emotional regulation issues, and a lack of sufficient stimulation. Its like what satisfies the average mind so it can focus just isnt enough for us. Its possible there are other dopamine receptor genes associstes with ADHD, hence why the study results vary. Maybe multiple genes can cause issues with dopamine reception or absorption-or hell, even production. I take literal amphetamines for my ADHD. What do those chemicals generally do? If im not mistaken-flood the brain with dopamine

yes, adhd most definitely has *a lot* to do with dopamine, it's not up to debate. and it is genetic. but i'd say that trying to find a link between a particular gene variant that around half of americans happen to have, and a disorder with a prevalence of around 5%... really doesn't seem to be the way to go and about misusing those studies to call it a motorcyclist gene... i feel like straight up claiming that having adhd will lead you to getting into motorcycles (and/or other thrill-seeking hobbies) would be more honest in this case. at least you've got the dsm criteria to back you up on this one, lmao

3rd gen rider. Dad rode. Grandpa rode. I ride. My brother rides. We have been apart for most of my life and I found out about 4 years ago he was riding/racing. I just found out in December my grandpa rode too. So intense. In my blood for sure(phrasing).

Dunno about it being genetic, but I'm a 3rd generation bike rider. Both grandfathers rode motorbikes, as did both my parents. My brother, one of my sisters, and numerous uncles, aunts, great-uncles, cousins etc rode or ride motorbikes, too. Quite a hoot that the "20%" doesn't show the full picture and the actual figures argue furiously against the idea that it's hereditary. Won't let that fact prevent me from buying a "Born to Ride" T-shirt, though 😂

So then motorcycling "got into my blood" during the collarbone surgery. Or was it removed from the blood? Damnit, it got too complicated and I need to order a whole new brain cell from Amazon now!
