The HDZero Whoop Lite VTX is one of the few options on the market for going digital on our micro FPV drones, but is it too easy to break? I am here to tell you that the durability of these little HDZero video transmitters is all about how you mount it. Let's dive in to some tips and tricks that I use to mount mine, and I will show you a super embarrassing crash reel along the way! Oh, yeah I will also show you how I rip with this VTX in my 3" Pork Chop freestyle toothpick build...

Great job getting these tips out there. You’ve enlightened brains and saved the sanity, hearts, and wallets of many. I did buy a few extra shares of Shoe Goop stock after watching this 😉 I’m a firm believer in the goop method of securing cables / hardware where possible. It’s just good common sense.

Hey, let me know if you hear of any insider tips on that stock buy....I am down to make a few bucks on a goo investment! I've also had no issues with broken Whoop Lite VTXes and I run 4 of them, plus a V1 Whoop VTX. Instead of Shoe Goo I use E6000 for exactly the same purpose. Pretty much all your other recommendations I already use despite never seeing this video before!

RTV silicone and liquid electrical tape are also good for covering connections. Shoo-goo and similar is cool because it can absorb an impact when it’s a decent amount. Goo bumpers! Alcohol will help remove glues, or pcb glue remover. Works super fast if you have it. Also I usually use a separate tiny BEC as I hate having to replace components on boards. Saves a huge amount of reliability issues. I use onboard voltage regulators only when weight is super critical and if it can supply more than I need. But like to have separates as this is a high failure rate circuit. Also less electrical noise (especially from the coil) close to the sensitive components (ie gyro) Properly sized additional TVS diodes are also tiny and increase reliability as it will burn out before the TVS on the board. Another high failure component which is much easier to swap when on wires (I usually attach them to the leads/bottom of the capacitor) than swap on the board. Remember even a tiny tiny capacitor makes a pretty big difference. Better have something super tiny than nothing at all. Awesome job as usual Baconman! What microphone is that? Conference omni thing? Not familiar. Also the giggle at the end… Priceless!!!
@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV Год назад
Gotta love the goo bumpers! lol. I really like shoe goo for exactly that, and it is pretty easy to rip off with a pair of tweezers without taking other components with it. It gives you that feeling of peeling off one of those sticky adhesive pads things come stuck with in the mail! It is my bubble wrap....lol. I also agree with running external BECs. I try to whenever I can, and I do it especially on higher voltage quads so that I can completely isolate the power input from any other noisy or spiky things that may be happening on the board. In the case of the pork chop, I probably could have stuck a 5v BEC in there somewhere, but with it only running on 2S max and the VTX being rated for 3S I didn't feel too bad about it. The VTX I was holding in this is actually going into a 4S 3" though, so it will have a little BEC in there running it since that build will have the room for it. That microphone looking thing in the shot was actually my bench cam, a Razer Kiyo Pro. It looks like a little hockey puck, but it does uncompressed HD over USB at 60FPS, so it makes for a pretty nice overhead! Speaking of microphones, I got my SeV7 today. Hopefully you will be able to hear the difference in this wednesday's video. I really like it so far and got all of my presets for Premiere adjusted for it. Nice and smooth with a little more bass and much better noise rejection!

@@BaconNinjaFPV those BECs are so small you can always fit them even on 40mm. There is always space!!! LoL I missed that… camera… crazy… it so looked like a conference mic… usb C and all :p I’m dumb… but camera wise that’s great, that type of camera is always good for overhead shots or b/c cams… your A camera sure likes to focus on it occasionally 😂 maybe it jealous! Glad you like the V7, it’s literally the first thing I thought when I thought about your voice and situation. I’m pretty good with matching stuff like this. I can’t wait to hear it, and hope it works well for you. Always excited to watch your videos!

Good tips. I’m leaning toward buying a bnf with this. I’ve never applied e6000 or shoe glue to the mipi cables but have always done it with the standard Whoop TX5.1S as well as my analog stuff.
@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV Год назад
Thank you man! What all BNF quads are coming with this nowadays? I haven't really paid too much attention to which board the new ones are coming out with and I assumed it would probably be the older stuff since there is back stock of it somewhere. MIPI cables are a littler harder to get the goo on, but I just do it right on the side where wires aren't coming out of the connector. Usually it just a little toothpick dab of it and I spread it down the connector with the toothpick while it is nice and smooth so it doesn't string over the top of the connector. Just a little bit holds it on really nicely and is easy enough to get off when you need to! I haven't had a MIPI pop off since I started doing it several months ago.

Excellent video. I would add as a Hdzero user myself that Carl has on many occasions stated a cap isn't necessary on a 1-3s build. However I agree on a freestyle build like yours I'd put one on as well. Just incase. But if weight and space is an issue don't over think it...... What's your initial thoughts good and bad of the 1s walksnail board and camera?
@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV Год назад
Thank you sir! Yeah on a little heavier rig that has open props the cap is a tiny little insurance policy, lol. Weight is a factor on some builds for sure, especially on 1S quads. As for the walksnail 1S gear, I am pretty excited that it even exists. It has been so difficult to go digital in the micro class for so long and it is nice to see two companies with options out there for it. I am surprised at how little it weighs, and with the potential of a system with retransmits we should really see some great video quality out of it as the firmware wrinkles get ironed out!

Good video. I fly HDZero 3-4 times a week. Mostly Whoop and Freestyle VRXs. Broken arms, ESCs, FCs, but like you, I have honestly never had a VRX die. Even when the antenna got disconnected, the VRX was fine. Just mounting them normally. Maybe it's the gap issue for some folks? I don't race, and Bardwell says racers have been having problems, but I really haven't seen any issues.
@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV Год назад
I really do think the gap and small considerations are where most of the VTX failures occur. Just because it fits, doesn't mean it can fly, lol. I also think that racers absolutely do have a tougher time with it because their crashes can be harder...although I fly pretty fast with a much heavier quad and have survived lots and lots of crashes so idk.

What about using hot glue instead if shoo goo (I have never seen it on this side of Atlantic). I use hot glue on all connectors and the benefit is that if you want to remove it, you give it a drop of ipa and it lets go.

Hmm, my Mobula6 HDZero has the sparkles, but it's connected to VBAT... Maybe it needs a capacitor added to the VBAT lead?
@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV Год назад
hmmmm, usually with the single cell packs on those quads a cap isn't really necessary. There are a couple of things that usually cause the sparkle with HDZ. One is as you pointed out, dirty power. It is possible that although it is a single cell quad, the BEC is introducing some noise. If you wanted to put a really small cap in and do it between a 5V pad and a ground pad, that would probably be the best shot at cleaning up the power. If that doesn't work, the sparkle can also come from antenna damage or heat. Heat shouldn't be too much of an issue if you aren't only getting the sparkles after leaving it powered up and not in the air for a while. I would double check the antenna and then think about that small cap to see if it helps.

Do you have a video showing how to unlock the power of the Whoop Lite VTX? Even after I change the power to 200, using the stick commands, the osd still shows 25mW.
@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV 11 месяцев назад
hmmmm, you shouldn't have to do an unlock for the whoop lite. The only HDZ VTX which needs and unlock should be the Freestyle. Do you happen to have an ELRS radio? It may be that the VTX administrator in the ELRS LUA is set to a power level and it is overriding your setting. I have had that happen a million times and kept forgetting it existed in there, lol.
@SunriseWaterMedia
@SunriseWaterMedia 11 месяцев назад
@@BaconNinjaFPV I just setup the ELRS version of the Boxer radio and have been using it on this quad. I hadn't heard of VTX administrator, but I will look around in the LUA script and see what I can find. I had emailed HD Zero support and they told me to flash the latest firmware on the VRX and VRS (already did that), update to Betaflight 4.4.1 (I was already updated), and then reset the VTX (which I couldn't find how to do in the manual), so what you are suggesting might be the help I need. I will report back soon. Thanks!

@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV Год назад
it is pretty flexible, that is for sure! What kind of cam are you using in yours? I never really had a jello problem out of the Ant or this Whoop Lite camera in mine.
@bcc1955
@bcc1955 Год назад
@@BaconNinjaFPV I was running naked Vista and Nebula Pro Nano. To minimize jello I beefed up the camera mount & reinforced the top plate so it would not oscillate up and down and change cam angle. None of that was enough. I could only get decent video by modulating throttle to be outside of natural frequencies. IMO single piece frames with this type of camera mount are problematic. Throw in the high flex of this frame and it may be near hopeless.
