Will you be purchasing or upgrading to the Rode Wireless PRO system? If so, why?

Great video. The 32 bit float peace of mind is worth its weight in gold. The reason is because it kinda eliminates the need for a field recorder for small crews. To not have to monitor the audio and “ride the levels” while filming a movie…it essentially makes the sound guys job almost obsolete. Set it and forget it and use the audio from the 2 mics as your master. The audio recorded to the camera is now just a reference track. And because you have time code, it’s no big deal to sync it up. It’s done automatically in the NLE. 🤷🏾‍♂️ Then they give us 2 lavs. Plus the Smart Case… Add the time code sync as a bonus…. It’s a yes for me.

These are all great points and the accessories that RODE includes definitely make this a strong mic system to consider.

This was a GREAT video! I love your presentation style, which is just right for me. You explain the things that I need to have explained, and you stay on topic the whole time with clear, understandable, relevant points. I notice that you started trying to post weekly a few months ago. I love that you were using the Rode II on a stand as your mic. It sounded great. Your production quality is fantastic and I surely hope that your subscribership grows quickly because you deserve a much larger audience. Keep up the good work! Subscribed. As I am just starting a YT channel and have not previously owned a lav mic, I think that the new Pro is the choice for me (over the DJI product), for the exact reasons that you so clearly explained.

I've been using the DJI mic setup for a while now, and just got the RW Pro's yesterday. So far, so good, the audio quality is fantastic. I do prefer many of the "quality of life" features the DJI's have, but the I definitely prefer the actual audio quality on the rw pro's more. I'm quickly finding out the gain assist on the RX side is really good on the Pro's, to the point where the 32 bit float internal recording really does become just a backup. My hopes so far for the next release is an OLED screen, and I hope they improve the controls some. I'm struggling to get used to the button combinations, but I'll learn them over time, I'm new to this Rode stuff. The Rode Central app is pretty good, and back to that sound quality - really impressed so far. I'm keeping the DJI's though for my youtube shorts I do on my other channel. They little usb-c phone adapter it has is clutch, and I can keep it connected while dropping it in the case. It literally takes about 3 seconds to setup for a Short. For that reason alone, the DJI's will stay in my bag of audio tricks.

Funny thing is I was able to swap them out given I only had my DJI mic set for 2 weeks. I do love DJI, but most of my audio equipment is Rode, so I was glad that I could make the swap. Also, I like the fact that my lav mic can be locked in and that it is native, unlike the DJI where I had to use third party Lavs.

Hello, thanks for the video! I would just like to know how 4 transmitters would be connected to 2 receivers in a single camera? I have a Rode wireless go II model kit and I would like to add one more so I could have 4 transmitters. Thank you

From what I've seen of the functionality, it'll still require work in post.

I just preorderd the Wireless Pro, I'm exactly in the same situation as you... The 32bit function is a big reason. The differens between you and me is that I sometimes do record live music and I'm thinking the 32-bit would make the capture easier instead of a safty-channel. To have the 32 bit and be able to use compressor/limiter in post would be an important upgrade in this situation i think, but sound is not my speciallity so I would love to here what you think about it. Would it benifit me to upgrade or should I just keep my Go II and save the money? ;)
@kriedholm
@kriedholm 10 месяцев назад
@PictProPhoto having 32bit for live music is definitely a compelling reason to upgrade. I'm pretty comfortable with these mics and have a fair amount of money invested, so I'm ok waiting until PRO II comes out. I'm also waiting to see how these REALLY perform once they're out on the market. They do look good on paper, though!

You can watch some of my videos to learn more, but I'm sorry, math does matter. As short as I can explain it. 24-bit fixed provides precise range of around 16 million values (amplitudes) to record your mic's sound pressure, so to speak. Simplifying a bit, 32-bit float is 24-bit fixed PLUS an 8-bit exponent which expands the range. Instead of 1 to 16 million, it's like 1 to a number so large you have to imagine 3.4 + 38 zeroes coming after it. It expands the RANGE, yes, but at the COST of precision. If you try to write values out of a 24-bit data space you'll get clipping. But that's user error. 32-bit float doesn't fix that. What Rode is doing is using an old technology, limiting, or automatic gain control, or what they now call "gain assist" to keep those values in range. They can do it for 24-bit as easily as 32-bit float. Why, because microphones output LINEAR voltage/current data. Is the Rode Wireless Pro worth the upgrade for 32-bit float? NO. Only if you want to import 32-bit float data into your workflow. The only advantage to 32-bit float is moving around data in post processing. It has not advantage when recording ADC data which is barely 16-bits in precision itself. Or let me put this in a positive way, there will be great deals on 24-bit equipment that are just as good as the new version--if not better because you're not wasting memory.

Hi, no point in upgrading to the pro, if you have the 2, it's always interesting to hear but like me if you need them to go with what you have then it's a yes, otherwise it's no 😊

I have a WG II with all accessories. And as 80% of the time I just record internally, I am thinking to upgrade because the Pro brings all the features I have been hoping for. Rode actually asked people what they wanted in a new version, and this was my list. All of my checkboxes ticked. BUT. Given the very high price in Europe and that I actually have bought a lot of the accessories for my WG II and that second hand WG II sets are now flooding the marketplace at prices I would myself jump at, I am not sure when and how I could do the upgrade.

It has monitor/record functionality built into the receiver or you can monitor via a headphone jack on your camera if you have one.
