CNN’s Abby Phillip, Laura Coates, and a panel of analysts discuss the gag order against former President Donald Trump in his ongoing New York hush money criminal trial. #CNN #News
@@georgia4407We see the ELECTION INTERFERENCE STALIN STYLE clearly. An 8 year old case that was dropped is SUDDENLY the most important case in history. How dum to you have to be to believe that?
The panel missed THE most important point of this entire debate... When a judge applies a gag order to a CRIMINAL in trial, that order MUST be adhered to despite the plans you had made in life pre trial and if Trump can blatantly get away with violating his order, then the defense attorney's of both Bryan Kohberger and Richard Allen (to name 2) need to jump all over it instead of doing their utmost to abide by the law. Perhaps those defendants should run for office and have everything against them halted too! ALL criminals defendants must abide by legitimate court orders. Trumps campaign should not even be brought into this argument... It's about keeping ALLof Americas criminal defendants in check.. and not holding one above them all. Either the law applies to everybody or the law should not apply to anybody!! It's that simple
Very very well said. It is that simple. The people who want to argue that it isn’t that simple are people who expect to maintain the two tiered justice system that we have already. One for the rich and powerful and one for everyone else .
But this is an exceptional case . This court case is a farce , a joke , but no one is laughing . It's a Nothingburger case that's been Trumped up ( forgive the pun ) to be a Felony dreamed up by a Barrage of Democrat hatred gone overboard . Election interference at the finest . Lawfare by the Demo's that's destroyed the legal systems credibility . What's coming next ? one fears to ask . C'mon America get on with the Debates ASAP .
She said he "has not, actually, it seems, violated the gag order since he's been punished, technically." A bit slippery, but completely accurate; notice no one else laughed or tried to correct her. Truth, accuracy and fairness still need to be 'things.'
@@KaiserBlade Michael Cohen cannot intimidate witnesses, because he is not on trial. Donald Trump IS facing criminal charges and thereby is covered by the rules about criminal defendants.
Cohen also doesn't trash talk the trial's jury or even the judicial system that put him behind bars. Trump wouldn't even have a gag order if he wasn't already doing something wrong -- he's so dumb.
@@KaiserBlade He is actually welcome to take the stand and the judge said it had nothing to do with his ability to defend himself. He's been told not to attack the jury or court staff. What doesn't seem fair is that he's only fined $1000 per violation.
It is effective, he’s being held accountable. It is affecting his so called freedom of speech in that he can’t say the lies and propaganda about certain people to intimidate and tear down the justice system.
The people commenting saying that Trump is "innocent" and he "didn't do it", if that's so then why are the people in his inner circle are going to jail for doing his dirty work?
A political candidate's speeches should be about POLICY and how he is going to make life for the average citizen better. Forget the B/S of complaining about the realities of your own actions as it is immaterial in governing. HOW IS HE GOING TO HELP THE PEOPLE HE WANT'S TO REPRESENT.
The fact of an adjudication of contempt of court, regardless of the imposed consequence, will permanently remain on the record. Hopefully it is allowable to consider this if any penalties/sentencing arise from a conviction in the related trial. And hopefully it is considered a legal violation with respect to other bond or parole conditions prohibiting such transgressions.
Democrat Nazis violating Jewish students civil rights would have been dealt with under Trump. The gag order isn't working because Trump is still leading in all the poles. The Democrats scheme to destroy democracy by taking away the voters choice won't work.
Actually it is 9k in total as the max financial fine the judge can impose is a 1,000 per offense and to a billionaire that is like stepping over a penny and cheap advertising @@tbone8839
I have a radical idea. Trump could talk about how he's going to lower your gas prices he could talk about lowering food prices he could talk about what he's going to do with infrastructure. What he doesn't have the right to do is put innocent people's lives in danger with his rhetoric.
@@franklin9400 Yes, just like he'll solve the border crisis, end the war in Ukraine and replace Obamacare with "something terrific". It's amazing how he makes these assertions but never goes into detail of how. Because last time he made inflation worse off the backend of Covid by giving a tax cut to the super rich.
Interesting. I had something spoken of here once on my school as a teacher about a smoking ban for 12-13 year old. One teacher mentione: if you cant maintain that ban, or teachers cant be bothered with it, just let it go. I hated that argument. Another thing: is insulting, threatening, abusing people political speech?
I don't know if Mr Ray is playing devil's advocate here but clearly there are limits to speech. Mr Ray is the type that will give his client the advice to say what you want and let the chips fall.
He's putting his pre-trial release agreement for his other trials in jeopardy . He could wind up in jail till the end of ALL of his trials. He could literally spend the rest of the YEAR behind bars BEFORE his likely convictionS.
Trump did not have to seek re-election. That was his choice. Had he not been offensive to so many people who don't have his platform, there wouldn't be a gagging order.
Ray doesn't seem to understand that Trump doesn't even make political comments. It's always about his trials. The gag order doesn't affect political stuff, just the trial at hand so all Trump needs to do is learn to keep his big mouth shut about a handful of people.
All that matters for Trump is that every news channels talks about him 24/7...It doesn't matter for what reason all that matters is that they talk about him... This is how he's gonna win this election in a landslide......
$9,000 bought him. 24/7 cable news airtime. Pretty great deal. Some would call it "A deal like no one has ever seen before, the best deal of all time." A single political ad usually costs much more.
See those waist-high barriers he stands behind when he talks to the reporters? Can we get those replaced by some that are nine feet high? He'd be a little safer, right? As a bonus he'd have to address the cameras from behind bars. It'd be a good look for him.
It gets to the point where you can see how its like a child trying to argue about the rules of a game. You know how when little kids only sort of get the rules of a game and as they play they try to change the rules to work for what they are playing instead of trying to play the game. To the Judge's point, consider why a candidate for President or even the actual President would need to make any kind of public statement about jurors, staff, etc of any criminal trial. It defies reason in the first place unless you are a computer program trying to find the Boolean logic for mapping all the angles or a child who doesn't understand the game. Sadly, the Justice System isnt a game and trying to play it like a game is precisely why its designed to work this way.
he is the biggest CON MAN America has NEVER known!,no one should be allowed to buy or coerce their way out of due process of law. he claims to have so much money, then why does he ask hard working people for Theirs!.
I'm pretty sure there's no bigger threat to Trump than being questioned under penalty of perjury... The question of effectiveness of a gag order boils down to what would be going on without it?
No of course not most of our legal system is ineffective when it comes to those with sufficient money Trump knows that well and has showed no actual fear of going to jail if found guilty
Not once have I heard Trump talk about what he plans to do IF he wins. All I hear is him complaining and playing the victim. That’s not the “political” speech I wanna hear.
We need more human moments on CNN for it to actually be good. That little bit in the beginning where she's doing the mobster accent was actually really nice and added some levity to this whole thing
Ok I only have one wish for this year...... Please have Joe Biden show up at the hush money trial and sit there all day awake while trump sleeps.... then come out and great the media!
Oh, come on the guy should’ve been thrown in jail people stop covering up for his lies. He imagines things and thinks they’re gonna be a rule or a law because he says
45 has told so many lues does he even know what's real any more. I for one if he violates gag order to be incarcerated but not sure if there is any underlying reasonmthey are not.
Like January 6th foul them once foul them foul twice shame on him because he was trying rally his supporters in this case and the followers don't want to have nothing to do with this because it's a criminal trial the first of more too come
This panel needs to ask themselves this question in front of the camera. Is Trump a criminal defendant first or is he a Presidential candidate first. … Trump chooses to run for office it’s his choice. So is his crime in attempting to cover up payments to suppress his chances of losing. Send him to prison and the nation becomes a better place for it.
Trump is a defendant who is a candidate for the presidency, full stop. He is under the same limitations as any other defendant who is out on bail. That's the law.
Is the gag order the point? Is it interesting…will it matter in the long run? NOPE. Will the media let it go? NOPE. WE DON’T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THIS. WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE MERITS. Y’all are addicted to DRAMA! 😖
I want to take a minute here to kind of think CNN I know you're not the most popular newscast station but you're absolutely right about things and I appreciate everything you've said good about Donald Trump because you're going to be having a new president and that will be Donald Trump and most of all maybe CNN you can be bright and shiny and be great again
