In today's video we rebuild the turbo and look at some of the other faults, theres some more issues along the way which is why it took 6 days for this video to drop!
Thoroughly enjoying the content Dean. I've binge watched all your vids over the last week or so and agree with many of the comments - please keep up the great work!
I’m not sure why but watching you’re detailed work on the Audi’s is just so interesting. I didn’t even know you could replace the core of a turbo. I would love to buy one of those Audi’s you’re working on because you just know it’s been done properly!! I’ve given up tele to watch videos like these please keep it up
hamwic BI if the shaft is okay you go get even cheaper by just buying the bronze turbo bearings in a rebuild kit. Have done this myself & the turbo was still going strong 40k miles later when I sold the car. Bearing kit was about £28 & they are still readily available online. You do need to centre-punch tiny dots on the turbo shaft & end nut before removal & put back on exactly the same to keep the shaft in balance.
I love the way motor factors will sell you a 'standard' or 'sports' spring. There are many different variants of spring. Being a DSG model it should have a stronger spring than a manual version due to the box being 40kg or so heavier. You might find it leans a bit as the other side will have an original 'DSG' spring.
avoid rolling the car without the driveshaft in the bearing , even if the other end isnt connected the the gearbox. or you may need to add a whelbearing to the list. its not going far and shouldnt really make a differance , got towed in a car that had its drive shaft pop so we took it out and by the time we got it home the wheelbearing was shot . as i said probably be fine just food for thought. great work and great content. living the life i wanna live .
I have those spring clamps too, yeah they are not ideal but far better than nowt, just don't stand with your head above it when compressed, especially when the nut is removed..
A 21mm spark plug socket will let you get the 7mm allen key on the top nut and most have a hex outer so you can use a spanner to turn the socket to tighten/loosen the nut.
Did the same thing on my mondeo but with turbo case and vanes on a car as i was afraid of snaping them three freakin bolts..that was a pain in the arse to put the ring back and set all vanes to correct position while whole turbo sits in horizontal position..but i did it 🥴
Always thought with turbo rebuilds, due to the high rpm they it was necessary to check the balancing to prevent it shaking itself to destruction. Not a mechanic, but would be interested to hear why it wasn't necessary in this case.
I’ve got the same car, keeps going into limp mode. Took it to a garage who confirmed a turbo fault code. Had it half a day and told me the cars running fine, nothing wrong with the turbo. It’s still going into limp mode 🤷♂️
That tool for parting the hub, I've done a few of these without it and struggled, so bought that spreader but haven't done one since, but whenever I look at the tool I think how does that work - assume u just use in the joint but it seems to small/weak to open it up however no idea how else you would use it. Couldn't just show us next time could you.....
Saving Salvage Given that the top mount was completely shot on the right side, I'd hazard a guess that the other side doesn't look much better either. I agree that replacing both springs is not always necessary but when you've already taken everything out, I don't see why not since they're only about 40£ tops.
Hi saving selvage iv got vw passat 2006 reg the slave cylinder leaking the clucth needs bleeding from time to time could you give me some advice please and also I like all of your videos iv watch nearly all of them
