The Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Boston Bruins in game 4 of their series, Auston Matthews got hurt and Mitch Marner and William Nylander were exchganging words, it's a really negative scene in Toronto right now Twitter: / deanerhd
You can't coach heart. Matthews was disappointed that he didn't get that 70th, and didn't seem too excited about the upcoming playoffs. He doesn't get paid for playoff games, and it shows. love him or hate him, Marchand makes almost HALF the money of at least 4 leaf players and plays with everything he's got every night.
interesting observation. I noticed that during the last few games of the regular season when he wasn't scoring, he did not celebrate when teammates scored.
do we know if it was actually Marner he was talking to? Regardless I can’t fathom that this level of frustration is being allowed on the bench. Not what Nylander said, but the fact that players are complaining so much that it’s annoying their teammates. Someone (a coach) needs to tell players to stfu and play at some point, you can’t have your players arguing on the bench like jesus christ, ofc everyone’s gonna tilt and lose focus if that shit’s going on.
I must have missed it. Lost focus on the game. That clip shows Matthews and Willy jawing at each other, with Mitch in the middle, tossing his gloves. What happened?
@@swavekbu4959 He looked like he was jawing with Matthews. What was Auston doing? Standing up for Mitch? The editing didn't tell the whole story, I guess.
@@truecrimejungle hey dont say that i feel bad for all leafs fans its not like they go completely fucking ballistic in comment sections when you tell them that this year isnt different from the rest…. wait 😂
A tale of two captains: Brad Marchand cranks it up to 11 when the playoffs start and becomes as clutch as David Ortiz. Meanwhile, John Tavares disappears and makes Toronto wonder why he wears the captains C.
5 years in to the most expensive rebuild in NHL history & they're getting booed off the ice after the 2nd period. Too many cooks in the kitchen? No grinding #3 line? No respect for their goalies? Captain invisible? An infant throwing tantrums for the camera? No true desire to win a cup for their fans? No will to sacrifice? I must repeat: 5 years in to the most expensive rebuild in NHL history & they are getting booed off the ice after the 2nd period.
I feel bad for the Leaf diehards who can't afford to go to the games. It's impossible to feel bad for the overpaid players or their corporate ticket base that keeps funding this failure.
@@leadnsteel1428 yes sell them all but keep the biggest disappointment who never show up in post season, really smart. Yours post show what is exactly wrong with this entire organisation, names before trophies. @@marcelobrozovic9872 true but who would take on his contract? The they really just need to clean house all the way up starting from Shanahan and get rid of all their 10 million dollar forwards.
@@leadnsteel1428 I am totally sure there will be at least 2-3 teams very interested in Mathews if he is on the market even with his biggest contract in the league.
New coach is needed but I also think Tavares and Marner need to go. Marner only tries to do enough to get the heat off him and Tavares is barely worth half of his contract at this point. That all being said.. Shanahan is the big one and we all know this is his team, you can put all the talking heads you want between him and this team but the truth is, he made this group and he chose what to do with it. If I was Treliving when I first showed up here, everyone of the coaching staff would have been gone and I would have done something shocking with the big four, literally whatever was available. Since he didn't do that, I can only assume that was the Shanaplan at play...
@@dylanjones268 I was a real supporter of Marner, but we played better without him for a stretch and he looked like a real baby last night. Tavares is a good player and he always looks like he's putting in the effort. If we can keep him at a lower amount, he's a good captain and works hard.
You know you have to wonder if it’s actually entirely the core’s fault and not the coach. You think they’d teach them how to play defence by now, and take away half the net to make Woll/Samsonov’s life easier.
@@emperoralvis6559 Keefe is the worst coach (coaching a great lineup) that the Leafs have ever had. He starts a goalie in the playoffs with garbage numbers. He has NEVER benched Marner. The lunatics run the asylum right now and Keefe does F all to reign them in
Here's the worst thing, they're all signed for next year with no move clauses. Meaning we could be seeing this all over again next year, besides who are you trading? Mathews? who just put up nearly 70 goals and an mvp quality season? Nylander? who just got an extension? Marner or Tavares? who's gonna take on them and you'll get nothing for them. Rielly is the only one I can see being traded, but then you're bringing back the same offense core with a different defense. Next year is gonna be no different.
I love the Bruins annual “Bouncing of the Leafs” event _every_ spring. I have zero expectation of a cup run for my B’s… buuut this comes _close_ to making up for that.
@@Razaranger1bruins ain’t winning the cup the bruins are second place to leafs at being the worst choke artists in the playoffs. The only reason Boston managed to win the cup in 2011 was because they were out choked by the luongo led canucks. @@McSorleyFan33 dude ur fried , 2013 Chicago was unreal , we didn’t choke , 2019 we went all the way to game 7 anything could have happened , last year everyone was hurt … this year everyone is healthy, we have the best goalies, best coached team .. remember this comment when the bruins are in the cup . Mark my words.
Matthews left because it was reported by the Leafs he has food poisoning. Was that an excuse because of what was going on at the bench. The Leafs are a mess, the Leafs will be strapped with contracts. They can't afford to retool the team especially with Matthews and Nylanders contract. If I was a GM and had to choose between Matthews or MacKinnon, I would choose MacKinnon because of his work ethic.
The Leafs GM screwed up big time by not upgrading the Leaf Core 4 over the past this. This isn’t the players - it is the Leaf Executives screwing up. 😀
But hey, at least Matthews will be getting over $13M starting next year, and Nylander will get his $11.25M starting next year. It's all about those contracts and regular season stats.
@@dereksbookscan't blow up something that doesn't wanna move 😂 NO MOVEMENT CLAUSES SUCK 🤣🤣🤣🤣 all their contracts on the big 5 have no movement clauses
In the regular season you can win a lot of games with a small group of highly skilled forwards. In the playoffs however that goes out the window. You win in the playoffs based upon things like your second and third D-men pairings and your second unit penalty kill. Requires a deep team with talent spread throughout. This isn't rocket science. Except to the Leafs. Everyone else has figured it out.
It's also much harder for skilled players to dominate games when the opponent is 100% effort on every shift. There are no easy shifts in the playoffs, and you don't feast off 10 power play games. It takes a special player, and no one on the Leafs has it.
Apparently Matthews left after 2nd intermission because of food poisoning, but this just goes to show the difference between a team like Boston and a team like Toronto....Bergeron played with a PUNCTURED lung in the playoffs and in Toronto in a pretty much a must win game for the Leafs, their star player doesn't even finish the game because of food poisoning. Shows you how much different a team these 2 are.
Last January I had the worst food poisoning and it sucked BAD. But I see your point. As a Blues fan, of course I know Bruins very well with 2019 and other matches. Blues and Bruins consider each other rivals for good reason. I do remember Zdeno Chara willing to play 4 games in the 2019 SCF against the Blues with a BROKEN JAW and even started is some of the games. It’s crazy how some of these players are willing to go through so much for their teams and others are not. Chara literally could’ve died during the 2019 SCF. But he chose to help the team instead. They might of fallen short of the cup that year. But, me and my father have nothing but the utmost respect for Chara for what he did.

I predict an OT Boston victory in game 5 with Woll in the Leafs net, standing on his head throughout the game only for them to get their hearts broken, yet again, by a Boston team willing to do whatever it takes.
Dubas gave up Hyman (50+goals), Moore (30+ w LA), Brown (Pk specialist), Marchment, Jared (awesome for Seattle) and Freddy (going on a cup run w Carolina. Oh yes and Kadri, who WON A CUP. 😅 SHANAHAN OUT.

Well, they r thinkg, "whats the point? We can't beat any of the OTHER teams in the playoffs right now! Might as well get to golfing and jet skiing." They know there is 1 month of summer, with 2 months of bad sledding surrounding it. You can't enjoy millions$ nearly as well when u r hurt....and didn't even make it past 2 rnd. Again.
Its a psychological issue in leafs town. This has been happening for years! Never fully rebuilding, outlandishly HIGH contracts, and, like most Leafs fans, self induced blindness to the situation. There is a reason good players have left that team, more importantly, that town. It sucks to go thru a real rebuild. But having a team thag gives you false playoff hopes by having an "ok" season regularly, with "much better" seasons sprinkled in, is just unrealistic in reaching the cup. They should have rebuilt for real before mathews got there, and they would be in a real position to make at least ECF. It sucks, but maybe the fans need to not boo their home team in a pre-season game, because the redwings are whipping them without any starting stars playing. Players want to leave because of the pressure of unrealistic expectations from fans on players who are playing on a team whose management wont go all in on having a well rounded team. As i understand it, the Leafs have very little in regards to draft picks coming in the next 5 yrs.(they r1 of lowest rated teams for draft picks coming up in their system) they have paid cup winning money to players (not mathews) who are literally not cup winners. And unfortunately, they wont be while in tor for yrs to come.
Seems to me, the 1st reply is what management has been saying for yrs. Proof of no true rebuild is example #1 Netminding. For the last 10 yrs or so. (When Leafs have had a good goalie, they have lacked in other positions enough that having a good net minder isn't enough) #2 they have no draft pool of 1st line players itching to get the opportunity; if they did, they would've called them up. #3....I will let others add to the list, so I'm not the only kid in class answering every question!
Leafs need two teams: Team A gets them to the playoffs, and Team B gets them to the cup. Send Mathews, Marner and Tavares to the golf course and keep Nylander, Reilly and the cheap players for the playoffs.
In this league the last thing a team wants to be is down 3-0 or 3-1 in the playoffs. We have seen teams come back from a 3-0 deficit and win so it is not over until it is over. If this happens again i do see a major shakeup within the organization.
Lou would never have gone all in on the core four like Shanahan has insisted. Obviously it is a fundamental mistake. Yes, Nylander is a very good player, but an opportunity was missed by not trading him this year to gain some balance.....Shanahan, Treliving and Keefe need to go....
Hogtown Hoser here... My Buddy is an avid Golfer and Leafs-supporter. I told him the Bruins would win the Series in five games - I didn't have the heart to say "FOUR!"...
McDavid gets 5 assists in 1 game, Hyman has 6 goals in 3 games... yall must be envious... I'm not making fun i would be too and you're absolutely right, Tavares and Marner gotta go.
It's not the core 4, the problem lies with coaching. Keefe is not the coach for this team. I realize that this comment has been made before but it is true. Paul Maurice of Florida is a prime example. The Leafs are just as talented as Florida, but Maurice knows how to utilize his talent that he has on the bench.
The classic hockey formula for success is a couple of star forwards, a star d-man, a kick-ass goalie, and a solid supporting cast. But Shanahan and Dubas thought that they were smarter than everyone else, and they decided to over-invest cap money in four star forwards. And with Tavares getting older and slower, they have four star contracts, but really only three star players. And of those, Marner has consistently shown that he is not a strong playoff performer. Now we have a situation where all four are either injured or old. The Leafs would have been better off if they had kept Freddie Anderson in net, and traded one of their marquee forwards for a great d-man and a bunch of draft picks or supporting players.
Without Matthews this would be a sweep. He's the only one worth anything. Every team they face knows that all they have to do is cover Matthews and the Leafs will lose. Welcome to Laughs nation!
There are multiple players on the Canucks that have scored multiple goals in one game than Austin Matthews. Lindholm, two Goals and OT winner tonight. Dakota Joshua, two goals. Brock Boeser got 3 tonight. I too feel bad for the leafs.
If you're core is comprised of talented players that have never had to fight hard to achieve success, you shouldn't be surprised they don't how to compete against more aggressive, motivated opponents.
Nobody can't get over the pressure of the Toronto market. Maybe if the Toronto market took on a winning and not a winging attitude they might win more.
It's the leaders. Keefe is a horrible coach. Woll should have started game 2. JT is NOT A CAPTAIN. Give the C to someone who cares. Keefe and JT don't demand ANY accountability
The Toronto Maple Leaf's are like Stan Mikita's Chicago Blackhawks, full of talent didn't play as a team and only won one Stanley cup. You build a team from the back end forward. Brenden Shanahan needs to go.
I’m not a leafs fan at all. But I hope lessons are being learned here about hockey. Anyone who’s watched enough hockey knows it isn’t over until it’s over. The game is a game of momentum swings and anything that can happen WILL happen.
I agree the core 4 isn't working but who in their right mind is going to make a trade for any of them after what they have shown in any playoffs ? The Tavares signing was a HUGE MISTAKE as well as keeping Keefe behind the bench. Sheldon is gone but they are stuck with Tavares for at least one more year and i don't see Matthews , Marner or Nylander going anywhere.
Not sure why this is such a shock honestly. The Bruins have owned Toronto in the playoffs for quite awhile now and they swept all 4 games in the regular season. It was strange to me when Bruin fans were upset we dropped our last 3 games and ended up second instead of first. I was happy because it meant Toronto in the first round and not Tampa, a team we have had issues with. Some teams just match up against other teams much better than they would others. Could boil down to systems etc. Throw in lack of confidence due to past results and this is what happens. What Toronto needs is to deal some of that salary cap weight they carry in 4 players and get a few Bertuzzii types and a good young goalie along with a few good draft picks. They will not win a cup with this crew. I see Edmonton as very similar. Certainly right now Skinner is very confident and playing well, but if he went down or lost that confidence, good bye Edmonton. Due to a much easier conference and division, Edmonton will win a round or 2 but no cup either. Not deep enough !!!!!!!! IMO
I had known for a long time that the Maple Leafs hadn't won a Stanley Cup since 1967, but I was stunned to learn last year that they had lost 18 consecutive Stanley Cup series! Geez Louise.
This HAS to be it for Tavares as a Leaf .His massive $11M salary is preventing the LEafs from getting effective depth peices in goal ,on D and bottom 6.They had to settle for Edmunson at the deadline becsue that was all they could afford .Treliving HAS to approach Tavares this summer and ask him to waive his NMC so they can get rid of him and the final year of that deal .If he refuses they should sit him out ,put him on the 4th line and piss him off until he asks to be sent out .
Yeah, it's time to split the Core Four. Sure. The thing is... how? Who will want to trade for any of them? Maybe I can see someone trading for Matthews - the only one Toronto probably wants to keep - but other than that, you can only move them by getting a similarly bad contract in return - something like the Oilers going Nylander for Nurse and Campbell. So, when they say "Let's give those guys one more shot", I hear "It's not like we can move any of them anyway".
I have been saying this for years. Get rid of the 'Starts' and get players that work hard....like Bertuzzi and Domi. A whole bunch of them is better than these barbie dolls.
1. Keefe 2. Marner 3. Tavares You need a coach with a spine to stand up to players and actually make them accountable. You need a number 1 D-Man (for Marner). You need an actual captain to lead by example and ramp up the players' intensity.
It's more so the coaching. Look at van. They would not be the same team without tocchet. They have been doing the shanaplan for too long with the most embarrassing results imaginable only to keep hitting the redo button. Leafs ownership is the definition of insanity.
Boston will win game 5 too and send the Leafs packing Bruins in 5. The Leafs lack the grit and toughness in the playoffs especially from the core 4. It’s an absolute disgrace and an embarrassment why Matthews didn’t play in the third period. I mean this your season on the line for him not to play because of an illness nope that doesn’t fly with me this is the playoffs I don’t care how sick you are. I agree they have so many chances with the core 4 it’s time to finally split this current group of players on the Leafs. I’m very disappointed in the Leafs game 4 performance the fans have every right to boo and be upset they are big money to go watch the Leafs in the playoffs. It’s shameful how easily they just fold up like a cheap suitcase in the playoffs year after year. And I don’t consider last year a success either they only won one game in the second round against a Florida team that they were favourites to win against before the series started winning one game in the second round I don’t consider that a success
Will never feel bad for the leafs. They’ve had 68 years to make something happen, and yet they’ve been nothing but garbage for that entire time. Will forever amuse me knowing they’re leafs fans out there (who’re the most classless, stupid, delusional people ever) that actually think they’ll contend for a cup with matty (who ain’t top 5) Marner, Rielly tavs, and willie on their team. Dumpster fire franchise.
Most NHL teams build a 23 man roster. The Leafs build a 4 man roster and rebrand it as a 'Core Unit'. Most NHL teams compete for the Stanley Cup. The Leafs provide 'Core 4' entertainment during the regular season.
