Can I just say that I am absolutely dying to see your home come to a finish. You have brought two adorable children into this world and still your amazing home remains an unfinished project. How you two have remained as sane as you are, and still getting along well enough to continue having children is a testament to just how amazing your are as a family. Amazing. The peek around the corner was priceless. I grew up with my dad teaching me how to use tools,build, etc. This past weekend we built a headboard together (I’m going on 56, he is 78).

These kids have great parents, gives hope for the future.

Spencer, an old reno trick- when an original wall doesn't have blocking where modern cabinets are concerned; locate the studs in the walls and "plate" the wall with sheet plywood, screwed off into the studs. The plywood will carry the load out to the studs and to the floor/foundation. Cover any edge gaps or visible plywood with a trim appropriate for the cabinets and ya'lls taste! Spencer, Kenzie- I think I can safely say all here love little Beau as much as we do you- she is small and at that stage where "attention" is the only thing that will generally "keep the noise down". But when you are shooting that isn't always easy or possible; mic both of you separately so yo can " fix" it in the editing phase- reduce the "background volume" so your voices can be heard- and let Beau "sneak in" to the scene any time! She has stolen all our hearts, I'm thinking, and shushing her will only frustrate you two- so another method? Spencer, you have definitely taken the "it's easy" thought out of the equation for a container built home- and succeeded more slowly than the two hoped- and you have done an awesome job, stunning considering you had to learn most of the "tricks" OJT style! Kudos! FR PS; I may have spoken too soon! Just moving that top rail up and inch and a half should have put the screws holding the rail into the top plate of the a wall- every bit as good as the plate idea. I see more awesome coming! Although I saw lots of ikea type fasteners, those aren't an ikea product- I've renoed two kitchens that were"ordered" from ikea and the kits and directions were much better than I expected! And my real job is as a plumber/contractor; I am not a "regular carpenter", I just play one when I can't get out of it! FR

You guys are amazing. A wonderful Mom and Dad who are "building" an amazing life together.

Being able to follow this young couple's journey, as they build their home, and their family, takes us away from all the troublesome things that are happening in the World today. Besides the DIY stuff, it is such a pleasure to see two people who obviously are very much in love and who love their children as much as you two do.

You two continue to amaze us! The Ikea kitchen brings back so many memeories. Bought an REO six years ago thinking we just needed to replace cabinets and flooring.Well, turned out there had been a rat infestation (not so truthful inspector and agent) These two old birds (now 58 and 70 now) tore down walls, had others do flooring and first coat of paint. We did all the rest. Re-framing, Ikea kitchen and bathroom. Four months living in our RV in side yard in the desert heat. We'd do it again. Enjoy your wee family and the fruits of all your labor!!

We remodeled our kitchen with an Ikea kitchen. The first couple of cabinets my husband put together were not fun, then once he got the instructions, they really came together beautifully. Walking in from work when he finished was like walking into a model home. They really make a beautiful kitchen. Designed your way.

Have you got plenty of ventilation for the dissipation of the heat from the back of the refrigerator. It needs very good airflow to keep the power it uses to the minimum. If it cannot get rid of the heat efficiently it will run for longer and use more electricity. A really major step towards getting the whole house fully liveable. Great job.

The thing I like about Spencer as someone who spent most of my life in construction, is that he doesn't stop progress. When rain stops him from using a chop saw outside the house rather than stop, he moves on to something he can do right now such as assembling the cabinets. I put IKEA cabinets in my laundry room, (The ones with the ironing board inside) and they are a real pain in the butt to assemble. Kensie is right.

I know we don't see all the behind the scene but those of us who do our own work, etc know. That being said kudos to you both as it's been over 3 years and you've invited us to share all you've experienced and your growth. Thank you

I would have been glad to give you some pointers on kitchen installation. I installed complete kitchens for a living back in the 1980s for a period of 8 years throughout many construction types, apartment buildings, and single-family dwellings. Tips: for example, it is always best, if possible, to install the upper cabinets before the base cabinets. I always laid out all the uppers for one wall on their backs on the floor, screwed them all together, and lifted the whole lot against the wall on story sticks with all holes drilled in the backs for the location of the studs and with a screw gun and screws at the ready then fastened to the wall along the level line. I never had such a metal rail for upper cabinet install. Always only drilled holes through the wood members as needed per the stud location.

There’s just something magical about kitchens. We remodeled ours and loved it!! Congratulations on such a big step 💪

Hey guys don't worry about the top cabinets not having a solid rail!!! I've built Custom Kitchen Cabinets my whole life!!! I'm now going on 56 years old!!! As long as you get a few screws into one cabinet!!! You can hang the rest of your cabinets off that one cabinet that you have mounted into the studs!!! I've installed many many of sets of cabinets and I've only ran into I'd say two whole houses that's had a mounting cross studs for top cabinets!!! It's a dream if you can do it!!! But I don't see any other problems in your kitchen!!! The standard distance from the floor to the bottom of your top cabinets is 54"!!! But it honestly looks great!!! I'd hire you in a heartbeat brother!!! Only thing I can see that you may need is Jesus Christ in your life!!! Although I'd say you already have that taken care of!!! But God Almighty is my amazing Father and He gave His only Son to come to earth and die for you guys and myself and the entire world 🌎!!! I absolutely love your guys videos!!!

a lot of new kitchens have the open shelf concept I think you will be pleased with that decision / especially on items that you use frequently / just buy quality items that you are proud to display and are aesthetically pleasing

The kitchen looks great! So happy for you that in another three weeks or so, McKenzie will have a fully functioning kitchen for the first time in years and will no longer have to trek over to the barn to cook meals. By Thanksgiving, hopefully, your home may just be complete! Crossed fingers! It's been a long time coming!
