I absolutely love the fact you're super transparent and are being so real makes me feel like I'm not alone learning about budgeting properly and sticking to it. My biggest advice is sticking to ONE CREDIT CARD only. I recommend using the credit card that has the best point system or cash back. You got this, you'll get through this and save so much! Proud of you and am excited to see what happens ❤❤❤

As someone who had to learn the hard way, the best policy is to have NO credit cards! Especially if you are using them to subsize a lifestyle you can't actually afford.

Love the transparency. I'm a new subscriber and I came across your channel and I relate to you! I graduated college, got a new Mercedes, spent over $100 monthly on Starbucks, traveled abroad many times a year, wore expensive clothing and watches, bought expensive gifts...what slapped me into reality and changed my perspective about money was watching Graham Stephan's video about the $71 cupcakes. I appreciate money more and realize that we have to save for our future. I stopped thinking that I would have a partner to "split the cost." Really helped me open my eyes about my expenses. Looking forward to following you on your journey!

Yes to all of this!! When I quit my six-figure tech job because of a family emergency, I remember feeling so shocked by how little money I *actually* needed to live. Having TIME (to shop thoughtfully, make meals, etc) makes such a difference, and I also found that I was doing far less spending in general because I was happier!! Turns out a lot of my impulse-buys were just to get a quick dopamine hit after a stressful day at work. Love your content - keep it up.

hi zoe! new subscriber here and just want to say that I love how authentic and transparent you are. I was in a similar situation November 2019 - got laid off from my dream job (with no emergency fund in place) and then went straight into the pandemic. it was one of the hardest times in my life mentally and financially, but also the most humbling. it taught me so much about personal finance, spending habits and the importance of having a plan and budget in place. I know you'll come out of this experience stronger and thanks for sharing your journey with us. wishing you all the best 💗

Zoe, I would recommend doing a no buy. I did one for what was supposed to be two weeks, or the length of the paycheck, but I'm now going into my second month with it. It was interesting to see how much more money I could save not buying anything I didn't expressly mean, and it's also interesting to see how long I've been able to maintain this. I actually don't even fully want a lot of the things I've been buying. There are things in my head that I wanted to buy this entire time, and I probably will want to know by is over, but it's a nice way to practice self-restrict I also found it easier to track when I was only buying things I wanted on my credit card, and things I needed like drug screens and gas on my debit card. That way every time I looked at my credit card statement my name all that money but as many that I didn't exactly have to spend. There was no looking back at the statement and wondering if I was getting groceries

Girl, I absolutely love how you share your finances. I’m a hostess in a restaurant they pay really well but it’s not enough for how much my rent and my expenses are. I constantly give myself $20-$80 to expend a week on either food or fun and it’s so little. I’m trying to take over my finances and I’ve been writing down where every single little penny goes and it gives me a lot of clarity, I don’t want to be paycheck to paycheck anymore and watching your content it’s inspiring and encouraging because I know that I’m not the only one. Have you not applied for unemployment insurance? You should receive about $500 gross per week. Also, your rent of $1500 per month is quite expensive for one person to pay. That seems to be your biggest expense. Since you work from home and you have a car, you may consider moving away from the city and into a smaller place where the rent is lower. Good luck!

Downsizing your life and becoming more frugal can be extremely difficult, so remember to have grace for yourself as it´s a learning process. I went from living in the U.S. (basically having everything and anything I wanted) to moving to Spain at age 22 with no job, no plan, and only 100usd cash. I stopped buying clothes, stopped getting my nails done, no car, travel was off the table, and I was literally just hustling to pay my rent. When the pandemic hit I feel like it didn´t affect me so much since I had already adopted a more simple life. Now, I´m finally looking to get a real job and make more money, and I feel like once that happens I´ll be way more prepared to manage my finances in a more practical way than if I had never moved abroad. Good luck and remember you have an amazing support system in place (family, friends) and in the end you´ll come out stronger and wiser than before!

I wish you the best on your financial journey. I've definitely been feeling a bit of lifestyle creep and trying to rebound from Christmas, so I'm hoping to keep better track of my finances next paycheck and decrease my luxury/nonessential spending and see how much I'm actually spending on groceries versus random stuff I throw in my cart when grocery shopping. Hoping to use my tax return to get ahead on my Christmas spending next year by opening another Sinking fund.

Damn girl. I can’t relate more….. I feel like you’re my therapist right now I’m not even kidding. Everything you’re explaining is stuff I’m experiencing. I have to save for my wedding and honeymoon and now being fired I am lost and confused and depressed… because of the money. You’ve helped me understand that yes a slap in the face stings but you’ll eventually feel better and learn from mistakes. (in my case, not yours). Thank you so much for making this video. 🥰💕now I know that losing my job isn’t the end of the world and I can survive this too. “This too shall pass” is something I tell myself any time I hit a bump in the road. Maybe random or meant to be but I just watched your video. And I can totally relate. I quit my job and of course my worst fear. But listening to your similar financial situation. It can be spiraling 🌀 It feels great that I’m not alone. Plenty of people trying to find the things they love versus your example you provided; of living near your laptop and cell phone. So at least know you’re making a difference and bring comfort to circumstances people usually don’t want to talk about. I appreciate you and I wish you success in RU-vid.

I personally don't think a vacation (cheap or not) is something when not working a good idea. WITH THAT being said, I love how you are trying to adjust in other areas and you are fully aware of your situation and have a game plan on how to tackle everything. Good for you for not letting it totally ruin you and slapping yourself back to positivity and into action. Keep up the great work, you will get your goals. Happy for you.

Thanks!! The vacation was booked and planned long before I lost my job. Thankfully, it was really helpful in helping my mood turn around. :)

@@ZoePritchard That makes sense too, there's definitely something to having a healthy mind. If that's what did it for you, then definitely worth it, plus as you said it was before you lost the job so money already spent.

Appreciate you sharing your journey, especially as a canadian youtuber, I really like your content around lifestyle creep and stuff! I've been in a similar boat with lifestyle creep, spending too much on stupid things and living paycheck to paycheck on a good job. x

I’m in the same boat as you. I lost my job laid off too back in mid September after 26+ years !! I did not live pay check to pay check though and I have a fully funded retirement fund and contributed to my pension. I also saved towards an ER fund for times like this. Since I worked for my company for 26+ years and was laid off I got a Severance Package for 14 months and will be able to apply for EI after my Severance ends.

I wish you the very best. You seem to be a very smart and articulate person and can easily get another job if you desired. Hate to say it but I wish everyone can experience job loss and face realities of life. I’ve been there and all the hardships and saw how many friends did not understand what I was going through being frugal with budget etc. learning to pick yourself up and a good life lesson. Good luck to you. I will be an avid watcher of your videos!

I was pretty fortunate when I was let go in 2020 during lockdown. I got 11 months of severance pay with benefits. I packed up a U-hall and went to Toronto where my mom lives and where I'm living now. I did find another engineering job working for the same company, oddly enough, but at our Toronto office and I got to keep my severance since they hired me as a new employee in a different country.

Love your videos! I too would love the timestamp feature, and would even suggest pulling up more numbers and visuals on screen so it's easier to follow along for visual learners! I struggle to process information when it's a long stretch of one person talking as it can be an "overload" of single-input processing, so even images in the top right with what you're referring to helps break it up and makes it really get it!

Moving away from an unsustainable lifestyle is a good long-term plan you'll never regret. I think the more of an 'independent variable' you become, vs 'dependent variable,' the more the positive outcomes of all this will snowball. Also, financial consultant might be your perfect fit.

Somethings you can do immediately 1. Make some journals on canva and bookbolt and publish to amazon kdp. Post the link for your subscribers to buy. Maybe make it a budget journal cuz your videos are about budgeting. 2. Make some merch on one of those sites that connect to your youtube videos. Create a logo or meme and upload to site for shirts and hoodies (they print on demand) 3. Take some of your money and invest in creating an airbnb. (I did this when my unemployment ended. I spend 4k creating the airbnb at a friends property. Its currently booked. I make an extra $1000-1500 a month. 4. Signup to do freelance on upwork. 5. Do liquor promos at grocery stores (pays $30-40 an hour) 6. Create a course that we can buy from you. What can you teach us?

This is not me bragging or talking noise just my opinion. I went from $75K USD to $120K USD salary in 2 years at age 25 to 27. I noticed all you do is upgrade your lifestyle. Shoes, watches, eating out etc. I am now at $150K USD at age 28 and spend about as much as I made at 25 (minus rent because I have a 2 bed apartment to work from home) but it really is so true. One luxury turns into many. Took me about a year to snap out of it and get back to reality. Again not bragging because I have buddies making $250K USD my same age who live on a more simple lifestyle than me.

Lifestyle creep is real. You literally gain nothing by constantly upgrading. I live in an expensive “tech” area where it’s the norm to make 6 figures but people are still living paycheck to paycheck because they are constantly upgrading. Once people wake up (myself included definitely not perfect) we will spend less money and have more to invest.

Zoe girl…when I saw that coffee I was like why does it look like water? There’s like an inch of what looks like water at the top. I’ve used French presses for years I would put 5 tablespoons of coffee there and 8 Oz of hot water. You can also freeze coffee ice cubes so it doesn’t dilute and add the boujie oat milk
