CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A female water skier and her friend are killed when they are attacked by a large great white shark.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Despite being a less well-regarded virtual remake of the original film, Jaws 2 earned a tidy sum at the box office by combining its predecessor's winning formula with the popular teen horror craze, helping to spawn the era of blockbuster sequels. Roy Scheider returns as Sheriff Martin Brody, whose small resort town of Amity is poised to bounce back from the economic hardship it encountered after becoming widely known as the site of vicious shark attacks. But at the same time that Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) is welcoming a real estate developer to Amity, two divers disappear and a party of waterskiers is consumed by a shark. The incidents are explained away as accidents, but Brody knows better, tipping his bullets with cyanide and forbidding his sons Mike (Mark Gruner) and Sean (Marc Gilpin) to participate in a teen sailing regatta. Everyone foolishly chalks up Brody's fears to trauma-induced paranoia, and the regatta goes forward, with a hungry great white trailing the youthful contestants and hungrily picking them off one by one. Director Jeannot Szwarc would later helm another sequel, Supergirl (1984).

@@colliric Yeah, I don't think the helicopter pilot gets eaten unless there is a cut out scene, but even then . . . The scene got cut out, so he must've drowned because we don't see him after the the helicopter goes under.

It souppose that the shark was shaking the boat and forced her to throw the fuel over herself. By the other side, the panic in that situation could make her no think very well before shot the bengale. The shark turn on fire and gone down the water leaving her alone with boat in blames. The fuel tanks burnt and the boat blew up.

Jaws 2 didn't suck. In fact, it was the only good Jaws sequel. The 3rd and 4th films just felt like Jaws parodies. I prefer to pretend like they don't exist.

That's an accurate description for Superman 3 and Superman 4 and for the Joel Schumacher Batman movies. Superman 3 had random comedic moments with Richard Pryor even though the Superman franchise is supposed to have a serious tone to it while Superman 4 had Superman fight some guy who scratches him with his nails and they end up fighting in slow motion on the moon. Batman Forever felt more like the Adam West TV show from the 1960's and Batman and Robin was one giant toy commercial. There's a good reason why the Superman films were abandoned for so long and it wasn't a bad idea for them to reboot the Batman movies after Batman and Robin.

Superman Returns definitely helped me forget about the poor quality of the previous two Superman films. The video game for Superman Returns felt like it was made to help people forget about Superman 64. I don't envy anyone who owns Superman 64.

True story: My cousin played the shark in this scene. He said the suit was heavy and he had trouble keeping up with the waterskier, but he made it work as best he could.

I have to say that Tina was the most unfortunate character in that movie! She witnesses an explosion little realizing that one was killed by a shark and the other unwittingly blew herself up! She almost lands on top of an Orca carcass, then watches helplessly as her boyfriend falls in the water, the boat she's on gets pushed away by the shark, sees him get slammed against the boat in the shark's mouth after which he gets munched and to top it all off, she's found by Brody, Ellen and Lenny as a quivering wreck under the storage compartment! That's what I call having a shit time!!!

Hmmmm, I beg to differ. Tina at least survived, despite being taken away as a babbling vegetable. (On top of that, after witnessing the other events, you would think she would be suspicious of the water before going way out on a boat with her boy friend). I felt most sorry for Marge, who saved little Sean, only to get eaten herself by the shark. (Her troubles would be for naught, as Sean would get killed years later). I really wish that annoying screamer chick, Jackie, would have gotten knocked off.

@Undiscovered667 While the shark's gender isn't clear in the movie, in the Jaws 2 novel, the Shark is reffered as a female (Bruce's mate). The only Shark that has been explicitly portrayed as female was Brucetta in Jaws 3-D The rest of the sharks tend to be male

Fun fact: In the novel "The Beast," also written by Peter Benchley, there is a similar scene like this, in which an old lady witness the attack from shore. Beast was written after this movie, so it's evident that Peter Benchley drew inspiration from this scene, which wasn't written by him in the first place.

I reckon the creepiest bit in "The Beast" is right at the beginning when that married couple are adrift in their yachts lifeboat. The wife thinks she smells something strange like spilled chemicals, the husband leans over in the boat to check, the boat rocks slightly, then when he turns around his wife is just gone.

In the book, it’s a woman and her husband driving the boat. He spots the shark following her and tries to bring his wife back to the boat but she thinks he’s trying to stop her fun because the shark has dived. It gets her and he shoots at the shark and the first shot gets the tank and the boat blows up. It’s chilling.

Jaws 2 is underrated I remember it coming out, there were as many iconic scenes in this as there was in the 1st Jaws and it still had the same frightening effect back then. Jaws 3 and 4 killed the franchise, 3 was not a bad movie in itself just the effects and the shark was horrible, seemed madness that you could actually go backwards back then but they somehow managed it.

Referring to a comment earlier before, the cinematography was great. Was it better than the previous film? Maybe, you decide. But anyway this scene is by far the most iconic from "Jaws 2" ; how it brilliantly portrays the dorsal-fin of the shark lurking directly across from the water-skier preparing for the kill.

She didn't mean to pour it on herself. She tried to get the shark but it was moving the boat and made it difficult to balance.

Jaws 2 was a pretty good sequel. Mainly because Roy Schieder was still in this one. This scene is kind of annoying though, not because she accidentally poured gas over herself and then lit a flare, but because they didn't see a giant shark attacking the boat from shore 🤔

The boat was relatively far from shore, so no one in shore was paying atention. It's the same reason why nobody heard the woman's screams

In Jaws 1 and Jaws 2 the underwater screaming all sound the same whether it was a man or woman. The most disturbing underwater sounds came from the 3rd film where the guy gets trapped inside the sharks mouth You can tell they used different sound effects in that scene

At least the first two Jaws films were very well-edited (the first one an Oscar for editing; the editor on the second one got an Oscar for "Dances With Wolves" a little over a decade later) because they combined real shark footage shot by Ron and Valerie Taylor off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia with the mechanical shark. Obviously, almost all of the attacks are fake sharks. People love to shit on the shark effects, but I think a lot of them are pretty convincing, especially when you consider what they had to go through to produce them.

I know sharks can swim fast, but it can catch up to a speedboat? Like sharks can swim like 35mph or so but a speedboat can do at least 50mph

agreed. Not to mention the speed is inconsistent. Sometimes the shark is going slow, but to catch up to that boat means going more than 40mph (too fast for a Great White and even a Mako shark can barely keep up with that)

I agree that a speedboat could generally outrun a shark. Pus sharks aren't exactly known for chasing down water skiers. LoL But the boat didn't look like it was moving all that fast. Maybe 25-35 MPH tops.
