The Xtreme is a good option but the Xtreme is known for having really bad battery issues, when charging it will jump from 1 light to 4 lights in under a minute

Well my pretty rich friend has a xtreme my other friend has an sony extra bass. The whole school can agree on the fact that the sony sounds better.

In real life they sound mostly comparable. The JBL seems to be louder bc of their highs, bud mid and low range sony is the leader there. If you search for bumping sound you'll have to go with sony all the way! (I own the xb40- it's GOAT ^^) balance is better with JBL but, in my opinion, not worth the money :)

The Sony XB40 has the built-in equalizer that naturally works in flat, it does not deliver all its power, so the equalizer can be adjusted, it will give all its power, as well as improve its treble .... I already tested side by side and the XB40 is stronger overall and has sharper sharpness than Xtreme when equalized in the Sony application. Xtreme is pocpoc!

Just bought two XB40's right now - Stereo. They are charging for the first time use. By the way, you cannot compare Sony sound quality with that of JBL because they focus on different sound ranges intentionally. JBL is always focused on midrange while Sony is focused on lowrange.

Clearly that, JBL give a louder volume, Bass is more faster, deeper than Sony. But these "Xtreme" things is too popular. The bass/sound of "Xtreme" is too popular, compared with the thousands of the other portable speakers nowadays. Sony gives a warmer sound, a special sound and bass and range of sound, which you only found it on Sony headphones/speakers. And I love it. Because it is unique.

I wanted to chime in since I have owned all these speakers. Jbl Flip3, Charge 2+, Charge 3 and Xtreme. Now I have the Sony XB20, XB30 and XB40. So, JBL definitely set the standard in all of their speakers. My number one with JBL is the Charge 3. It's nearly the perfect portable speaker, but may be outshined by the XB30 for the price difference. Good mid bass punch, nice mids and okay highs. The highs on all JBL speakers can get harsh at full volume though in my opinion. The Xtreme is awesome but I find it to be somewhat annoying to carry around. I'd rather just take my Braven XXL if I'm going to need a shoulder strap and have decent true low bass. The Xtreme has excellent punch but only for mid bass..and it's definitely too boomy for indoor use. It's mids are good but highs can get piercing. The worst thing about JBL is the passive drivers on the ends. It makes all of their speakers susceptible and it would have been so easy to design a protective mesh for the ends. I was never able to throw my JBL speakers in a backpack without being paranoid. I didn't like that. It also makes all of their speakers sound slightly hollow. But they do all have reliable sound, water resistance and are very rugged. Now with Sony....i find more sound balance, better prices and no issues with shrill highs at max volume. The XB30 is my favorite in their line up. It's $89 at best buy whereas the Charge 3 still remains above $120. The XB30 sounds more balanced and refined if you turn up the bass and highs on the eq. It also has lower bass db than the JBL Charge 3 and has a louder high volume. Now, the XB40 is excellent too in my experience, despite the mixed reviews. It really just seems like a larger version of the XB30. If you get in and adjust the EQ settings they nearly sound identical with the XB40 being slightly louder with deeper bass. It is a very nice speaker for $150. So to help with this video review...if you want loud and boomy for pool parties and camping...get an Xtreme. It's a very nice speaker for the size but not for the price of $220. But know you won't be throwing this in your backpack to take with you. And since the mid-range bass is so boomy in this it makes it nearly unlistenable indoors. The XB40 is a better all around speaker if you want to be able to do alot more with it. You can actually throw this in your backpack or just carry it with you as it's just a bigger XB30 and has no passive radiators exposed. And even though it's smaller than the JBL, it actually reaches deeper bass notes where the Xtreme just doesn't play certain low frequencies. It's also half the size of the Xtreme but gets nearly as loud at max volume without distortion. The mid bass on the Xtreme will reach further though. The XB40 also sounds great indoors or outdoors with the xtra bass button choice and EQ tweaked on the app. The only weakness I found in the Sony speakers is the annoying battery issue. It cuts the volume majorly at under 20% battery life and basically makes it not even listenable. So really the JBL speakers are probably going to have twice the battery life than the Sony's if that's important to you. So there's my experiences, hope it helps!

I have both along with the xb 30 and the xb 40 has a fuller more pleasant sound with a lot of bass but not too much. The treble on the xtreme is a deal breaker. Btw the xb 30 is probably the best overall speaker at $100 on sale from $150 right now

I have the charge 3 and it is the best speaker out I have ever owned and better than any speakers that my friends have other than the xtreme

Best Buy has the Sony SRS-XB40 for $149! I'm a JBL buyer but for this price Sony took my money this time.

I noticed that JBL just released a firmware upgrade on the Charge 3 so that it now works with JBL Connect+. I would hope that the Xtreme will also get an update soon.

Want the room completely full of sound? JBL Xtreme X2 in Stereo! Trust me on that.

JBL Xtreme has such good sound quality that I think the improvements on extreme 2 will be reduced to the lights, maybe the weight... I´d guess. Not willing to wait. Thanks man.. your video made me take my choice.

The Sony has great clarity/bass. The JLB on the other hand, is louder with extreme bass...... damn, it’s hard to choose. Sony is perfect though. If you want signature sound, go with the Sony. If you want extreme bass and loudness, the JLB. To me, I rather have both🤭😅😂🤣

As it turns out I bought the hardier number longer battery life & improved water proofing & fun little light feature. The aux in connection was essential for me. The app interface works great. I’ve always known & loved Sony and I feel for Black Friday they’re a good deal

Ended up going with the XB40 even tho both were on sale on black Friday. So far the Sony is great, no issues and love the illumination options!

i think the 20% battery life feature is smart by SONY. Because although companies say you can use lithiums to 0% and charge quickly to 100% like samsung phones. this is actually bad because you only get about 1000 or maybe 600 cycles depending. They are saving the battery for you by making you charge it. You should really be only letting even phones get to 20 or 40% and only charging to 80% in an ideal world. I try to if i am at home so i can get longer out of my phones since they are sealed and i cant replace my battery anymore. So i think they are doing it for your benefit but companies can't come out and say it directly as people will think they have ashitty battery and shop somewhere else as they are ill informed and are easily swayed by marketing.

I have the Sony XB40 and the extra bass option mode on it makes the speaker so muddy. Take my advice and just get the JBL Xtreme 2 (a lot better than the Xtreme) or the Charge 3 (since the Charge 4 was kinda a disappointment). JBL is the way to go.

I use sony srs xb40 last 2years and now I upgrade my speaker with jbl speaker. Which one I pick? Sony's mid range is very powerful.

Idk if its just me but the xtreme sounds so much more clear with pronounced high and more punchy bass. Plus it's very noticeably louder and not as muddy and squashed sounding.

In my opinion, the xb40 is good for either outdoor or indoors listening, but it's better off playing indoors because the sounds better when you put it in a corner of a wall which doubles the bass and the light features just look better in a dark room, on the other hand the jbl is better off outdoors, because of its loud sound and you don't need to put it in a corner, the way jbl tuned it makes all it's songs sound bass boosted, so when you listen to it outside you will have no problem hearing the sound and it's bass no doubt, this is just my opinion because I have both and I prefer the Xtreme outside and the xb40 inside

I have the xb40, i mean, two of them, and i have a friend who have a jbl charge 3 and i have to admit, jbl have a really good sound quality, but the sony have a way more sound power, and i love the sony app, because my phone doesn't change the speaker volume by pressing the volume up or down, and the sony app allows me to control the volume of the speaker (and u can also change light, turn them off, see the battery level, change the internal equaliser and even connect with others xb40)

I got the jbl extreme, and it's really loud, and almost destroyed my ear drums (Quick tip: hold Bluetooth and minus button for 10 seconds, after that the jbl extreme will get more louder, but strong bass can only make the passive radiator to move, but there might be a distortion)

Sony sounds pretty good for having no tweeters and 1 less passive radiator. Sony needs to add 1 tweeter to this and the sound will be perfect.

The Sony seems to play lower than the JBL.. JBL seems to play lots of highs and frankly nothing much else... Yet you said you would likely pick the JBL over the sony... Does the JBL sound better in real life vs the Sony or is your recording off on the JBL?

I have the xb30 and i love it, its got way more bass than your mic seems to be picking up. There is also a 100 dollar difference. Sounds like you have the extra bass button off on the sony

My big problem with the JBL Extreme, is everytime​ I max out the volume, it would get fuzzy and messed up in some quality. Even when it has more bass. Does the Sony speaker do the same or not? I don't know if it happens with every JBL Extreme, but it happen when I first bought it.
