About Good Omens Season 1: The End of the World is coming, which means a fussy Angel and a loose-living Demon who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon. Watched the series over three days. Although it was an enjoyable experience, and some of the set piece interactions between Aziraphale and Crowley were scintillating; it lacked the high-level of plot coherence found in the first series, which left me rather disappointed at the opportunity missed. The analogy about reading a French novel springs to mind.

I think this scene builds an interesting parallel with the final one, in that it shows everything that sets up Crowley's and Aziraphale's relationship for inevitable crisis despite their undeniable love for each other : lack of communication and misunderstandings, Aziraphale's unwillingness to truly listen to Crowley's opinions and feelings, Crowley wanting to protect Aziraphale from harm without understanding that he's also making his own choices, and their fundamental difference in dealing with a threat, Aziraphale wanting to face it and deal with out of a moral responsability, without always realizing the cost, and Crowley wanting to protect what they have by running away (or in this case casting the problem away). anyways these character arcs are fascinating but they need to be finalized and that's why we absolutely need season 3!!

Perfect analysis! I love the idea of Azi being a person of action and moral responsibility, but puts everything else before himself and doesn’t know how to acknowledge his own needs or who is truly more important to him emotionally. He’s a naturally loving person and prioritizes being kind to anything and everything. But he’s not used to letting people in and having someone else love him just as much if not more. It’s complex and so fascinating.

Crowley got progressively more snarky and growly as time passed…in Biblical times he was playful and outgoing, almost jovial, and then as Time wore on he becomes more sarcastic, more broody, more cynical…of course, he clearly loves Aziraphale just the same, and he clearly still cares about humans and the World, but he’s definitely got more of an edge to his personality now, especially in Season 2. Like the millenia have worn him down into a stoicism that wasn’t there centuries ago. He’s still an optimist (even if he hides it), but he’s definitely a good deal more cynical than the Crowley we first met at the Garden of Eden. He’s even slightly different from the personality he had in Season 1 (which according to the show’s timeline was now several years ago). It’s brilliant character development.

One of the reasons season 1 was so good was that all-in-all it had a gentleness to it and an underlying sense of fun, and love and forever togetherness for A & C. This time you can see Gaiman's darker-side influence (which obviously makes sense) wherein their relationship is less kind/sweet, more adversarial and raw. The overall tenderness shown in S1 (which I was hoping to experience again) isn't here. In the real life crazy, angry world, I wanted that bit of lightness that made those characters so beloved. This ending is depressing. It will be interesting to see how fans through fanfic react. And, if it takes another 3-4 yrs for a S3 to wrap up, that is a long, long time to sit with such negative emotions. So, if there is a S3 (pleaseeee Prime) wherein A "sees the light" and A & C can actually find contentment and love, there will always be that shadow of C one more time confessing his love and being relegated to second choice behind A's 'greater good' beliefs. That said, the story line was much more mature. I liked how Nina and Maggie took on C with an adult "don't attempt to manipulate us" talk, though I thought Gabriel and Beelzebub's relationship, writing wise, seemed a little forced and plot-wise, improbable (even though fanfic is ripe with that story line).

I totally agree. Season 1, even though it’s literally about the end of the world, has a lovely sense of escapism. Though brilliantly done and with some very juicy, interesting storylines, it doesn’t feel nearly as comforting as Season 1 (I think Season 2 was largely influenced by the Fandom’s ideas.) The only antidote I can recommend for the effect the ending of Season 2 has had on viewers is - use your imagination! It’s there! That way, it can be however you want. Sometimes, that is the best benefit of cliffhangers. But all the same, Season 3, PLEASE COME SOON!

I felt it was romantic bc Azi and Crowley were honest and finally acted like an united front, unlike season 1 -in which they constantly refused to acknowledge they were on the same team, fighting for the same ideals.

Gabriel is an elitist narcissist with the managerial skills of an aardvark. I appreciate that opposites attract but for him to fall in love with an archduke from Hell is improbable given the toxic and highly adversarial nature of their day to day duties. The love story between the two, whilst emotionally satisfying on a superficial level, comes across as contrived.

@@lamotiengodidal6511I know where you’re coming from but, I honestly think Gabriel isn’t the problem. Spoiler alert: the problem is mostly heaven and metatron. They were ready to kick out Gabriel and erasing his memories for not going along with their plans. Though it doesn’t excuse some of his actions it does explain that some of Gabriel’s actions come from a place if he doesn’t follow orders he could get in trouble with someone more powerful than him. I do kinda understand where you’re coming from because his improvements seemed rushed. Maybe they’ll give more insight in season 3 which would probably focus on the end of the world part 2 and Aziraphale coming to the conclusion that heaven as well as hell are wrong and it’s ok to be in the grey.

It's the double-think prevalent in the upper echelons of Heaven in regard to matters of ultimate goals and objectives for Earth, that's the problem. Metatron (superbly played by Derek Jacobi) gave a masterclass in deception and manipulation during his conversation with Aziraphale offering him promotion to Prime Angel with the chance '... to do the right thing'. He cannily perceived that the Aziraphale / Crowley axis is historically the only effective opposition around. He is cleverly moving to break-up the pair and thus render them both ineffective in neutralising Heaven's latest masterplan to bring about the "Second Coming" and, presumably, the end of the world.

Aziraphale always chooses yellow. The bookshop’s walls, the car, the duster he gives Gabriel, other bits and peices. They’re all yellow. Guess what else is yellow, the color of Crowley’s eyes. He also calls yellow “pretty”, does he mean Crowley’s eyes are pretty too?

Yeah, in Aziraphale and Crowley love story, I think everyone is rooting for the demon. Zira has often hurt Crowley with his rejections ("We are not friends", "I don't need you", "No", "No", "No"...) But Crowley just picks up his broken heart the angels has stomped on and very bravely tries again and again and doesn't give up. We all want a Crowley fighting for us. Aziraphale has a lot to make up for both in S1 and in S2

I'm not particularly. Neither has said the magic words I love you. Running away from his responsibitities is not Aziraphale's way. I'm rooting for an angel that would break his own heart rather than not do what he feels is right

I'm rooting for them both. Imo neither of them is the bad guy here. The oppressive system they're trapped in is. Aziraphale is a very conflicted and complex character, but he always does what he believes is right in the end. He is fundamentally good, a being overflowing with kindness and compassion for others. The main thing that separates Aziraphale and Crowley is that Crowley had his faith broken long ago, while Aziraphale is still clinging to what's left of his. There's real opportunity for growth and empowerment in Aziraphale's arc in season 3, and I hope Neil Gaiman makes full use of that potential.
