This reminded me of a thing a couple of years ago here in Mexico where schools changed their rules regarding the uniform to allow girls to wear pants if they didn't want to wear skirts. So schools said they were going to allow students to wear whatever they felt the most comfortable and not be penalized for it. It also meant that they would allow boys to wear skirts if they chose to. So of course the media and a lot of people started framing it as "Schools are going to force boys to wear skirts from now on".

I long for the days when all she did was informing people, who didn't ask, that teachers and students used to shit on the floors of Hogwarts.

It might have been said but just to clarify she's actually quoting from George Owells 1984 with the lines "War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength." Her saying "I would transition if I grew up today" is literally just projection. She's projecting her own feelings and fears onto an entire community. It doesn't mean anything at all, like it's not even an argument!!

There's another subtext here that suggests that women can't assault women- like it's only men that ever commit these kinds of crimes. What about gay women who hurt other gay women? Straight men taken advantage of by straight women? Like, way to to go JK, you're standing up for women by ignoring a huge portion of women and the various ways they're at risk of harm.

JK Rowling is a perfect illustration of the importance of working through past trauma, particularly sexual trauma. Unprocessed trauma can lead to harm to others down the road. I sympathize with JK Rowling regarding her past sexual assault, but it does not excuse her abhorrent views towards the trans community

I forget where I heard this, in a tweet probably, but: when someone corrects a person about their ignorant behavior, it should be recognized not as an attack but as a sign that the person doing the correcting thinks that the ignorant person is worth the effort/capable of change. And therefore it should be taken as a kind of compliment. Early on, so many people tried to give JK that opportunity to change and she chose to double down. I have a personal weird feeling towards her because she says a lot of the same sort of things my mom used to say, and my mom has gotten better. I used to think they were very similar, but there’s the difference I guess.

It's clearly not about trans women she just sees everything from her traumatizing experience. Which is sad (and she should go get therapy for that) but does not validate all the hate this woman puts out there!

I’m a cis woman and know many MANY cis woman who have been SAed and abused by cis men - and yet I would never NEVER use that experience against the trans community , trans woman are woman and the only way in which they are apart of this discussion is what they’ve been you’ve to the hands of cis men as well. Painting transness as criminal is absolutely fucked. This is so besides the point, but perhaps still revealing of her point of view. This focus on the criminal justice system/prisons also makes it clear she thinks criminality should make someone less than human. Just awful, hateful, conservative vitriol that is anti trans and but also seemingly against any kind of prison reform or abolitionist policies because of her view of criminality, which seems to be something inherent for her. I'm sure she actually has many more awful positions on law and order, it's just that she can hide behind terf shit on this one. (I'm a survivor, I don't want to hear about how her position is at all justified. I'm not for the state dehumanising people and punishing them. Prisons are fucked and are a tool of state control, the criminal system doesn't help survivors)

Firstly, as a non-binary Scot, who has the misfortune to share a city with J.K. Rowling, I would consider being called a penised individual more correct than being called male. Police Scotland are actually being very progressive in this move, as Scotland does not yet have self-ID laws in place. In fact, the Scottish National Party (SNP) made a manifesto promise to deliver self-ID in the lifetime of the 2016-2021 Scottish Parliament. They were duly elected, the Bill went to public consultation, 65% of respondents agreed to it - then figures within the SNP objected to it, wanting gender unscientifically based on biological sex. Look up Joanna Cherry MP. The Bill was pulled, watered down, went to a second consultation, which again a majority agreed to, and it looked like self-ID was going ahead. Then Covid-19 was declared a pandemic, and the GRA Reform Scotland Bill was shelved with indecent haste. The 2016-2021 devolved Scottish Parliament passed into the 2021-2026 session in May 2021, with the SNP being re-elected, and we're still waiting. Therefore, Police Scotland have taken this decision without formal legislation in place, and they are to be applauded for doing so. But then, the Scottish Prison Service (SPS), whom I used to work for, have been allocating prison spaces based on gender self-ID for many years. Either Rowling is missing a point here or she's doing it deliberately. The Police Scotland statement means that any offender will be treated according to their gender identity, including cisgender offenders. Will Joanne admit that cisgender women who sexually assault children are indeed cisgender women? Or is she going to pretend that never happens, despite the fact that the incidence of child sex abuse by cis women is much higher than by LGBT+ people? Or even cis women who sexually assault other cis women? And if Rowling thinks that doesn't happen, I invite her to read some of the reports of inmates of the shithole which is HMP Cornton Vale, Scotland's only women's prison. I have read heartbreaking and horrifying reports of straight women inmates being forced into lesbian acts against their will, and being violated with hairbrush handles and makeshift dildos by other cis women inmates. Oh, but she would try to pretend that it is only transgender women in prisons who assault cis inmates. Except transgender women in prisons are sexually and physically assaulted more frequently by cis inmates than the other way round. And of course, while it is rare, it is perfectly possible for a cis woman to sexually assault a cis man. I recall one case from several years ago when two women were convicted of sexual assault of a Mormon missionary, a virgin, saving himself for marriage, whom they lured into a house and forced into sex. Whatever your beliefs, that lad was indeed violated. Police Scotland are not at all political, and appear to have taken this decision of their own volition. I wholeheartedly applaud them for doing so.

This is so sad for me, because i've been a fan of Harry Potter since i was a child. The saga helped me go thru so much and it became a safe place, still. I'm very confused, because an underlying message in her tweet(imho) is that it is absurd that a woman could 'r--' another person. Because if they 'r--d' someone, they would have to be a man. I know many, well, people, and many trans people. I unfortunately also know a decent number of folks who have experienced SA, some of them cis men/women at the hands of a ciswoman/cisman, some trans folks at the hands of other trans folks, and there are of course examples with any mix of the above. Because a member of any group can undervalue/misunderstand consent, can hurt others and get off on that, etc. No group is exempt from it's assholes, it's mindless, it's monsters. So yes, Madam JK: an AMAB person(regardless of their gender) can 'r--' a ciswoman(implied in JK tweet, imo, bc of TERFDOM), just as they could do to LITERALLY ANY OTHER PERSON, and just as ANY OTHER KIND OF PERSON could do.

What's weird about her tweet is that it's implying that women don't commit sex crimes. Like, surely, instead of saying that all r*pists are men who assault women, we should be saying that everyone who commits sex crimes, regardless of their gender identity and regardless of the victim's gender identity, should be punished. So her tweet is not only transphobic, but it also invalidates the experience of people who were assaulted by women.
