This video is about the John Deere L110 mower. It has 600 hours on the clock and the transmission is making a few strange noises. It started out as 'lets just get the transmission rebuilt' project - but soon turned into something a lot bigger.

The company that rebuild that transmission really hasn't no proud and self respect in the job their doing not a place I would have anything to do with

I highly recommend that you become a "registered Retailer" of John Deere parts so that you can obtain your parts from your supplier, and fix the tractor CORRECTLY. Forget the fly by night shadetree mechanics in Sydney!

Just inherited by dad's 2008 LA115 with only 138 hours (I'm wondering if hour meter is accurate.) I don't need the transmission rebuilt, but the mower deck and operator's platform both need a paint job. Your paint job looks great! Hoping I can reproduce your results.

Great Video 😎 I’m Repainting My L110 Deere But Not Gonna Take It All Apart Like That, Where Did You Get That Seat Cover? I Need 1
@TreeChangeFarmer
@TreeChangeFarmer Год назад
The seat cover I bought from the local John Deere dealer. They have different sizes depending on the height of the seat back. The mower one was easy to get local but I have one for the 2025R tractor and could only get that one from the US. Cheers Dave.

Great job Mate. Sorry you had to go through the extra charges. I didn’t hear the 1st part of the video to see if you sent it to John Deere. I took a John Deere GX345 to my local dealer. I assumed I was getting a new carburetor. I looked at the price on line and it was around $350. They had it over a week. I went down to pick it up and it ended up costing me $1250. I mowed with it for 15 hrs and it started to do the same thing it was doing before I had it worked on. I’m not EVER taking it back to a JD dealer. Great paint job by the way. What was the paint gun you used. I have an air compressor and that would work out good for me.

I sent the transmission to a repair shop (not JD). After 25 hours it is now leaking oil, it wasn't before I sent it away! Just about to investigate so there may be a video on what I find soon. The rebuild to the transmission cost nearly $800 a new replacement from JD back then was $1250. If we could get the 'Tuff Torq' rebuild kits here in Australia I would have given it a go myself. For the paint I use a 'devilbiss' gun I bought for car restoration. It is a brazillian made one and is cheaper than the GTI gun. Pressure at the gun head was only 20 psi so not to over blow the paint. Cheers Dave.

They put sealed both sides RS bearings in those new spindles So you need to remove the inside seal

Great job. I hope you have good service from that transaxle. I would've expected it to be cleaned and even painted by the rebuilder. None the less, excellent content.
@TreeChangeFarmer
@TreeChangeFarmer Год назад
Hello Jay. There was a warranty on the transaxle of one month. About 1 week later than one month, it started leaking oil. Must have lost a bit by now as the groans and noises have returned as before. Will need to pull it out again and have a look. Certainly didn't leak oil before I sent it away! The place that did the service have a fancy website with pictures of what looks like a modern factory complex but when I googled the address it was just a suburban house and the guy obviously works from his home garage. Cheers Dave

@@TreeChangeFarmer Friggin wankers using silly cone or selastic to seal it Tuff Torque sell the seals the RTV goop and a gallon of SAE 30 oil in a kit for these trans In fact their rebuild kit with a new motor and slave motor ect is around 500 bucks Although im not too sure what the shipping would be to OZ But im betting you could of done a better job than the cowboy that did the work Im betting all he did was drain the oil through the vent seal split the cases have a look and maybe clean the inside magnets ? Then bung some silly cone on it bolt it up and fill it using the same vent hole instead of the proper fill plug at the back that has a magnet you remove Then you fill it to 3/4 of an inch below the top with SAE 30 oil clean and refit the magnet bung a new plug on it and your done Its only a case of beer to a buddy type job The main wear in these things is the plates the motors ride on wear down a bit in the middle and can be fixed using some 600 to 1200 grit sand paper and a sheet of glass if there not too bad The other wear is the differential gears in the back Mainly the spider gears This may help ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3D_vtMg-Zxg.html

The good thing about John Deere is the availability of parts. Most times I need bushings, bearings etc, the local dealer has them in stock Cheers Dave.

I really like the Oregon g5 gator blades. They have been on my mower for the last 200hours and seem to still be factory sharp.

Terrific video, I have an L110 here in Michigan USA that my home's previous owner left. It's still running great with basic maintenance, but I sure learned much from your video. Winter's almost over in OZ, enjoy your spring and thanks again Mate!

Thanks for watching! The Kohler engine is still great but my transmission has developed a leak (which it didn't have before) and I will do a video soon trying to track down where it is coming from. Not the seals on the axle so I think when they rebuilt it, they didn't get the liquid gasket maker in the right place. Looks to be leaking from one of the bolts. Cheers Dave.

Great information. I have an LA130 and I plan to do a similar restoration. Unfortunate the company who performed the transmission repair was so sloppy.

My transmission began leaking oil only 5 hours after the rebuild. Never leaked before.

For the money you spent on that transmission they should've absolutely put a new fan on it! I think I'd take a few thing's loose just to look and see if there's new part's inside! You did a fantastic job on cleaning and painting it, makes me want to take my 2007 John Deere totally apart and do the same thing. 👍

There will be an update on this soon as I have found that the transmission is leaking a lot of oil. Hoping it may just be a loose bolt or the sealant has been missed in a spot. Either way it will have to come out so the oil can be topped up. Cheerts Dave.

You should have taken spidels off ,and take the bearings out to grease them. The rubber. on the bearings come out to grease the bearings. Putting grease in the bottom, doesn't grease the bearings. John Deere wants you to spend money not save it,and they don't tell you about doing it that way.
