I was trying decide between the KLX110L (manual clutch) and the KLX140. There were 2 things that made me decide on the KLX110: 1) The 140 does not have a kickstart. I must have a kickstart for any dirt bike; 2) The weight. The KLX110 weights 165 lbs, but the KLX140 weighs 205-218 lbs (depending on the model). Having an extra 40-50 lbs of weight is a lot. For comparison, it would be like riding the KLX110 with a scuba tank strapped to your back. After owning the 110 for 8 months, I am glad I chose the 110. It has lots of power, is easy to maneuver thru the woods, and the same ground clearance (9.5") as the 140. The KLX110 is actually rated for heavier riders than the KLX140. The KLX110 is used in a lot of pit bike racing by riders over 200 lbs. It has a proven, rock-solid frame that will hold-up to years of riding.

Hey Jeff, yeah I think it comes down to personal preference. I haven't had a kickstart for years and don't miss it. The extra weight is due to the bigger chassis and wheels, which gives you better stability on trails with bumps and obstacles. I really enjoy riding a 110, though, when I want something lighter and smaller.

Great review. I'm looking for a first bike for my daughter. You explained the KLX140 sizes better than Kawasaki and 4 salespeople.

Hi! thanks again for your great videos. I subscribed and follow your useful information on dirt bikes. Question: can you install the biggest size tires on the KLX 140L version?
@utuberinxs

I am talking about the 21" / 18" wheels which I believe are the biggest ones. Would they work for the L model?
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 6 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks for your support! I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing you could make them fit with all the right parts (I haven't done it myself). You might need the swingarm and components from the full size model. You'd probably spend less in the end by just buying the full size wheel model.

You're welcome, thanks for watching! It's a 2011 KLX140L. I put a couple of new side panels on it, otherwise it actually isn't the nicest up close - I bought it as a fixer upper for my wife to ride :)

I just got a 2016 KLX 140l (mid wheel size). I'm 5'5" with a 29" inseam and it feels pretty dang good to me however I feel like I might want to go up in wheel size. If I wanted to go up in wheel size can I just install the bigger 21"/18" wheels/tires on it?
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 2 месяца назад
Nice! The front might be an easy swap, but you'd have to check part numbers to see if the full size wheel model has a different (longer) swingarm. Wheels are fairly expensive, so it's often cheaper just to sell your bike and buy a full size wheel model that's already set up, FWIW.

What's the range and top speed on the klx 140r?? I literally cannot find any answers on google nor the kawasaki website!!
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 3 месяца назад
Fuel range? Depends on how you ride - anywhere from 50-100 miles. Top speed is around 50 mph.

Do they still sell the 140RF? I live in Australia and I cannot find an RF for sale anywhere. I cannot even find a used one for sale. Did they just not release it to Australia or something?
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 4 месяца назад
Good question - I just looked on the Kawasaki Australia website and it looks like you're right - they don't have a 2024 140R F model. That's sad to hear. Maybe the made the 140G a few years earlier and you could find one used...? It's the same thing, just a different 'model name'.

I’ll take the carb over efi on a dirt bike. Get rid of the stock carb and buy a genuine Mikuni. Now you can jet it perfectly and if you perform mods in the future you can re-tune.
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for sharing, Darren. To each his own. Yeah, the stock carb is quite annoying but I was able to put a slot in the air screw and adjust it so it starts and runs well now.

Idk if you’ll see this but I’ve never rode a bike before I’m 15, 5’10 and weigh 144 would this be a good starting bike? Or what do u recommend
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 22 дня назад
At your height, the KLX140R F (or "G") model would fit you well because it has the full size wheels (21/18"). Otherwise here's some good dirt bikes under $2k: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3NdX9bWZgFk.html

My boyfriend, who loves to ride, wants to teach me how to ride. I’m so excited to start! We have been discussing a KLX140L I’m 5’5 and 240. Would this still be a great beginner bike or should we steer more towards a different option given my size? Thanks!
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 3 месяца назад
That's awesome, Stephanie! The KLX140L is a great bike to start on - my wife is the same height and really likes her 140L. The KLX140G (same as 140R F) is good as well if you want full size wheels but is slightly taller. The shock and fork springs will be a little bit soft for you, but they should be good enough to start on :)

I'm an Adult Male, 6'1'' 200 lbs, what Bike is good to start on ? I'm getting all KINDS of information. Many are telling me a 250 and others say a 125 up to a 450 can all be fine as long as you have throttle control. I have been riding snowmobiles for 20 plus years and I ride an 850 now but it's no different really than a 600 as along as you understand how to control the power.

Ditto to this question.... best answer?
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 8 месяцев назад
@mattj8550 @deang4438 It depends on where you'll be riding and what your goals are. Those bikes are fun out in the open, but if you want to ride single-track trails and build your confidence quicker, then you'll want to pick a beginner friendly trail bike. At your size, the CRF250F or KLX300R would be a good choice if you're looking for a newer bike with EFI. I ride sleds too, but riding 2 wheels off-road is a lot different when it comes to balance and control.

Those would be great then because they are comfortable on the trails, especially at lower speeds and won't overheat easily.

You can get away with a 230 or 250 (be sure not to get the "race" or "performance" models unless you're confident in your skills). The main thing for you is probably your height - any four-stroke smaller than 230 is just going to be uncomfortable for you.
