Actually I remember hearing an interview about a local (Italian) singer on the matter. She had posted some surgery/health stuff she was going through/dealing with and said a few things about Internet comments. She suggested that social media platforms should give check marks to all verified people so people could put their face to their nasty comments. Basically prove their identity in a way. Almost as if there was idk a green check next to my Instagram handle that means they verified my identity and my profile pic and info matches or can be tracked back to me as a person. I do see some issues with it and privacy. Expecially on the side of overbearing bosses using it to micromanage worker outside of work etc. But at least they can trace back all you say back to you. There's no hiding. Also I guess the singer was referring to people with other people as their profile or no image at all. I barely use Instagram. I haven't opened it in a year or so. But all my info in there is my actual info as I'm not afraid to be honest and have my words tracked to me. Because I stand by what I say and I don't have some weird ideology. So I know most people would scroll past my comments and not even read them they're that boring. But I'm like that because I have nothing to hide. I don't have any fake account or anything. Edit: I didn't make it clear enough I think. But the singer's idea is so people would put their face where their mouth is. Put their identity on the nasty things they have to say. And not some blank image.

Reminds me of when I was a summer camp assistant counselor in 2008 and there was a white 2nd grader who joined the session a little later than the rest of the kids. Prior to this 2nd grader showing up, the kids were playing normal kid games during recess. Hide and seek, tag, etc. The first day this kid showed up, he suggested to the other kids that they play "throw rocks" during recess. Obviously, not a good choice no matter what, but what made this "game" infinitely worse was they were playing "throw rocks...at the only black kid in the group." I was livid and immediately made them stop playing "throw rocks." I informed this kids parents and they seemed to understand that was not a good choice for their kid to make and said they would talk to him about "making safe choices." The next day during recess I heard this kid yell out "let's play slave and master!" He pointed at the black kid and said "You'll be the slave and I'll be your master!" Before I could get to them and intervene, the black kid had got on all fours and the white kid was pantomiming puting a leash around the other kids neck! I managed to put a stop to that "game" as well, but was just so shocked that a 2nd grader could even conceive of these "games" and clearly be actively racist. Of course I brought it up to his parents and they laughed and said "no way that happened!" The lead counselor came over and backed me up and told them that it had in fact happened at it was not a laughing matter. They laughed it off again and said "we'll have another talk with him." The lead and I exchanged knowing looks as these parents left. The next day, this little boy made another suggestion to the black kid that they play "hangman" on the monkey bars. At this point, I had caught on and was standing right next to him when he said this. I shouted out "NOPE!" and I pulled this little boy aside and explained in a very quiet stern voice that what he was doing was wrong, that it was racist (had to explain what that was) and that I never want to see him treat others this way, even as a game, ever again. The rest of the summer the kids resumed playing normal little kid games and treating each other with respect. Racism is absolutely taught from one generation to the next and it is on us to do the work to stop it.

I'm from Guatemala and I'm so sad the world now knows about my country because of them. The worst is the fact these kids study at one of the most expensive schools in Guatemala. They go with the American school schedule, most of their classes are in English, overall their lives go around American culture, and are so different from the regular Guatemalan, it's like if they live in the USA. So saying they "didn't know black face is" or that "they didn't knew it was incorrect" it's a complete lie. I would believe that if it was a poor kid from the rural areas but them? Definitely KNOW what they did.

thank you for posting honestly because my first thought was oh my god thats fucking awful and then i wondered if they weren't from the united states or something, though that's not any excuse, i do know that in some cultures it's genuinely something they don't know about. but the fact that we now know that even though they're foreigners they DO go to one of the most prestigious schools, which means they have PLENTY of access to information and probably have classmates of multiple races and nationalities. like i said even if they didn't know it's no excuse, especially when someone TELLS them that it's offensive, but they absolutely knew what they were doing. not to mention hearing the woman who recorded the video also talk about how they were making monkey noises is also very fucking gross and disturbing. she did nothing wrong by recording the incident because they may be underage but they're in a public place and she's free to record by law, there's no consent needed. it's unacceptable what these girls did and they need to face repercussions, maybe not publicly because they're children, but by their school for sure. they knowingly were doing blackface in public and were taking pictures like it was funny. it's insanity to me. i'm not even opposed to them being called out publicly honestly because their mom was going to take a picture to probably share with family members. it's very concerning that someone this young in the year 2024 is being so racist, and brazenly.

the fact that kids tried to hide as soon as they saw camera says it all. they KNOW what they're doing. otherwise they wouldn't be trying to hide if they thought it was something innocent and funny. and so do their parents when demanding to delete the video. when i was a kid and we were covering ourselves head to toes in light grey clay to jump in the water so it all turns from clear to white - if we were filmed we would still do it. many kids did it with mud - and would still do it. because our intentions were indeed innocent and we indeed wouldn't have known that something is wrong. no one was making animal noises then either (who were in mud). they all just ran and yelled "CANNONBALL!!!" this is THE difference between not knowing and having no ill intentions and knowing yet still doing it!

Robert, I agree with you 100%. Here's an idea for Sephora: Remove all of your tester products and samples. If someone wants to try a product, ask a salesperson for it. If Sephora does not want to "police" or "babysit" these rude children and their clueless parents, then don't make your products readily available for sample in the stores. This incident should have never been allowed to occur. Sad and disgusting.

While I agree that this incident shouldn’t have happened and Sephora handled it all wrong, removing the testers would undermine what Sephora is about. The whole concept of the store was initially about allowing people to shop luxury brands without feeling intimidated or discriminated against by snooty SAs who didn’t want to help *certain people* (ie old, perceived poor, non-white). If they want to keep that model or ethos, they should train and allow their SAs to throw kids or adults like this out of the store and ban them.

I don't think people realize the historical implications of blackface. It's not just messing around and putting vastly differently colored foundations on your face, it's mocking an aspect about a person's appearance (skin color) that they were born with. Blackface used to be used by white people to mock black people by dehumanizing them and boiling them down into a caricature to entertain a white audience. The parents could have used that moment, especially since their daughter was so young, to educate her. But instead, they gaslit the woman filming into thinking she is the one overreacting. This whole ordeal just makes me sick. I'm so glad people were supporting the woman who was filming. I could go on and on... I don't like people sometimes -____-

While I was looking at some products, a very small girl came up and pointed at the first thing at her eye level and told her mom, "I want this little one." Her mom replied in an exasperated tone, "You don't need that, you're 8." It was The Ordinary Multi Peptide Eye Serum. The mother not squashing that behavior immediately and telling the workers to talk to their OWN kids tells me all I needed to know. They're not raising their kids at all. They're letting the world and internet do it for them. There's plenty of questionable and racist creators who can influence your kids if you just let them run amok online too. Not to mention that mom definitely isn't squashing racism in her own household. She's actively promoting it with how she was perfectly fine with them doing it and wanting to take pictures of them doing it. At this point I'd have to say Sephora needs to lock it's stuff up away from kids at this point. It sucks for everyone else who wants to use a tester but it's just safer at this point and easier for us to ask for a tester to be unlocked than letting people make the place unsanitary for use.

Locking testers up like drug stores do for razors, or electronics stores do for their most expensive items would eliminate so many problems. I think testers should be done away with altogether. If you want to try something, you should have to ask the employee for a sample. I also feel like Sephora needs to implement an age policy: no one under the age of 16 without an adult present. Then, samples can only be given to the adult.

I'm a teacher of girls aged 12 to 18 and it's definitely a thing that the younger girls are absolutely FERAL. It's happened so quickly too, like my 15-18 year old students are mostly respectful and nice where the 12 year olds are entitled, rude and messy. Just today I had a class where 3 students were in a bad mood, so they had to make it everyone's problem, slamming their books and stationery around and loudly swearing and fighting against everything I tried to get them to do in class, leaving bits of paper behind for me to clean up after class. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt for personal circumstances, exhaustion, different abilities, etc., but the huge difference in emotional regulation and just general manners and human decency across the board are insane.

I am ligh skin Latina but even whites know could easily tell I am not one of them so what does this mean her husband protected us he would never let us leave his home at night time because at the time of their start of his relationship he lived in smaller city named Waxahachie Texas so he always told us its safer if we stayed indoors at night time so if we needed anything he go out of the house with us by his side so we took his word because with his past family's history he knows what safe and not but in this ideal world we only wish this fear and racism no longer exist but it sadly does so instead mfolks need to heal and do better then what they we're born into if that all makes sense..

@@taiyabazaheer9492 I disagree on some of this, but absolutely feel that they should be dealt with lawfully - but I don’t believe that will happen. The girls weren’t named - just the mother who was encouraging their behaviour. As a mum of 2 children, I would be ashamed, horrified and disgusted in my obvious failure as a parent. As a mother, it’s my job to raise my children to become the best versions of themselves. Before I saw this, I never for a moment considered that there would be people out there who would allow their children to do this and actively encourage it. These “children” are more than old enough to know better. My 8 year old recognises that this is wrong so a teenager absolutely does. If this mother doesn’t want to hold her children accountable for their actions, then society will. They deservedly lost their right to privacy when they brought their private hatred and vitriol into a public space. I hope they learn a lesson that their bad actions and bad deeds have consequences, and as a society - people won’t stand for this behaviour. Also, the girl who recorded this incident is a black woman witnessing blatant racism. She confronted the mother off camera, and the mother didn’t care and shifted the blame to her children who apparently aren’t old enough to be responsible for their own actions. Then the mother seemed out the 22 year old because she realised that she’d been recorded, which in a public space in perfectly legal.

These children knew that what they were doing was wrong, but felt "okay" in doing it because the adult with them essentially condoned their behavior by not calling them out on it and correcting it. You can tell by the obvious look of shock and shame on the girl in the striped sweater that she realized she had been caught doing something she shouldn't have been doing. The fact that the mother's main issue was trying to figure out who was filming and how to get the video back is clearly an indicator of how she didn't see what her children were doing was wrong. Whether it was blackface or just misusing the product ("strangely" enough, the testers aren't put out there for you to do a full face of make up), this is just disgusting. It's not only the job of Sephora to do something about it, but also of the parents who let their children run amok in public. Thank you for speaking about this. I think it's exceptionally important for people in the makeup community to call this out. There is no confusion it was racist, as is every individual who intentionally uses foundation 3+ shades darker than their own skin tone.

I am a primary school teacher and believe me they have been raised by iPads. I live in Australia and some of these kids actually have American accents because they continue to watch SO much crap on screens. I also have 2 kindergarten kids whose family speak English at home but they can only mutter a few words. They simply have no adult speaking to them at home. That’s how kids acquire language, manners, self control in the first 5 years. The millennial parents are also quite lazy. They expect teachers and schools to do everything from give their children 3 meals a day, give them school uniforms and then expect to text teachers WHEN THEY’RE TRYING TO TEACH YOUR KID and rant about their kid not getting the breakfast they want. WTF. I know some demographics need assistance and that is fine and has always been taken care of as best we can at school level but it’s simplistic just to blame the pandemic for everything. It’s in the rear view mirror and now parents need to take responsibility for their children, just as we have done and make changes. It can be as simple as no one uses screens at home for 1 hour, then 2 and so on and so forth. Instead go for a walk together, put on some music and dance in the kitchen, make a bloody packet cake…anything to encourage talk, eye to eye contact, basic skills like measuring out stuff, counting the beat.whatever. It really doesn’t matter. The first 5 years of a child’s life will form them basically into what they will become as an adult. All their values and internal messaging are set by YOU parents and carers.

I agree! Parents seem to demand others, especially teachers, to do things for their children, but they seem unwilling to invest the time and attention into helping their kids have manners and judgment over what they see. If kids are allowed to have unfettered access to the internet, AND this isn't balanced by intentional conversations about the kinds of things they see on social media and in movies, the kids are not going to grow up knowing how to be critical thinkers and they will think that disrespectful behavior is acceptable. It's scary. I have a 10-year-old son and he is lovely. I do worry for this generation. People blame the pandemic for gen alphas behavior but that is a HUGE oversimplification.

@@susanjeffries5108I’m a gen z adult who was raised by the early internet, not an ipad - and I still feel the ramifications of how that went currently. Been told off for being rude, ostracized for not having my stuff together like other people are (I’m ADHD). I’m a work in progress and trying to be better day by day. The only way we salvage this gen alpha problem is if the parents make them aware that their behavior is a problem.

yeah i worked at a preschool for a few years and we get so many parents saying they want their kid to be able to read at the end of the year but aren't doing literally ANYTHING at home to work with their kids on that. like people this is PREschool not kindergarten, but then i hear about kids who went on into elementary school who are now underperforming cus again the parents aren't doing anything with them. it's a weird combo of over-pressuring them at young ages but also not putting in any home time with them? i don't think parents understand what levels kids should be at at what ages anymore nor do they understand that a lot of that development does come from their home environment. it's not all running flash card drills it's reinforcement of ideals and manners through play and everyday interactions, which admittedly they weren't getting with peers during the lockdowns but still...

@@thecryingcryptidIt is surprising to me that my new Kindergarteners come home with more homework than my teen ever had throughout all years of elementary school. That we have to teach them to read and write, which I never did in Kindergarten much less had any homework, but the middle schoolers come home with color pages and high schoolers still struggle reading and writing. Where is THAT ball being dropped if they are expected to learn in Kindergarten?? Impressive, but what has been happening between then and middle school to cause such a regression?

The “too young” excuse is sooooo dumb. When I was 15, I once called out a girl who posted a screenshot of a pic of her in a charcoal mask with a text and saying something alone the lines of “like black face lol” and then reposted it on to her private instagram. I called her out and sent her a bunch of dms about it; but I was the only one who got in trouble since I didn’t “do” the reporting process right or whatever, and got a detention sort of punishment for so-called “cyber bullying”

Honestly even mundane things like grocery shopping. I still like grocery shopping (not the prices though!) But a lot of people think it's mundane. Kids though often think it's kind of fun. There's all these colors and smells and things to look at. I used to love going shopping with my mom when I was little. And now, kids are looking at a phone or a tablet as the world passes by around them. It's just really sad to me because even if they grow up to be normal adults they may lament that they don't have these nice little memories like I do of going shopping with Mom and laughing at the jokes on the boxes of cereal. Sorry for the long comment, I do love rambling.

As a fellow Singaporean, that CEO of TikTok should be held accountable. I don't mind seeing him being grilled to no end on what TikToXICITY has been feeding to the young minds. He is a disgrace to the whole of Singapore seriously. Also, the extent of damage these Alphas have done thus far is already considered as vandalism. There should just be age limit to enter Sephora cos sooner or later they'd take the premise as their playground or lab room. 🙄 Disgusting generation.

I’m sorry but it’s definitely not TikTok’s fault or any social media platform’s fault (though they definitely need to make their platforms better). It’s the parents’/parent’s fault. How long are we gonna blame TikTok for being “omg bad and cringey” when every single social media platform is the exact same? How long are we gonna blame social media platforms for kids behavior when social media isn’t the one that should be parenting? Gen Alpha aren’t the disgusting ones, the parents and other adults not caring about how things effect children are disgusting and disgraceful.
