The only good moment plot-wise was when Woody just roasted Young Xehanort and flat-out said he doesn't care about his overly-convoluted anime bullshit.
@@MatthewCJoy he says in the video his problem with the game IS that it just repeats what happened in the other games and Sora acts like he has no clue what he’s doing when he just went through a whole saga of it. He’s obviously played all the games when his problem is the game literally just reiterates what the player already knows
The story, the damn gummi ship controls, those obnoxious theme park attacks, so much of this game was so unfun. But y'know, I really enjoyed the toy story level!
@@MatthewCJoy The problem isn't that, I know the story of almost every spin off game of the franchise and KH3 is still a convoluted and boring experience. And it really doesn't makes sense that of "necessary to play all the other games to enjoy" that's just a cheap excuse for a mediocre plot. You could play KH2 without playing CoM or 358/2 days or even BBS and still enjoy and understand everything that the game offers.
@@-JaggedGrace- I had the same reaction to the game. But the thing is, they ruined the franchise years ago, when they started dumping the actual plot in the extra convoluted side games. It just wasn't apparent to me (and others that didn't play the "side" games) until we got to the mess that was kingdom hearts 3.
@@Svefngengill I never really saw them as side games... well, except for Re: Coded. I was excited for all of them, and I was super into the story for each one. Again excepting Re: Coded. Though I probably should have seen the sudden third-act introduction of time travel with extremely vague rules as a red flag in DDD. "Cannot change events that are destined to happen" sounds like either you can change nothing at all, or the writers get to pick and choose what you can't change at their whim, which is just lazy. But I still think Birth By Sleep, 358/2 Days, and Chain of Memories had me invested in each cutscene and dialogue exchange, and also kept me entertained with their gameplay. They're full quality games in my book.
Csanád Csuvarszki Indeed. Though for different reasons depending on what you came for. Even if you liked it, you’ll have to deal with the hurt of waiting for the next game.
I don't know which game was more overhyped and ended up shitty in the time it took to be released, Duke Nuke-em or Kingdom Hearts 3, both took over a decade to get made, and both turned out boring, easier and shittier versions of themselves.
@@hydra_lisk hurt is just a concept from re:coded that only mattered at the end of dream drop distance and then didn't matter in 3. basically hurt is specifically emotional suffering on the level that breaks hearts.
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT I THOUGHT HOW CAN U BE THIS BAD AT VOICING MICKEY and something seems a little off with Donald's voice :/
The first game was the only one that was able to incorporate the Disney and anime elements In an organic way. In the rest of the games, The Disney worlds have nothing to do with the plot
Not really though, the first game works best cause the plot is the most simple: Sora wants to save the universe or whatever and find his friends Kairi and Riku. After that they started making everything totally convoluted.
Im gonna be honest, Ive seen a lets play from a person who was a huge fan of kingdom hearts and was extremely excited for this game, I saw how it went from enthusiasm and excitement to just flat out depression, and that lets play was never finished.
@@luminosity01 I'm so happy that under this video I find people who are thinking the same as me of this game. Its terrible. I waited so long for soch a crap. But I see various other fans who think the game is great and try to defend it, its hilarious. (Been a KH fan for the past 20 years, even when the sidegames (besides 1 and 2) were not that great either, i still loved it somehow, but kh3 is just a dissapointing mess.)
I love how the heavy expository dialogue was given to the Disney characters with the (literally) goofiest voices while the anime characters just grunt half the time...
Jabroney 5:00 makes me bust a gut. "I can't remember." "Sounds like a good memory!" At this point I doubt that the writing and delivery there was on purpose or not. Weird writing tones if you ask me.
I could never get into kingdom hearts. When goofy is talking about the fucking anime heart of super friendship replica power, i know something is wrong.
Dunkey, let me be real with you, if you played kingdom hearts 2.9 IV super ultra instinct final remix 5.3: the search of the 7 kingdom dragon cubes 69.6 high-end turbo deluxe edition for the xbox 360 featuring not only the funky Kong mode but also the BEEG yoshi mode, this game would make the 300 jack sparrow crabs mission way more sense because in the game that I mentioned, the 300 crabs are the remnants of master chief and jack sparrow needed them to bring him back to stop dark jimmy Kimmel from making the deadly blumpf bomb which will summon the resurrected diamond frieza which is a setup for kingdom hearts 3.5 super deluxe killer kombo breaker turbocharged remix 1337.420 ultra collector's edition for the playstation 4 pro.
Ah, I see you’ve watched the kingdom hearts 4: be careful what you wish for edition’s 2nd credits ending that explains the tom clancy cameo which only appears during the 4th toy story cutscene of kingdom farts: brraaap edition if you use microsoft paint to draw a nether portal into yoda’s green colon
You know he’s right about Hades having a good voice acting performance. It’s amazing how James Woods always returns to his roll as Hades in every Disney reference.
Square Enix main ingredient: _'everyone[with a brain] said storyline was the weakest and most asinine aspect of our Kingdom Heart's Franchise [and well everything post 2006]_ ; MORE STORYLINE, AND SHOVE IT DOWN THEIR THROATS ALL SLOW AND UNSKIPPABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KH3 had...more storyline? What fucking game did you play? Its story was all of about two hours long, and nicely crammed all together at at the end of the game.
@@randomness928 idk how else to say it but you’re just wrong. I’ve played KH2 more times than I’d like to admit, and there’s not anywhere near as many anime grunts as the rest of the games.
I usually played KH for the disney villain fights + final fantasy cameos. This game had none. I couldn't care less about the edgelord OCs they created for the game. This game is like playing a poorly written fanfic.
@@MatthewCJoy I was a fan of the concept and combat of KH, but the terrible dialogues and edgy characters didn't really do it for me no. Kh 1 and 2 were tolerable, but 3 is just too much, I couldn't handle it
I tried. I really tried. I tried tried and triiiieeed. I read everything; every note, data entry and piece of dialog, trying to memorize it all. I thought I was understanding the story... the evil and not-so-evil groups... the clones and the data stuff... I thought I understood it all. But then came the line... "I'm the Ansem from an alternate universe." I threw my controller down.
I honestly don’t get it. I’m a big fan and I’ve never felt confused about the story (except for Dream Drop Distance) and I always understood everything just fine. I was even a dumb kid when I first played 2 where people claim the plot gets more complex and skipped Chain of Memories (a big mistake people make) and I still understood stuff just fine.
Damn. I’ve been away from KH for a while, and I’ve really enjoyed the gameplay do them. I know the story has always been corny and bad, with horrendous dialogue, but I genuinely like the gameplay. Last month I bought the games I hadn’t played. I’m finishing 358/2 days, and plan of finishing DDD (I fucking hate it so far. Gameplay is ass), 2.8 (I honestly love the gameplay) and then play 3. Should I even bother playing 3? Is it really that bad or was the gameplay enjoyable at least
"There is no wit, no charm, just filler bullshit until you arrive at the story the developers wanted to tell....about anime characters hitting each other" Quite possibly the greatest thing Dunkey has ever said.
Wow Dunkeys being WAAAAAY too harsh. You can tell he clearly didn’t even unlock all the worlds. Once you collect all 300 crabs in pirates of the Caribbean then you unlock a new page to the Winnie the poo world that directly ties into the book from the beginning of Shrek and allows you to unlock the Dreamworks levels. It takes a while but the whole story starts to make sense when you get to Shark Tale world.
Rest of the video aside, that montage at the beginning set to that simple and clean remix is really good editing by Dunk! A nice tribute to the past decade of video games, and you have to admit even if the games aren't your thing that song is really hype
Don’t worry, After KH4 comes out with the boss baby world, we will finally understand what the secret ending of KH3 meant. We might even get a glimpse at KH5 the phantom pain, staring Sora’s new nobody, punished liquid Sora.
That 30 second intro is as good as anything you've ever done. So much joy and nostalgia seeing these games which I mostly played except for a few got me pretty emotional
I've been a huge fan of kingdom hearts since the beginning, and maybe it's just because I grew up but this game was such an incomprehensible mess of contrivances and half hearted story telling that it genuinely made me sad
The story started pretty nice and simple, you were just a kid trying to find your friends. But after the sequel (the one from the GBA) the darkness and heart stuff got on crack...
You didn't even mention the fact that half of the most charismatic characters don't say a word because they couldn't get the VAs for them so instead they just awkwardly stand there.
TheGallantRayku That doesn't explain the others who weren't voiced. Such as Auleus and Dilan. There are other ways to bring up Phil without lettting him show up and say nothing. There is no excuse for Bad writing.
Everyone: scared and ready fight Donal le duc: *This is fine, hey this maybe a good spot to find ingredients while we you know, get through this dark and unsafe event we’ve gotten ourselves pulled into*
Years passed and i am still pissed about kh3. It feels that it has no heartfelt moments with disney characters instead they just act as check boxes. The toy story and monster e co world were such example of these and it disappointed me so much. The winnie the pooh world was left as a minigame world meanwhile back in the days simply Sora interacting with Pooh would made your heart melt. Don t get me wrong, it IS BEAUTIFUL VISUALLY and is fluid gameplay wise but simply there were no emotional attachments with the disney characters cause they didn't exist or had no personality.
The kitchen where a literal rat infests people's hair and makes them move around like some kind of Puppetmaster. I mean, that's probably not a place you'd want to go looking around for ingredients.
Still love the game while loving these angry comments. I guess I exist in a perpetual state of contradiction in my relationship with this amazingly weird game.
I was so freaking pumped for when this game was going to release. I remember waiting years and years for it to come out and bought it first day only to not even be able to stomach it for more than a few hours. I wasn't sure if I just got older and the dialogue felt more awful than I could remember but this was definitely a big upset for me.
@@someguy9970 I can’t really think of any plot holes in the story but yeah they really went out of their way to make it as confusing to learn as possible
And not only that, but it has some legitimate lessons you can take away from the games like how life doesn't get easier, but you get better. Or how failure can be a tool to growth if you don't give up. Kingdom Hearts is literally just convoluted for the sake of being convoluted, which is one of the WORST things a story can be. Also, Elden Ring is gonna be awesome.
because it was made in japanese and the dialogue timing isn't going to be the same, try watching dubbed anime and they always seem to add in extra filler words to stretch out and match the mouth flaps
@@Laughing_Chinaman i get what you're saying, but that's not the same thing as pauses between dialogue. You could easily edit dialogue to be closer together.
Good takes, I agree and felt the same way about EVERYTHING you just said. Even the the first line of your description is on point. It's also worth noting that Riku and Kairi didn't have a single 1v1 dialogue the entire game, they did not talk to each other AT ALL.
I know I'm late to the vid but whoever edits dunkey's videos(whether it be him or another individual) they deserve credit. They are obviously an amazing team
