DIY lintel installation for our new back doors
Just when you thought installing the beam last year was the furthest we would go, this week we LITERALLY knock down the back of our house in order to get ready for the new back doors. Tom takes the lead on this one and talks you through all things acrow props / strong boys / lintels / etc.
Happy to report our house didn't fall down and I hope you enjoy the episode!

Slow but your happy with results ,, im just finished a similar job at my own property in which i skimmed new ceilings into old which had to be treated PVA etc,, lots of angle there also, great job fitting them heads,, progress is good. you guys should consider this type of work full time with another property AFTER you finish your own ?? 👍👍

The back doors look so nice. I can’t wait to see the finished kitchen. Random side note I really like your dark green nail polish. It’s so pretty!

I also was petrified when the window in the kitchen was put in. You cleared up nicely - I wouldn't have bothered with the floor; as long as my surfaces are clean, I'm happy. I had a two ring tabletop cooker that I used in the dining room to cook and used the sink in the utility area (done first) to wash up. Living with building dust is fun - not.

We are here now too - walking between 2 rooms to cook and a thick layer of dust over everything - a nightmare!

Hey, autumn. Loving the house and how it's looking. You guys are doing a great job. Where are the doors from? We are renovating our home and love the style of these ones!

We ordered the doors from Colin Sash Window’s - very happy with the quality. The lead-time was 16 weeks though 😭

Hey - great transformation and really looking forward to the finished product. One quick question - did you guys use reclaimed bricks when adding in those bricks to form a support for the lintel?
@FeedbyAutumn
@FeedbyAutumn 2 года назад
Thank you - we used the bricks from our house when we removed the chimneys or internal walls

Great work guys, what was the cost of the plastering? Was it a day rate or on a price?. Keep up the good work
@FeedbyAutumn
@FeedbyAutumn 2 года назад
Thanks! We pay him on a day rate. He’s definitely on the slow side but his rate reflects this - He’s been doing it for 30 years and truly is a perfectionist with it

I hate to say it, but I think you should have removed the wall in the entryway. It would have made the living room feel much bigger and you could have created an “entryway” with the back of the sofa. Good job though!!! Xoxo
@FeedbyAutumn
@FeedbyAutumn 2 года назад
We did think about this for a while, but I visited a couple of houses which had removed the wall and I just didn’t like it! Couldn’t tell you why as it was definitely lighter and brighter, but just felt incomplete somehow!

Definitely a bit nerve wracking when there is a momentarily unsupported hole in the bottom of your house! Great skills in evidence as usual.
