While you wouldn’t necessarily think of feminism as a bad thing, did you know there’s a rising radical feminist movement in South Korea? In the midst of a worsening gender-based conflict, multiple Korean companies even had to pull down their ads after men’s rights organizations complained that they were offensive to men. Let’s hit the streets of Seoul to find out how Koreans feel about radical feminism and their infamous hand sign.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Korean population.

One man in the vid said like "Men didnt really care before but some women started using it so it became problem" and it is not true, since women didn't use those signs to symbolize their genitals before men started making it a problem from may 2021. I agree with that, equality & respect benefit everyone if that is reallt what it is. But honestly, I've never seen a radical feminist (& rarely a self identifying feminist) care about males equally to females other than lip service. It is usually "I onky care about women, i want males to support my cause and then will be willing to throw them under a bus." The issue of DV is a good example. Many feminists want to protect women only from domestic violence, & don't acknowledge or ignore the dact that false accusations in Custody disputes are getting very common and an easily abused special power. It is actually possible to protect everyone from DV, and equally treat false accusations (esp in Custody disputes) seriously. They are an easy way to gain money, power or custody. IMO feminists arw almost always Female-first & Gynocentric in practice, not gender equal, just like their name suggests- as opposed to what they claim about themselves. I kind used to be a male feminist, because i naively thought feminists wanted equality, as they often claim with words alone. I still agree with feminists on some things & some concerns, but would never trust them to not throw males under a bus if it helps them.

For the last dude who was talking about how everything how everything should be "objective" and should not "benefit only women," made me worry. Especially in the case of "making sure even education about gender equality (or inequality) should be as objective as possible" is a little dangerous thinking in my opinion/experience. That's how you grow in the U.S. with half the country learning that the civil war was a complex issue about slavery, and the other half learning that "objectively" it was "just about states rights." No situation is just black and white and issues as complex as gender/race inequality cannot just be taught objectively. Particularly, when that "objective" pov is from that of the oppressor. I remember hearing about how this issue was really picking up in South Korea a few years ago and I still came away now thinking the same thing I did then - "equality always feels like oppression to the oppressor."
@Haylla2008
@Haylla2008 2 года назад
Weird way to frame how the U.S. learns about civil war era history. There's only one correct way to present the civil war era and that is as a complex issue that involves both state rights and human rights issues among other issues. Fortunately, that era ultimately won everyone the same human rights. Unfortunately, it tipped the power of the federal government as more supreme than that of the states. As far as I know, no one has ever been taught that the civil war was *just* about states rights but it does appear as if you think it was *just* about slavery. If something cannot be taught objectively, then it should be taught subjectively. And things that are subjective cannot be considered true until proven objectively. You're basically saying gender and race inequality issues aren't verifiable. I think many are overblown but even I wouldn't go that far. Not sure why you treat "objective" as if it's a bad word. Even more worrying is that you think objective thinking is dangerous thinking. You realize all scientific fields strive to be as objective as possible, right? Do you find science inherently dangerous, too? If a view is objective, it is true whether that view comes from an oppressor or not. You're statement shows you don't even understand what "objective" means. Here: expressing or dealing with facts or conditions as perceived without distortion by personal feelings, prejudices, or interpretations. You really need to do some thinking about how you view the world. You're striking me as someone who thinks they are educated but, in fact, have yet to learn to think critically.

@@Haylla2008 Firstly, woah, I was not expecting quite such an aggressive response and I think a few wires have been crossed here. When I was mentioning "objective" - I was meaning in the way it is often used to white wash history and gloss over the very real events/life experiences of the people involved. Secondly, I would never say/insinuate there is no fact based truly objective evidence of gender/race inequalities because that is just factually untrue. In an ideal world "objective" should mean exactly what it does, but it is rarely used in that way when it comes to educating people about "unpleasant" but extremely important history. Especially, considering history is written by the winners. Thirdly, growing up in Texas in the U.S. - yes, a lot of education here (in my experience) about the Civil War paints it in a very specific light as conflict about states rights exclusively. Slavery surely was mentioned, but not being properly represented in the retelling as states rights. Fourthly, I think my view and trust of people in power/or in general is a little more on the pessimistic side, especially when I'm misinterpreted and they seemingly charge in to insult rather than educate/converse, but I am only soo cynical because I expect and hope for better. I have no problem with educating people on the facts, in a lot of cases that exclusively is preferred. Issues as complex as race/gender NEED to be taught with more nuance, because, if we're going just based on facts, racism must have ended the second after the Civil Rights Act (in the eyes of some people.) Which is obviously not true, but this is the kind of misinformation that can come about of maybe-not-so-well-meaning people advocating for exclusively "objective" education. Also, your statement of "fortunately that era ultimately won everyone the same rights," is just "objectively" wrong. I would venture to even say is wholly misinformed. If that were the case then Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Movement would not have existed. I understand feeling passionately, but insults are not necessary and introspection may be. If I am wrong on this I would very much like an explanation as to why I am, sans insults please. Sorry that was a lot to dump but I wanted to make myself clear.

@@TuxedoMasc "When I was mentioning "objective" - I was meaning in the way it is often used to white wash history and gloss over the very real events/life experiences of the people involved." That would be a subjective interpretation from the people who were in power at the time. If something is objective, it stays objective. You used the wrong word. Fair enough. "Secondly, I would never say/insinuate there is no fact based truly objective evidence of gender/race inequalities because that is just factually untrue." You did insinuate as such but I'll take it as an honest mistake/misspeak. "In an ideal world "objective" should mean exactly what it does, but it is rarely used in that way when it comes to educating people about "unpleasant" but extremely important history. Especially, considering history is written by the winners." No. Objective does mean exactly what it means. History is not an objective field of study. You said it yourself, it's written by the winners which means it is interpreted and sorted by people with a bias and there's no regulation of that bias until you get into the years of peer reviewed papers. It's a subjective field of study with some objective truths (i.e. slavery happened). "Issues as complex as race/gender NEED to be taught with more nuance, because, if we're going just based on facts, racism must have ended the second after the Civil Rights Act (in the eyes of some people.) " You act like race and gender are some unexplored monolith of complexity. They're barely worth studying in the first place but, even when studied, not that difficult to understand. Besides that, there are plenty of *facts* that point to racism not ending after the Civil Rights Act. Be honest (with yourself). You've never heard someone say racism ceased to exist after the Civil Rights Act. What you heard is someone say something along the lines of "we put laws in place to prevent discrimination" and you interpreted that to mean them denying the existence of current day racism. "Also, your statement of "fortunately that era ultimately won everyone the same rights," is just "objectively" wrong." No it isn't. Ultimately. Ultimately. Words are important. I use words the way they are meant to be used. And, really no aggression meant but, you clearly don't. That era and those events had to happen in order for other strides to be made *ultimately*. TLDR; You should have used "subjective" not "objective". Those words don't change meaning just because people misuse them. I imagine we disagree on how important race and gender actually are and almost certainly on whether it should be studied as intently as it is. We can agree to disagree on what an "aggressive response" is. My "insult" was an attempt at evoking introspection on your end. I have a plethora of it myself. No hard feelings. You responded maturely enough, which is more than most people can claim.
@TuxedoMasc
@TuxedoMasc 2 года назад
@@Haylla2008 I guess we can only agree to disagree. I truly wasn't saying that there is no fact based evidence of discrimination, because there is. And I'm not exactly sure why you don't believe me when I say that, but fine, can't change your perception. I do think think that gender and race are complex issues, the fact that we still have problems with them in almost every society to this day is evidence enough that we still haven't gotten it right after 200,000 years. So, yeah, I think it's kind of important and worth studying. You're use of the word "ultimately" IS incorrect b/c we still don't all have the same rights for everyone yet. So, therefore, wrong. (Though I'm sure you'll argue that's not true.) Also, the "misuse" of words. Firstly, language always involves intent and isn't black and white. I was talking about how people themselves misuse the word "objective." So, I'm not sure why you're (seemingly) willfully misunderstanding me. Secondly, "those words don't change meaning just b/c they misuse them." Language - like race/gender - is complex. This happens, and is well documented, in language all the time. That's how words that originally thought of as nonsense, "irregardless," become part of the dictionary. You are thinking to one dimensionally about language, but I guess that just my opinion. Though I agree in this case it's people, let's say "misrepresenting" the word "objective" rather than misusing. Though I'm sure I give a similar impression, in the regards to believing steadfastly I'm right, you seem to be someone who thinks a very binary and literal way. And I think that thinking doesn't serve well in regards to issues as complex as race/gender or language, but fine. Agree to disagree. Thank you for being civil with me - have a nice day.

However when I came back to Korea, I realized feminisms here that took root are more of that of misandry. Most 'so called' feminists are not voicing out on equality but rather wanting to create a divide and gain privilege's. Unfortunately the true feminists are far low in number for many reasons. (1. Education, most radical feminists don't bother to educate themselves on most topics, its mostly yelling, if you tune in almost any talk or debate you can see that- One reason a public started viewing ALL feminists as idiots) 2. Image- due to the creation of a a radical feminist website all talks were shared within then released into the public. Among such talks were chats between members claiming "I want to stab my father since he's a male" "I scratched our neighbors car because he's a guy" "Wanting to just kill a random boy on the streets" "All males are potential criminals"- Now you see that's where I had to stop my support within Korea. As from those news I realized 'Feminism' doesn't or merely exists in Korea. Mostly angry, people who need society or males to blame cloak themselves in the guise of 'feminism' here. I see a lot of youtube comments hating on Koreans for this issue, but realize this is not a simple case like other parts of the world were 'feminism' is being hunted down for no reason. Some men do body shame women but I don't think it's ever in public advertisements that everyone can see because that's just going to lose money for the company who put out the ad. Body shaming women has come to a point in society where 99% of people agree that it is horrible. But bodyshaming men is still seen as a funny joke and if men where to speak up about it, they are called "too sensitive". Really just plays into the way that society expects men to be this stable emotionless tree that provides and takes anything positive or negative without any complaint.

It sounds like Korean right-ring men’s activists are successfully hijacking and rebranding what feminism is for the less informed masses. Similar hijacking occurs with other social movements. The far right rebranded Black Lives Matter (an anti police brutality movement) as lawless looters; they rebranded democratic socialism (the current systems of Canada and many Northern European countries) as the totalitarian regimes of Soviet Russia. Unfortunately in the US the common person is too uninformed to not fall prey to such tricks.

I used to call myself a feminist in early 2020. All I know was feminism is about equal rights for both women and men. I was like, oh yeah of course, why not? Equal rights isnt a bad thing. But then it kinda put me off that a lot of feminist I met online are just plain rude to men. Like, for no reason. They're blaming everything on men. I didnt really care abt this at first, thinking that it was probably just some of them, but it got worse. When I voice my opinion that happens agaisnt these feminist, they call me out. If I stand by someone who happens to be a man, I get called out pick me girl or even internalized misogynist. I was confused. Im also a feminist so why having a different opinion considered as betrayer? And the more I realized, all they can do is just screaming equality with no context, and blame everything on men. They're trying so hard to picture all men are trash. And then I had a comversation with my brother abt the whole gender issue. I was so persistent that feminism isnt bad, only a few of them. I was really in a denial. But as I talked with my brother, it opened my mind that the feminism that we know thesedays (radical feminist), isnt going to solve anything. I then decided to stop calling myself a feminist or just stop labelling myself as a part of a certain group. A specific movement with so many people in it can get really toxic so fast. Just remember this, you dont have to be a feminist to fight for equality. Being a woman doesnt mean you have to be a feminist. Being a man who isnt a feminist, doesnt mean you're being misogynist. You dont need to be an activist to be a decent human being. Just be kind and respectful to other people regardless of gender or any other differences.

We can work in the same place, same position, same boss, same environment, yet if you have a different performance, you'll have a different salary. And is it equal? Is it fair? Yes it is. Men and women are built different, and those differences play a big role in our life. Im all for equal rights & oppurtunity. As long as we put so much effort on what we do, then of course. I dont want to be treated as weak just bcs Im a woman, and Im pretty sure men dont want to be treated a someone who's always strong to the point they cant have emotions. We have to treat each other with full respect. But its a different story if you want to talk abt equal outcome. Since its not always good thing🤷🏻‍♀️

@@ppzoe_1228 South Korea is definitely one of the most westernised Asiatic countries. The culture is significantly different to every other country in Asia. Buddhism, Confucianism, and Christianity have all played a big role in shaping this culture which has generally made Koreans act quite respectfully to one another when in person. Of course this also brought many downsides, including the general hiding of emotions. This is one of the main reasons social media is extremely heated in Korea, where people can anonymously vent out their emotions, as the marketing interviewee mentioned. It's an interesting dynamic for sure, and it's not quite for everyone. Korea is still amazing in many regards tho

I'd love to know more about feminism in Korea. Different groups and perspectives. I don't know about this Megalian group, but I'd love to listen to their perspective to see if there's actually misandry or there's more. Also I'd love to listen to more feminists there and their complaints/views P.D: I really wish people knew what radical feminism is. It doesn't mean "extreme", it means "from the root". It's a philosophical-political issue, it's not about misandry. Please read a book or two on feminism. Like actual feminism written by philosophers, not by influencers or something like that, okay? Next time try to use proper terms if you're talking about sociopolitical issues. Thanks.

Interesting topic as always with Asian Boss 😎! I do agree with the lady in the white mask that the original message of feminism which calls for increased awareness and to stand up for the issues of women’s rights a good thing. The bad comes when the original message is lost or easily distorted into something else. In this case perhaps the demeaning of men. While feminism calls for the recognition of women’s rights, it does not excuse the behaviour of bringing down someone else! Feminism at its core is a movement aimed at making society more inclusive and promoting discrimination or demeaning the dignity of other groups just to bring oneself up!
