I love this sifus style. He's fast and smooth yet slow enough to understand. These videos don't go into extreme detail but that's the point. They're just videos, it's up to us and our teachers to delve into each technique.

I practice a Filipino Kuntao system which, as the name suggests, has roots in Chinese martial arts. A lot of what we practice is similar to the techniques I've seen on this channel. There are some differences in the way they blended with indigenous fighting methods. Still, it's really cool to think about the history of sinification in Southeast Asia. I like to think some Shaolin master found himself in the Philippines and began trading ideas with local warriors. :)

great video, it's good to see Chinese grappling used in a 'live' situation, I practice Hung Kuen kung fu and there is a heavy emphasis on sparring, it's a whole different world fighting a resisting opponent.

Just remember everyone: he BLOCKED the knee before he scooped it. That's important, because if you try and scoop a clinch knee and don't block it, it's going to hit your head anyway and you're gonna have a bad time.

Good stuff. Functional, practical, efficient. I was raised training western boxing since age four til my thirties and grappling since age six til adulthood. I thought gung fu was impotent because ever since the Maoist communist revolution in China murdered all martial arts masters and replaced it with sport wushu. But in the 90s I met sifu Keith Fain and wanted to touch hands, spar, with him and see if he could stop my boxing combos and grappling takedowns. He was incredible. I couldn't touch him. Then I was graded by sifu Emin Boztepe and part of our grading we had to fight him, full contact, and really try to hurt him but he rag dolled me and threw me down repeatedly. In the military, in full contact challenges, I'd been undefeated and had a reputation among my military peers for being a dominant fighter and was successful in defeating collegiate folk wrestlers, college wrestlers, TMA black belts, golden gloves. I was invited to teach hand to hand combat to 5th Group members. I boxed competitively in the Army and did well. So I believed myself to be an apex predator in unarmed combat. But Emin Boztepe sifu as well as Keith Fain sifu of AWTO just ragdolled me. . . It was very humbling, frustrating and impressive. I've never again met nor seen another gunfu sifu that convinced me they could handle a western boxer & submission grappler like myself. Your video demonstrations make me suspect that you may be another extraordinary gunfu sifu that can apply your training in real world self defense. Haters will hate but real recognizes real. I would've remained at student of sifu Fain and sifu Boztepe but my military career kept me away, then I went to a private CCA penitentiary (gladiator school) where the training with sifu Fain & sifu Boztepe helped me alot against much bigger predators in extreme close quarters inside prison cells. On the rec yard, in open spaces, my western boxing & judo helped me. But in extreme close quarters inside a prison cell the Boztepe Wing Tsun & Latosa Escrima training served me better. Different methods for different terrain.

I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel. It's refreshing to hear from Real martial artists seeing true pressured techniques. Thanks for telling your story. You have a vast experience with martial arts that most don't have and that is a great weapon to have in your arsenal. Keep your training strong and push for greater understanding. Blessings and light my brother. Thanks again for supporting. I will follow and check out ur channel . 🤙🤙🤙🙏

How do you do these two man drills in training? Is anything pre-arranged or is it completely spontaneous? I'm used to the Tae Kwon Do/Karate one punch attacks but I see that this is much better. I'm just trying to figure out how to incorporate them in training
@DubiousDubs
@DubiousDubs 4 месяца назад
I can't speak for everyone, but my gym does a progression of drills. The starter drills are very much so prearranged so you can learn the technique properly. Then the difficult is increased by moving around, and your partner throwing at random intervals. The last drill is combining 3 or 4 drills- for 3 minute rounds, your partner will randomly throw one of the 3 or 4 combos/attacks, and you need to appropriately defend against them. And ofc after that, it's just sparring but with an emphasis on trying to learn a certain technique

Great video.. I would like to ask the sifu: What is the diffrence between shwaijo and chin na? Is there any elements of the above in hongqueen (hongar) style?
@AuthenticShaolin
@AuthenticShaolin 5 лет назад
Suai jiao and chin na have elements that are very similar in that suai jiao has 4 main studies. Grabbing, locking, throwing, punching and kicking. All styles are very similar. Just different entry and exit of the techniques. Each style is a piece to the pie of martial fighting. Thank you very much for a great comment and question. Please subscribe and share. 🙏🙏🙏

That last move when he reversed and you countered was awesome! That's the kind of thing I like to see. To see the technique countered by the opponent and then watching you defend it again. Very practical 🔥
