Open passing (gold/slow advanced) group. Wild day at gold group with lots of incidents. My vision was all over the place leading to bad inputs and driving, I missed an all black flag, I left the A/C running at one point, heat problems all day, insane understeer on a couple corners (mainly due to bad inputs I think), two(!) new cracks on my windshield, and BMW precrash making its presence felt a couple times. Only a few things went right today: I set a decent baseline for future laguna days, my rears no longer rub, and my car is intact. Maybe as I get better on this track, I'll like it more, but as of writing, it's my least favorite norcal track. Too many straights.
Last time I was out here, I didn't stay flat through t1. It's cool that I'm able to do it now, though the bigger bump there sometimes threw me off. T2 gave me problems all day. I kept trying to double apex it, and I don't think I nailed it a single time. Too much understeer, but sometimes I was able to rotate the car which kept giving me hope. I might just do a single late apex so I can launch out of the corner. T3 gave me some problems, which is a recurring theme since it's a decreasing radius turn. I kept overslowing and/or not using the new runoff on T5, so I'm thinking I could treat it more like a 90deg turn. My corkscrew felt okay, but I think I'm lifting too early into T9. More understeer problems on T11, culminating in some rage at the end. The car is likely a sub 40 car. Just need to develop into a sub 40 driver.
Setup notes:
Installed F/R endlinks, which I think helped a lot with the fast corners. Also, the homies at Performance Technic raised the car a quarter inch and with some alignment magic, we only lost .1-ish of front camber with absolutely no rubbing. Insane work. Also spoke with the eggplant supra guys (Will and Gary), and apparently upgrading the intake manifold will make all the heat problems go away on a stock tune. Hopefully I'll have that in for Labor Day weekend at Thunderhill.
