Open passing (gold/slow advanced) group. Going into the day, my primary goals were to drive hard enough to finish my tires and to clean up some lines. I also knocked my alignment off back at Sonoma last weekend, requiring ~5deg of steering input to go straight, so I really wasn't expecting any major lap time improvements. Instead, I got my first sub 40 and was able to consistently put down 40s, thanks in part to cool weather and hardly any traffic. Lots of quality seat time without having to do cooldown laps and manage traffic. I would say though that I like some of the drama that comes from having a busy track.
My new catalyst dares to suggest my optimal is mid 38, so perhaps my ultimate goal is 37 with better lines/inputs, fresh tires, and similar weather. Aside from being the backup recorder, I'm not totally sure how best to use the catalyst yet. I did try reviewing laps in between sessions, but it's still difficult. An unexpected downside to the new setup is that it's harder to sync the video with the data now that my phone isn't visible. I'll have to figure out a better way to do this moving forward.
Next track day is at Laguna again (😪) on the 16th. I was also going to sign up for new year's eve at Laguna since it's hella cheap (90db), but apparently my car generates a whopping 95db of refined B58 music. I might still do it, but stay in 5th or something like drive off line. Or I can just say screw it, fail sound, and just be a passenger.

Great driving! I love the aggression coming out of turn 6. Ur almost in the outside dirt on exit…every lap 😃.

Good to see you again at Laguna, Chris. That you're putting down times comparable to my M4 in an M340 on lesser tires has me chagrined, but I'll see if I can't do something about that next weekend with NCRC. Sorry I'll miss you the following weekend - it was one or the other for me and that's what was available for friends and myself. Never did find Joe(?) with Apex, though I doubt he would have wanted pictures of their wheels so dirty. On the other hand, I did get featured in the SpeedSF post event email, so there's that (Trevor's skills are amazing). Such a joy to watch your vids as always.

Get as much seat time as I have, and I have no doubts you'll be putting down some crazy times. Yea I can't do the NCRC laguna because I'll be getting serious driver mod with fastsideways that weekend. Though I'm sure I'll see you out there in the not so distant future. Also, I just saw that email with you going sideways out of 11 🔥

I'm going on Dec. 30th. If the B58 setup is louder than the S58 setup, then I have no words. Congrats on the fast laps! Turn on advanced coaching on the Catalyst if you haven't already.

My car has both an aftermarket downpipe and exhaust, and it's way louder than stock. My buddy in the M4 CSL passed a 90db day w/ NCRC , so a stock G8X should pass. I actually turned off the sound coming from the catalyst. Not sure if I'm ready to be told what to change during a session since I like to feel my way through things. Thanks for the advice though; I just found out I can change those settings in the drive menu LOL.

Pretty smooth lap. Looked easy. GO FASTER :) My tip to laying catalyst footage on top... Find the exact point you first cross over the starting line with the tip of your car. Use the line and car as a reference point. Make a marker on the video file at that timecode. Then do that same exercise with the gopro. Then line up the two markers/points. (You should be in the exact same spot) You can also use the g-meter to tweak any small differences that may be left. Watch the ball and tweak to your inputs. Can also use the delta timer to match the catalyst tablet delta timer. (they wont ever be exactly 1:1, because times get refactored at the end of session, but can help get close)

I'm 100% down for easy and smooth PB laps LOL. I actually don't want to overlay catalyst footage at all. When I still had full view of my phone, it was easy to line up the gopro footage with the data since the phone showed the data. Now, I have to use the catalyst starting its timer to line up lap 1 (or 2) in the data, and there seems to be a bit of a delay with the catalyst.

@@chrispy28 Oh i see. You ever used the GPS data on the gopro and the GPS data on phone app to sync them? Pretty sure that is what racerender app is all about. It does the syncing and export of the videos for you. (You need to have the setting turned on in gopro menu for it to work) Ive never actually done data overlay manually.
