@@GirolamoZanchi_is_cool whats wrong with invoking departed saints? are they alive or dead? dont we Christians believe that departed saints are alive in Christ and share fellowship with Him even now? So if they are with Jesus, and we can be united with Jesus, where is the barrier between my spirit and the spirit of a departed saint? we are all one body, arent we?
The maniches (I’m sure I’m spelling that incorrectly) almost sounds gnostic with the idea that the physical world is evil, when God said he creation was good. Not saying it is gnostic, just sounds like there are some parallels. Probably created by the difficulty with reconciling the character of the ‘God of the OT and the NT’ which is, in fact, the same God.
The dualism of the Manichees can almost certainly trace some of its ideas back to Zoroastrianism, the religion of ancient Iran. The prophet Zoroaster taught that there are two gods, one good and one evil. In his teaching it was the good god who created the material universe. Gnostics picked up some of these ideas, but one big change was that they believed it was the evil god who created the material universe.

Bosnia actually had a large Bogomil presence into the time of the Ottoman conquest. It's believed that the Bogomils are one reason why Bosnia developed a Muslim majority, the population was already primed to accept Muslim claims.
To be fair, the Mennonites don't believe in Menno Simon's doctrine of Christ's heavenly flesh. The problem with such a doctrine is that it makes Jesus the sole member of a separate human race, rather than a member of our race--which thus makes Him unable to save us, as He would then not be a descendant of Adam and could not undo Adam's sin. One needs to keep in mind the saying by St. Gregory Nazianzus in his 101st epistle that "whatever Christ did not assume is not redeemed." Jesus avoided inheriting Adam's sin by His Virgin Birth--that's the whole point of the Virgin Birth. I think I would avoid calling Adam Pastor's followers "Adamites." There were several groups throughout history called Adamites, and they had nothing to do with Adam Pastor. They practiced nudism in the hope that by acting the way Adam and Eve did before the Fall, they could undo the effects of the Fall. (Yeah--that really didn't work out.)
If the Blessed Virgin wasn’t immaculately conceived, thus free from sin, how could Christ, who took His flesh from Her be sinless? You either have to accept the Eastern concept of ancestral sin or the immaculate coneption
@@dvinb Your argument is nonsensical, as is the doctrine of the immaculate conception of Mary. If God was willing to preserve Mary from inheriting sin from her parents simply by saying the word, then why couldn't He have done so with Jesus as well? What then would be the point of His virgin birth?
Luther believed in the Immaculate Conception, atleast in his earlier years. I‘m just asking, how can Christ have sinless flesh, if He received His flesh from another sinful flesh, what is the mechanism behind preventing the sinfulness of His flesh and what is the scriptural, patristic or philosophical basis for the belief in a mechanism which can remove the stain of original sin?
The Amish are a subset of the Mennonites. All Amish are Mennonites, but not all (or even most) Mennonites are Amish. The differences between the Amish and the other Mennonites are not theological, but rather about culture and how they conduct their day-to-day lives, with the Amish being more separated from the outside world than are the other Mennonites, especially in terms of things like the use of technology. The Amish are a very factious bunch, with new denominations forming all the time over such issues as how broad the brim of a man's hat is allowed to be.
I answer some theological questions on Quora and I run into what sure seem like Bogomils all the time. Deny the Trinity, hate the established church, and even that Michael was Jesus. What goes around comes around, I guess.

I've heard that Adamites went extinct because of their rigorous dress code, and the cold climate of the mountains they lived in. They believed that their redemption had returned them to a state of Edenic innocence, therefore clothes were sinful.

Opposed to dualism in a metaphysical sense? Yes, as Christianity teaches there is only one God. In regard to the day-to-day battle between good and evil that we're all living through, Christian teaching is more dualistic (in a pragmatic sense) than most people realize.
Notice that the moment the laity are given the Bible they resurrect every heresy of late antiquity. Either the laity aren't supposed to have Bibles, or there really is no scriptural basis for orthodoxy.
Your first conclusions make sense, historically, since these aren't laity coming up with the heresies. There is also no Scriptural basis for drawing such a conclusion. Your second conclusion is...nonesensical. You are essentially saying that the Bible doesn't teach that people should follow the Bible rightly. How about a third conclusion. There are evil people and the devil is quite good at twisting Scripture. That seems both Scripturally and historically sound.

@@Catholic-Perennialist I'm not sure what you're asking. I'm not sure if it's actually related to my comment, either. The only thing I can think is that my use of the word "evil" through you off. Since the fall, all humans are naturally enemies of God and do evil things (because we're evil by nature). Just read "evil" as equivalent to "fallen". Evil people twist Scripture. Demoted? Not sure what you mean by that. If Jesus (who was in a state of humiliation at the time He spoke this) says His Father (who was not in a state of humiliation) is greater than Him...is that somehow a controversy? I'm not sure if you're claiming that this statement is somehow Jesus saying that He's not God (which is heresy and obviously so based on the text of Scripture). I'm fairly sure you are claiming that there are multiple Christologies in Scripture, which probably means you need to review Cooper's Christology-related videos. There is one Christology, but people who miss the whole "God incarnate" bit tend to get confused and think there are multiple.
@@carlh7714 There are multiple christologies in the New Testament, but you use hermeneutics like a steam roller to crush all of scripture into the simplistic box of orthodoxy. Peter's first sermon was adoptionist.
@@Catholic-Perennialist It's more so that we try not to pit God's word against itself because we know He's not lying to us, so we look at things like context.
So, what you're saying is that St. Paul is a heretic since he clearly says justification is by faith and that Scripture is the source for doctrine. Unless you mean Rome's errors with respect to Paul's doctrinal teachings?
