It’s not a problem on your TV. This is happening on Netflix for at least six months regardless of what device is used to watch. It’s not happening in every country, but it happens in a few different countries. A Brazilian channel called Mundo Conectado did some investigation and found a few things that might help explain what’s going on: Netflix is being sued by DivX, so Netflix is starting to use the AV1 codec instead of DivX’s codec, but AV1 does not support Dolby Vision at the moment (for devices that don’t support AV1, another codec is used). Also, Netflix is testing their own HDR technology, which aims to make dynamic optimizations and to be format-agnostic. Overall, in my experience Netflix’s image quality has become worse since they started these tests. At first they weren’t even delivering 4K properly. Now 4K seems to be mostly fixed, but Dolby Vision never returned. The RU-vid channel I mentioned tested using a VPN to simulate being in the USA or Europe and Dolby Vision worked, confirming the situation region specific, but I’m personally not interested in using a VPN to solve this myself.
Facts. My TVs are connected to my router but blocked from accessing the internet. Not about to catch me agreeing to some stupid eula agreement revision that I have to agree to to continue using my tv.
I have not noticed any differences after the firmware upgrade. I checked my calibration with my Display Plus HL and the brightness is unchanged. I dont use Dolby Vision on Netflix, so I can't comment on that, but Dolby Vision works from my DVD player. Thanks as always for your time and efforts to share this with us all. Stay well, Sir, and all the best.
Always enjoy your videos, Ariel. I haven't updated my LG C1 in quite a while. Since I'm using an eARC extractor for my PC and gaming consoles (because my older Denon receiver doesn't support HDMI 2.1), I just never update the firmware since everything works flawlessly now. Having owned a display in the past from a sketchy company with awful firmware (Vizio), I have PTSD from updating the firmware on that set.
I appreciate you. Thanks for stooping by! I wouldn't update if it wasn't for the channel. I use it as a monitor, and I'd just unplug it from the internet.
Man I recently discovered you and I must say you are a hidden gem of this community, I like your in depth analysis and explanation, they are for everyone understanding and the thing is I’m watching for a tv/ monitor to pair it with my Xbox series x and I wanna play black desert on it wich is a mmorog I have in mind the Philips momentum 32 inch monitor and I wait for a better option from yours side or if you know something that pairs perfect with what I need . thank you in advance and I’m waiting your answer like a kid Christmas Eve
The performance of BDO isn't great from what I searched. The LG C4 is overpriced right now. I prefer TVs over monitors because you get a bigger screen for the money plus more settings. If you want a monitor, I'd say just get an OLED with glossy finish, either WRGB (most have mat unfortunately) or QDOLED.
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 thank you for the fast reply , did you had the tine to watch over the philips monitor that i mentioned ? And you think monitor would be faster as input lag or responsevness ?You mentioned the c4 is thar the best tvs has to offer these days
I have a C1 65", this update has fixed an issue I had with the home app page, pressed off the home button on remote. When the TV was first turned on the main apps were at the top of the TV and not along the bottom, as they should be, the home dashboard was at the bottom. Now it is back to how it was before the previous update that messed it up.
I turned off auto update 2 updates ago. One thing that frustrates me now, is my 4k Pioneer 7.2 receiver doesn't turn on with my C1 when turning it on. It's HDMI connect to my PC and receiver. Maybe a half year of ownership, they both started turning on together, which made me super happy! At some point down the road, it stopped working again?!?! Yet, when turning my PS5 on/off they both do so together without fail. Always enjoy your video's good sir. 👍👍 🍻
Hi Ariel, i hope everything is fine with you. Man please make more videos, i love your content even when you don’t upload videos about console or something related to it I watch it till the end because you always give useful information. I hope you have success with work that you are doing currently.
I posted on a previous firmware video about my color tuning not working on Vivid and I just figured it out recently. The Auto Genre Selection in AI Service Menu was on in that specific picture mode. If you have this or any LG TV make sure that only AI Picture Pro is turned on and not any brightness or genre options in each individual picture mode.
So, I personally have the CX and C2 65’ and for myself with the settings that were already in place for viewing movies or playing PS5 and XBSX, I have actually noticed the opposite. My picture is far more clear than ever before, my options in the menus for both gaming and movies or streaming albeit have changed locations but are still available and not greyed out like most people reported. I’m actually quite happy with the updates and feel it’s like a new LG OLED. 🤷🏼♂️
I don't use any of the Smart TV features since I just have it connected to my PC, so I don't even bother connecting my tv to the internet. Especially since the updates don't seem to change image quality at all from watching your other videos
For the bluelight, I actually just made an autohotkey script for that. When night-ish time arrives, I press a key combo on my keyboard and it switches to that instantly. I've also created other profiles, like for desktop browsing, or if I just need it to be dimmer. Easier and quicker to switch than via remote control, especially when your hands are almost always on the keyboard. I even made a profile where it blacks the whole screen, so whenever I got for a quick break, I can blank the whole screen to give it a bit of a break as well.
If you using TV only as monitor, you can just in your router disable access to internet for you TV. Features like LGTV companion for your LG TV to run alongside your PC or other home-based features on your local network will still work. It's just that the TV just won't get updates.
CRT holdout who was watching OLED for awhile... 2019: Full external access to the 120Hz 4K 10 bit panel with the introduction of HDMI 2.1. Hardware based rolling scan BFI teased, but removed in shipping product. 2020: Hardware based rolling scan BFI released to glorious effect. (Though not actually CRT sharp, I expect this is an issue of diminishing returns as the CX is such a leap forward regardless.) 2021: 60Hz BFI persistence increased over brightness concerns presumably, but critically 120Hz BFI preserved with the CX's shorter persistence and apparently a 2nd LUT is added to help with brightness curve during BFI operation. (This 2nd LUT might be lost following autocalibration. Not sure but had heard as much...) 2022: Excited anticipation of hardware based rolling scan BFI now in a 42 inch size...wait, oh no it's gone?! Terrible! How can this be? Ended up with a 48 inch CX. I almost waited too long as the last of the new old stock CX and C1s were disappearing rapidly. Lucked out after several failed attempts to get one. As the CX had been sitting in the box for awhile, I did the one big firmware update and then removed it from the Internet. (It was still early days for some of its tech and it was released as a work in progress, but after over two years I figured those critical firmware updates were now in place. And that the risks might exceed the benefits of leaving it connected...) I think these are some of the greatest displays ever made. Hope they last. Love your work! (Subscribed of course.) EDIT: Grammar.
My new 65" C3 arrived in the weekend to replace broken C1. Shame about losing BFI high setting but really I only used it in Lies of P and 3 other games (as have separate 42" C2 monitor for PC gaming). Didnt notice much difference between c3 and c1 initially, but having spent more time with it main noticeable difference is that the average whole screen picture brightness in viewing SDR content (like tv shows, anime etc) is a lot brighter than C1 even when using Film maker mode(whichnis a lot darker on C1 at default settings). This isnt always a good thing and Im still getting used to it(in some shows/genres i prefer the darker image of the c1 film maker mode). Low light dimming does not seem to be a thing on c3 frombthe night scenes/shows I have tried do far (ir games like diablo 4 where it could occur on c1/c2). HDR highlights are slightly brighter but not by enough to make a major difference. HDR whole screen brightness(real use) also appears to be slightly brighter and you can have multiple light sources (eg moonlight with multiple torches in Rise of the Ronin night scene) that retain brightness without dimming. Again the higher overall brightness isnt always a good thing (eg going into a cave in c3 I can see everything in the shadows clearly including low resolution textures on the walls, whereas on c1 in same cave the overall picture would be darker and i wouldnt be able to make out those low resolution wall and rock textures 😂). I need to test the motion handling of low framerate content further but initial impressions are that 30fps content, like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Graphics mode, is a little bit smoother, with less head ache inducing judder than was getting on C1 (actually making it playable even if not as good as 40 or 60fps VRR). There is sldo noticeably less judder in animated (eg anime) content on panning scenes. Film maker mode can also be customized to include LFC (which is a separate setting/option now) meaning you dont have to use game mode and can create a custom film maker mode that looks better and gives you same low latency(but I am too lazy to set this up so just go with game mode). Apart from above minor changes though, if my C1 didn't break i would have been happy sticking with it (and the improvements so far are just minor enhancements based on individual use cases) so no need to upgrade from a C1 if yours is still working without issue.
Which tv you think has richer colors? Technically speaking I think it would be the c1 considering that it's not as bright as you know woleds push white light which desaturates colors at higher brightness.
Hi Ariel, i am really curious what changes did you make to your friend’s game optimiser? Also wanted to ask when using std mode what is the difference if i set 50 or 57 , i know less clipping but what less clipping will give me? Thank you !😄
Less clipping allows you to see more shades of color that would look the same near the max, so instead of 2 reds looking exactly the same, you might see a less saturated red close to a max one
I haven’t “updated” my c2 since the Dolby vision precision detail setting was added. Both my OLED’s are off the internet. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Looks like it fixed a few issues a was having with Disney plus and Dolby vision it's now changed to HDR for shogun lol so strange noticed Dolby vision not working on netflix also and Dolby Atmos that's all a have noticed so far mate
Hey Ariel, I know that I am asking too much but it really helps me, currently I am really into sharpness setting. What sharpness you recommend for upscaled to 4k games as most ps5 games on performance mode just upscale to 4k. Is it any different? Thanks😊
Still waiting for more reviews of the G4 with the new alpha 11 and its useful AI features for motion handling and other things, also with more increased brightness than the G3, also the Samsung S95D looks promising now with the new anti glare screen and increased peak brightness as well.
Easy, just disable Internet access for the tv😂 that's what I do. I use a Chromecast instead. I'm paranoid that the firmware will remove abl toggles via service menu or reduce brightness, something like that
Been considering upgrading my 55" C1 to a 77"G4 ... But at the price of the latter it would be better to wait another year for the G5 as the C1 is still fine. I just have a window behind the TV boarded up with cardboard sheets and a patio door on the other side of the lounge, the C1 is useless in summer with full sunlight.
Hey I know this might not be related to this video in particular but have you ever checked your TV for dead pixels? Especially around the edges of the screen? Because I bought a new 55 inch c1 OLED 1 year ago, and I already have about 7 dead pixels all along the top edge of the screen. I was just wondering if I was unlucky with my panel. I always see people discussing OLED burn in, but they never discuss the potential of pixels dying.
Dead pixels are almost guaranteed in all TVs even when new. The last thing we want is to notice them. I'll go to the store and make a video with my 100x zoom camera to show all new TVs with dead pixels
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 I personally have never experienced actual dead (black) pixels on a normal lcd displays altho I have had a few stuck pixels here and there which I was able to fix. But anyway a video about the topic would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much!
Curious about what has changed, gonna look it up. AFAIK brightness is still about the same as C1, as it lacks the MLA panel right? I got a C1 and was thinking about upgrading to G3 or G4, but at my country it's really difficult to find those models at 55' size, and that's the max size that can fit well in my tiny room. Really hoped they would include the MLA panel in the C4 as well 😅
Personally haven’t noticed any changes at all, but what I did notice is that the game optimize menu is a bit different. The picture setting like std rpg… is locked now? I had it set to rpg and now it’s locked on that. Not sure why. I’ll have to test more when I can.
Hi, such a great channel! A quick question.. Do you use Gsync with your PC and how are you using it? Do you cap frames or switch Vsync On in Nvidia panel? These are settings I have..but! I tried to disable Gsync in the tv game menu, leaving only Freesync Premium and it feels soooo silky smooth!! Have you tried this? I have LG CS and 4090.
@plasmatvforgaming9648 Thanks! I love Oled's. I'm not sure why having Gsync/VRR switched off in tv menu and Freesync Premium On with vsync on in Nvidia Panel feels smoother than Gsync/ VRR... Have you tried this before?
A little off topic, but supposedly you can completely eliminate black crush from the new S90D QD-OLED by doing 3-pixel refresh cycles. And of course, you're getting those amazing QD-Colours and some improvements over the S90C. I'm just curious about the Game mode's BFI & motion interpolation latency, as well as how much brightness is left when using BFI in SDR at 60fps! :P Will you be making the upgrade to the S90D? I'd be pretty content with the 6.94ms persistence with it's 144fps on PC, and 8.3ms from 60fps BFI if the latter doesn't have too much latency or too much brightness loss. It's truly the first person genre that desperately needs a 1-2ms motion persistence. I've become so accustomed to my Quest 3's near blur-free 1ms+ motion persistence @85 nits. It's incredible. it's like gaming in 3D Inside a CRT TV. LOL Minus the LCD black levels and lack luster colours! This is where micro-oled comes in to play, and it WILL be a thing with Meta's Quest 3 Pro headset launching in 2025.
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 Gotcha! Well, it's just a matter of finding out how well it fairs in SDR brightness wise without BFI enabled. Supposedly it's 10% brighter than the S90C. But i'm not entirely sure if that's also for SDR and just not HDR. We all know the C1's BFI robs too much brightness from SDR game mode for games running at 60fps. According to you were saying the C1's 60fps BFI has around a 6.2ms persistence, so I'm guessing it's cutting down around 60% brightness from it's SDR game mode which is already not very bright to begin with, rather than 50% from 8.3ms. C1's SDR game mode can't afford to lose ANY brightness, it's already undelivering, compared to the C9 for ex. S90D should fair much better just because it's 60fps BFI is higher by 2ms and it's got more gobs of brightness for SDR game mode. But if it's still the same 29.4ms of lag, like it was with the S90C, than the setting is straight up useless in my eyes.
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 Yeah, this is why I bought it, and it has a new processor. So, we should get better processing, and hopefully, end up with better picture quality. I had a C9 and I really want improved blacks. I think this is the year to upgrade.
Hello there i have a question concerning oled motion pro, i play on ps5 so we canz change the Hz manually, so games at 30fps are still refreshed at 60 hz , u think using the settings for 60fps/hz would be better in that case ?
LG don't tell you about what is updated because most users don't understand what has been changed. usually a small update number after 03 or 04.xx.XX where XX is just a app bug fix most likely. Which in this case most likely is, it is most likely Web-OS update or app support. If major brightness loss is noticed after testing for a small firmware number change, I am sure LG will be petitioned and also many will go to Samsung or Sony because of that. I remember that happened with my CX, shortly 2 weeks later LG fixed it after huge complaint. They have not done similar updates that reduced the brightness since then on any of their OLED TVs, so I am sure that LG knows what they are doing. And No, they will never remove BFI from CX/C1 TVs, I just wish they added BFI 120 and BFI 144 on G4. But rumors is that it is still a very good TV with the new alpha 11 processor that is very great now actually usable with AI feature for motion handling, this might be your new TV upgrade?
is a c1 still worth it? I found a 55" used one for $900 and a 65" one for $800 with a dead pixel, that seems a little bit high even if it's the last oled TV to had BFI... Also about the BFI, is it usable with a dimly light room or I need to use it in complete darkness?
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 would u recommend buying c1 right now? I'm thinking about buying it and BFI sounds interesting plus if i can turn off auto dimming. I will be using in for 70% gaming 30% movies.
Ariel why are you using color depth on 50 in std but not 55 if they have almost the same color clipping but color depth 55 has more saturation. Just curious.
well after updating my C2 to webOs 23 the game genre in game optimizer is just stuck to fps (the one I used before the update) so my colour depth is stuck to 46 cause they greyed out it and added "game color depth" bs.... It didn't change much else so that's why I don't "reset" my settings because I'm not gonna bother to edit my white balance since it took me hours before.
Near black uniformity isn't great, but with white backgrounds, I haven't noticed dirt screen effect with my 48'. The bigger screen sizes usually show more uniformity issues
Thanks for the vdeo man, my C1 is not calibrated so would you say if I keep the color temperature a bit cooler close to 0 and do green -20 blue -50 will color still be kinda accurate? Gracias
I was actually able to get the 4K, 144hz, with HDR10 enabled on a TCL Q7 55-inch. Configured the Gsync to lock in with the Freesync Premium Pro, without having to use DP to DP (using HDMI 2.1 certified cable). Have you ever used CRU custom resolution utility to create any 4k 144hz custom resolutions? Is the LG C-series able to hit the 144hz to 165hz range for 4k?

Ariel what is your recommendation. Should I use color depth 50 or 55 if I like a little bit more saturated picture. The reason I am asking that is because I remember you told me that there is less clipping in 55 and 50. Thank you.
I updated recently to 13.30.56 and some features in advanced settings menu are all grayed out now when in game optimizer. (sharpness adjust, color depth etc.) Did they change something or is it a bug?
It didn't happen to me. A lot of people would have complained about it here in the comments. It might be a bug in your end. Umplug the TV from the wall for 10 min and try again
after new firmware I cannot change genre in game optimizer. Maybe you know the reason. I already even reset all setting to factory but still game optimizer genre is gray
A question....So when i use the switch i use hlg hdr on hgig. Worked no problem on lg c1...still does. However, on lg g3 the hgig goes super washed out. Any ideas what may be causing it?

Hi any way to block firmware updates and only use hbo, disney+ and similar apps or disabling automatic updates is enough? I buyed a c3 55 and im gonna give c1 to my parents
My C1 started developing dead pixels after 2.5 years. I searched the internet and found many cases from both older and newer series. On average, after about 2 years, the degenerative process begins. Most of the dead pixels at the beginning are close to the edges, sometimes they are in groups, then they reach more central areas.
Almost all OLED TVs, even brand new, at the store have dead pixels. The worst thing is to realize where they are because then you can't unsee it. I'll make a video at the store and show dead pixels in all TVs by using the zoom of my camera. I've done that before but haven't recorded it
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 My panel did not have a single dead pixel in the first 2 years. My C1 is 3 years old and it's on all day, everyday since day one. I cannot detect a single dead pixel on it anywhere. You might be wrong in that assumption based on your experience.
@@MrPsychosane I found ~10 cases on youtube and several forums with many people who have various OLED series, even C2, that started to develop dead pixels. The cases started from 6 months to 3 years, and all are degenerative. My TV has been developing new dead pixels in the corners for 2-3 weeks since I discovered the problem. It is clear that not all Oled TVs have this problem, but it is degenerative in all TVs where it has appeared. The problem appears after a period of time, it has nothing to do with how long the TV has been used. A TV developed these dead pixels standing in the box for 2 years. I think there are impurities from the manufacturing process that after a while cause certain pixels to die earlier.
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 is it true that C2 is brighter and more colourful than C1? And with better post processing and motion clarity, also less black crushing according to HDTV test. Are the differences even noticable? And is it possible to make C1 match C2 after proper calibration?
90% chance they will these days. Even Google does it and if they are linked to Google then it's more than possible. 3 Google Pixel phones have been fried by bloating the memory for OS requirement in the firmware updates forcing to upgrade. Googles much more trusted than LG as a company their TV's use to be worse then a costco vizio. If they use the new WEB OS 24 then they will absolutely will do this.
Ariel the problem with new web oss23 update on lg c2 is that it doesn’t change sharpness like before on fps mode. By default in new update sharpness is set to 25 and color depth 65 in game optimiser fps preset and on std by default its set to sharpness 10 and color depth 55. So when i set sharpness to 10 in fps preset and on std, there is no change whatsoever in fps mode like before. Before there was a difference. But when you set sharpness to 25 in fps preset then there is the difference I think in web os22 its by default set to sharpness 25 in fps and to 10 on std. That’s why colors are also different. So should I set sharpness to 35?? As it will equal to 10 like before. You know what I mean man? I am trying my best to explain
I'd triple check that. It's very unlikely that LG would change that with an update. My recommendation goes from testing it. If you try 25 and it looks better in the specific case then go for it
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 yes man they really changed it, i think in web os22 lg c1 its set by default to 25 that why sharpness is different also that is the reason why color depth is different too because its set by default to 65.
