I'm glad you found a solution, but 4 years later and LG washers STILL have this exact same problem. They haven't replaced the faulty board. $200 isn't an insignificant repair cost. They are willfully ignoring this problem with a simple fix.

After researching, I found a permanent fix without changing the $200 motherboard. I had the exact same problem shown here. Here's what worked for me: Unplug the machine, then press the power button for 5 seconds, and then press the start button for 5 seconds (this dumps any additional electricity from the capacitor). Then, I left machine unplugged all night. The next morning, I plugged it in with a surge protector in the outlet. Everything works perfectly now. I'm not sure why the surge protector made a difference but it did. A power strip should work equally well, if it has surge protection built in.

@Su Ya Rouhola It prevents surges of electricity from reaching your electronics at their peak. It helps to keep plugged devices safe. You can buy them everywhere from Target, Walmart, or Amazon. Here is an example: www.amazon.com/Single-Protector-Grounded-Adapter-Indicator/dp/B07NVGQNW5/

Let's start by saying that I'm not the smartest tool in the shed, but I had this problem with my LG washer and I have another possible solution. I found this video and I found other articles on the interweb stating that if you unplug the washer for 24 hours and then plug it in, it'll work again. Of course, I did the unplug thing first, since it was way easier. For me it worked. After several hours (I was too impatient to wait 24 hours) I plugged it back in and it started up. This got me to think that if the board had cr@pped out, it can't fix itself, so it must be something else, like a static charge or something that is causing the board to not work. Waiting the time for the board to discharge may be the solution. I am also aware that the electricity that comes into homes is not always that 'clean' it often has fluctuations in voltage. Could it simply be that my electrical service is the problem? To test this out I simply put a surge protector on my outlet and plugged the washer into the surge protector. I haven't had the problem since and it's been months AND I live on an island where we import our electricity from the mainland and there is a great possibility that fluctuations in voltage are everyday occurrences. Bottom line: unplug your washer for a day, put a surge protector on your outlet and see if this fixes the problem. It is easier and cheaper. If it doesn't work, then follow the video.

@@TheSeaBadger I'll try the 24 hour thing (or in my case, 48 hours, since I'll be gone for the weekend). The method in the video already didn't work, so I'm not too optimistic.

For what it's worth, to save the hassle of reaching over the washer to unplug it every time it went out, I plugged it into a switched surge suppressor that could sit on top of the washer and be easily reached. It has been at least 3 months now and we have not needed to use the switch. The machine turns on every time as it should without fail. May need the board down the road but for now the surge suppressor is working great. Thanks for the reset tip.

Tried all of the suggested solutions on youtube, and almost gave up. The last one worked, I turned off the washer, then used a hairdryer to lightly heat the start button for about two minutes and it worked. It was either the severe cold weather we are having causing condensation/moisture to affect the button. After heating with the hairdryer for a few minutes, I turned the washer on, then selected a cycle, then pushed the start button and it worked.

Thanks, I did the the steps you recommended to get it started. I thought I was going to have to go to a laundry to do this load which I so needed. As for the permanent fix I am not sure it can be done even by a repairman. I have the matching dryer installed on the top of the washer so it is not accessible. The washer is 13 years old and never have had any problems previously. The laundry room is very tiny and it would be very hard for anyone to do anything in there. I will just have to do the unplug, etc and just wait until the dryer also dies and then replace both. Right now it is working and I will see how it goes for the next load. THANKS!!!

I appreciate the tutorial. I've fixed or built circuit boards in electronics. I don't thinks it's my problem but was thinking a main fuse maybe. I put to heavy a load trying to do a wash plus some. Should never have overloaded it with pants in the top. The barrel wouldn't turn as it should and I tried taking out some and it still labored throwing an "LE" code 3-4 times until it shut off and locked in a few work tee shirts with a few gallons of water. I'll try what you did. Using my breaker box twice didn't work. I learned if you don't do laundry every month with a 10 year old washer certainly don't overload it.

My washer had no power indicators, no display lights. Tried the recommended hold the buttons for 5 seconds. Then removed the display to visually check the micro button switch for normal action, checked good. Check for power to the main control board (MCB) and power was going to the MCB, but no LED red light, the red LED would not illuminate. Order the MCB online and installed via video instructions. Plug the washer in to check for the LED red light on the MCB when I pushed the ON button.Checked good. Removed power, reinstalled the cover and panel and screws. Works well.

Great video, thank you. Now I’m curious what actually dies on the board. Seems like it must be a capacitor that went bad, can’t imagine why it would need a whole board. Considering it’s unlikely a fuse it would require board level repair , if someone wanted to save $200 Happening to my sister in laws washer, after every load (not even sure if it clears the cycle)

Watched videos and read comments for 2 hours the other night to find out why my Kenmore 79640311900 washer wouldn't power up; it’s built by LG. (We had a major storm on Easter and lost power for 2 days.) Found several videos saying to unplug it and hold buttons down, which basically allows it to time out so it works when you plug it back in (and it sparks) ; it works initially, but you must do this each time you use it (it does the same thing if you leave it unplugged for 10 to 30 seconds or turning the circuit breaker off). Several people found that plugging the washer into a power strip worked, instead of plugging directly to the outlet. Also saw where some videos say you must replace a $250 control board or some even a $50 noise filter. Found 2 mentions (in 2 hours) of unplugging machine for 30 minutes to allow capacitors to lose their charge before plugging it back in. Thought this was a bunch of dookie, but now it works like a charm! So far so good!

I have to post this for 2 reasons. 1) LG seems to have a lot of problem across ALL their front load washer line with this. $200+ dollars for a faulty engineered circuit board!?!? $.05 worth of parts!?!? Life is Good(LG) WOW, maybe for their executives, but not for the public consumer. This is the second LG washer I ahve had, and it will be my last. 2) To fix the problem for $5 or less, purchase a power strip from your local discount store. Plug you LG into the power strip, and the power strip to the wall outlet. When your washer doesn't trun on, turn the power switch off on the power strip count to 10, by one thousand one, one thousand 2, etc.. to 1 thousand 10, then turn the power strip back on. The chime with come on and this can now be your start button. When you get frustrated with this cycle of event, then trash you LG washer and purchase a Samsung, Maytag, or some other more reputable company, that isn't ONLY focused on the almighty dollar. Heck with LG!!

This is the ticket. Funny thing is I have a service company that fixes everything like this, they came out 3 different times and replaced the FRONT button circuit board. It never made any difference because they were replacing the wrong thing. Till I showed them this video : ). They replaced the back board like you did and it's worked fine ever since, it's been over a year now. That project took 6 months of unplugging, replugging etc. Also in the 5 years had this machine had to replace the the main tub and bearing. It's cost my service company over 2K just to keep it running. LG? Never again. For those that are old enough, you remember Goldstar? Goldstar was a bottom feeder electronics company that supplied Kmart in the 70's, 80's, etc. Real pieces of shit, but dirt cheap. News you can use, LG is Goldstar. Changed name is all. As I said, never again, not for anything. Thanks for the video!

Replaced the circuit board once and worked for another year or so. I do noticed the circuit board can get fairly hot (over 50C at the heat sink), and heat tends to cause the washer failing to restart the next time. So I added a fan with a temp sensor which cools the circuit board when it's above 30C, that extended the life of the original board for another year or so. This trick doesn't work as well on my second board, which seems to be a refurbished board. LG appears to have very high rating these days, and I'm consider to get another washer to rid this hassle altogether. Not sure if I'd get into the same issue if I choose LG again.

Many, many thanks - the unplug-buttons-etc. solution worked. My machine is probably 10 years old (older than yours); I may be back if I need a permanent fix :)

@Su Ya Rouhola I have had to use this trick a few times, but in between, the machine works just fine as it should. I have no idea why I occasionally need to do the plug/unplug routine, but I haven't had it repaired because it works most of the time. I use the machine 2--3 times a week and everything else works as it should

My machine is a Whirlpool. When I powered it on, all lights came up, but when I hit the "play button", nothing happened. After watching many videos, I saw one that simply said to reset the control board by unplugging and letting it sit for 5 minutes. It reset the board and is working fine.

Can’t f***in believe it was that easy. I thought I was going to have to go to a hardware store on a worknight, and play appliance technician (which I’m not qualified for.) Thank you so much, most helpful 20 secon

Thanks so much for the trick, worked like a charm! This has only happened for me this one time so I am going to continue with the little trick for a little while longer (no blue spark for me either so hopefully that means its not as bad).

it appears to be an grounding issue with the old circuit board, while you plug it sharks and thats why it keeps the washer off because it goes to safe mode.

was about to try this, then mine decided to turn on on it's own. Random. Have had zero issues with this machine in 10 years up till now.

Thanks for the help. It didn't fix it per se but it had me check and realize the power cord came out of the outlet

Thanks for the info, this is really helpful. The only problem is that the repair clinic website doesn't carry the part anymore and I cannot find it anywhere on-line. Do you have another resource you may have to fix the circuit board? I appreciate your help in advance.

My LG lt7300 does similar, the real fix was a connector bridge between the power button assembly and the main board getting compressed. this connector is right in the area you press the button. So no duh its going to get compressed. a repair person would have charged 600$ and replaced the main board. fixed with 45 minutes of troubleshooting and a couple of touches with a soldering iron. LG has lost all my respect. basic design flaws. This was "Fixed" previously under warranty for exactly the same symptoms with a main board and front plate swap. I would never expect a non-technician to resolve this simple problem. Boards should last decades not years or less.
