In this video we look at glutathione and why we have started taking it in a liposomal form. Glutathione is a key anti oxidant and its levels decrease with age. We are hoping to supplement with it to increase our levels.

Thanks for sharing. Like you I will be starting the Liposomal NMN and Apigenin from Alive by science. It seems by looking on their web site they are migrating a lot of their supplements to liposomal pill form and it has taken them a while to get up to speed in production and shipping. I should have my first Order received here in Florida in two weeks . I look forward to watching you check your NAD levels and keep my fingers crossed you see a bump up.

@eaappell

Glutathione is another key to healthy aging. There's evidence that merely increasing NAD will also increase glutathione. Therefore, one may be able to argue that NMN or NR are not just NAD precursors but also glutathione elevating precursors, too. This needs more research.
@ModernHealthspan
@ModernHealthspan 2 года назад
Hi Eric, thanks for sharing. We have discussed this with some of our guests, how everything is connected and improving one aspect of aging (boosting NAD, or reducing senescent cells) also improves other areas. It would indeed be good to see if NMN or NR also improved glutathione, and vice versa.

Super cool! Rooting for your success with this new supplement. What always scares me about this: NAC & Lots of antioxidants have been found harmful in some contexts. In particular, if you have cancer cells somewhere, we worry that antioxidants feed cancer and make them grow faster. There are multiple publications on this. Not sure if it's a practical worry or not, but it stops me from exploring, say, NAC.

I would like to see a study comparing Glutathion (preferably liposomal) versus N-acetylcysteine (maybe + Glycine). I would intuitively guess that the body is very good in syntheisizing small peptides like Gluthatione, if you give him the the right elements (NAC!) to do so. IMO the restrictions on NAC show that the big pharma rules Amerika.

It depends on genetics, mainly on GST, Glutathione S Transferase , but the most people have deficiencies in micronutrients to burn calories/energy metabolism, (everything requires energy) and the essential nutrients involved in the reduction of oxidative stress. Melatonin helps, to elevate GSH levels.

Hi Richard, I propose that you monitor your sleep. I also used liposomal GSH, when I took it at night it decreased my REM and Deep sleep. So watch out😉. Beside that I had good results e.g more engery. I stopped it because I am afraid of long term use. I am 38, so may I start later again.

Richard I have ordred a batch of Liposomal Glutathione from ABS and as normal they are backed up with orders but it should SHIP out mid December. Just saw a RU-vid video from another life extension youtuber with a warning that liposomal Delivery of Glutathione may raise the level of Glutathione to toxic levels in the brain (He has no studies to show this but thinks that this may be the case since the brain does not show a decrease in Glutathione as we age) Just wanted to see if you have heard anything along these lines? Thanks

I wonder if whey protein, with it's excellent balance of BCAA's, would be sufficient to boost glutathione. The initial study mentioned was just the addition of two of the three constituents and had good effect.

Hey Richard, have you been able to find good data on absorption rates of oral Liposomal Glutathione? How does it compare to NAC?
@WwJd2tmthy1
@WwJd2tmthy1 2 года назад
Basically my understanding of these two antioxidants is that LG makes NAC work better?!? So they work in conjunction with each other. The literal science behind this explains it better. But, that’s it in a nutshell
@Rick_Sanchez_Jr.
@Rick_Sanchez_Jr. 6 месяцев назад
Even if you take liposomal glutathione, it will not get absorbed because it only gets produced at the cellular level. If you take it orally, it would be degraded in the stomach and the bile would completely neutralize it, making it completely ineffective and also because it would have to go from the bloodstream, across 2 cell membranes to get inside the cell

Based on the results of the study it's clear that glutathione restoration is not the only mechanism at play. Please read "4.13 Why does GlyNAC work? The "power of 3"" within the study. Note that there are no studies comparing GlyNAC to liposomal glutathione. The results of the GlyNAC study were exceptional, you must not assume glutathione supplementation will achieve the same results- which, based on many variables involved it will not unfortunately. "

How is mitochondria function measured ??
@ModernHealthspan
@ModernHealthspan 2 года назад
Hi Philip thanks for your great question. From the paper Mitochondrial fuel oxidation MFO was measured by calorimetry (Vmax Encore metabolic cart, CareFusion Inc., San Diego, CA) and reported as respiratory quotient, mitochondrial fatty‐acid, and glucose oxidation. And Mitochondrial fuel oxidation Compared to fasting YAs, fasting OA had a significantly higher respiratory quotient and abnormal mitochondrial fuel oxidation, with a significant 54% lower mitochondrial fatty‐acid oxidation and 51% higher MGO (Table 3) (Figure 2). GlyNAC supplementation corrected defective MFO (in mitochondrial fatty‐acid and glucose oxidation) but did not affect energy expenditure. We did not measure body composition after stopping GlyNAC, but the respiratory quotient showed an increase suggesting recurrence of mitochondrial fuel impairment after discontinuing GlyNAC. So I think that means how well they burned fuel and what type of fuel.

NAC and whey protein give me stomach aches. I do take glycine and TMG. Both of which are reported to increase Glutathione. Glycine seems to have a bunch of good attributes: (1) may interfere with methionine metabolism and assist in mimicking a methionine restricted diet (which has been shown to lead to longevity) (2) reported to increase glutathione, (3) may reduce homocysteine, (4) may improve collagen synthesis (5) may extend your life (if you're a mouse); and (6)may inhibit glycation. I have not seen too many negatives of Glycine. It may interfere with autophagy. Is anyone aware of other known potential negative effects of Glycine?
@riccardofabris1260
@riccardofabris1260 2 года назад
I'm a "fan" of glycine too. No side effects at high dosage (except for nausea etc in sensible people). Regarding tmg it seems to me a bit exaggerated if you take standard dosage of nmn, it's a common ingredient. I prefer to eat beats etc. If someone needs tmg maybe nam recycling doesn't work well. Or maybe its just the same old marketing: if you take this, you need also that and so on 😉

Glutathione production can be stimulated through NRF2. Our body knows exactly how much should produce it...but with supplementation you can over/under dose it.
@eaappell
@eaappell 2 года назад
As we age, the body stops producing glutathione for whatever reason, so supplementation is required.
@jackbuaer3828
@jackbuaer3828 2 года назад
@@eaappell I think P Peja is not arguing against raising glutathione as one ages. Rather P Peja is suggesting to raise it through by NRF2, rather than by supplementing it directly or perhaps by other methodologies. NRF2 can be overexpressed and over expression is correlated with certain cancers and may be correlated with heart damage. So it's not clear to me that our bodies "know" how much to produce.
@secretweapon7764
@secretweapon7764 2 года назад
I think the issue isn't so much that our bodies don't know how much glutathione to make, I think the issues is that as we age, there are more and more things glutathione is needed to fix. Therefore our bodies find it more and more difficult to keep up. Providing raw materials (NAC) helps, but depending on need, more may be needed.
@p_peja
@p_peja 2 года назад
@@secretweapon7764 When we get older, we have much more oxidative stress and depletion of glutathione is more pronounced. Over NRF2 pathway, we could additionally stimulate our body to produce glutathione.

Hi thanks for your comment. A couple of comments on this. We are sharing what we are doing, not trying to persuade people on a particular point of view. The paper referred to from Baylor showed positive results from raising GSH levels in healthy adults. Though they used NAC and Glycine the benefits were attributed to the GSH levels being higher. So my thinking is to use lipo GSH to achieve the same effect, though I am sure that there are other ways of raising GSH levels.
