I cannot thank you enough for putting out this video! I had to be switched off of Amlodipine a couple of years ago because it was causing my ankles to swell and I was switched to Lisinopril. Until seeing this video, I had never made the connection. Around the same time I started having tremendous and horrible stomach pain. Mornings were horrible, but I was in pain all day. It felt like I was digesting rocks. I went to a Gastro Dr. and she did all manner of tests and could only see irritation, but could not explain the reason for the onset of my pain. I was taking all kinds of stomach medicine and activated charcoal and eating a diet that consisted mostly of rice to avoid pain. She was treating me for IBS. This has gone on for about two years and I never made any connection with the Blood Pressure Medicine. I saw this video in Mid-April. I investigated and learned of intestinal angioedema, which Lisinopril can cause. I got my primary Dr. to change my BP med and he changed it to Losartan. My stomach is not all the way healed up yet, but I AM FEELING SO MUCH BETTER SINCE I GOT OFF THE LISINOPRIL! I feel like your video gave me a new lease on life. I can enjoy eating again! And though I still get some pain, it is manageable. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

@@ThinkYourHealth I am glad you put this out there. As patients, we are not told to watch for these side affects. My spouse, a friend and I all experienced exactly this, a dry cough, that continues day in and day out. Even after going of the medication the cough continues for quite some time. People need to listen to their bodies and be firm with their doctors on their conditions. I have a couple questions. 1, Is it common to also have breathing issues with Carvedilol too?. I seem to have issues with it, but I also have copd as well. Another thing I am curious about is if there is correlations to these medications and severity of covid?

@@jgunderson105 I HIGHLY recommend buying a recent Nursing Drug Reference book and a good medical dictionary. Both are a goldmine of information, especially the nursing drug reference. And, no matter what medications you take, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, read the printed information included with your meds. It will give a lot of information regarding side effects and other issues that may arise. My sister-in-law is a nurse and she gets so upset when she hears that people don't bother reading them.

I had been on lisinopril for over 10 yrs with no side effects. Then one day out of the blue I noticed a very slight numbness at my outer right lower lip, no swelling, no itch, no change in muscle tone. The numb feeling was very minimal. I went to my office for work, I'm a doc. When I arrived the feeling had not changed. However within 15 min of arriving I noticed the right side of my tongue felt heavy, slightly swollen. You can best believe THAT got my attention fast! One of my staff ran me to the nearest hospital ED. in under 20 minutes I was in full blown angioedema hearing myself go hoarse! This little adventure cost me 3 days in the ICU. I know this is a long comment, but I wanted to add to this piece, no matter how long you have been on any med, always be alert to any changes you feel especially if you think it is med related. Act fast!!!!!

Even sometimes when eating I would start choking for 'no reason'. I was using Hall's lozenges almost constantly during the daytime. My doctor apparently never heard of the cough side effect. I had most of all the above mentioned symptoms after taking this med., walking a few feet was tiring, the worst was constant dry coughing. When I called to describe my side effects my NEW doc, she said "well, that's odd... give it another week." I googled the med and it listed all my side effects, I stopped the med immediately but my dry coughing continued for another month. Unfortunately I had to keep going back to the same medical establishment due to my damn health insurance policy but lost more trust and respect in physicians.

Lisinopril was touted to me as a "wonder drug." After a couple of years on it at the lowest 5 mg level, I got the dry, scratchy cough. Then my internist decided my sugar levels meant I needed a double dose to "protect" my kidneys. So I've been taking 10 mg, my cough has turned into a big lump of phlegm that I can't get rid of, and my internist has never said anything about running new blood tests to check on kidney function since the dosage change over a year ago. At the beginning his speech was more staccato and less understandable. I was about to move on then he took a deep breath and slowed down. I’m glad I watched.

I had to get off it, all I was doing was coughing uncontrollably 24 hours a day. Damn near killed me.
